We have two coton de tulears who are 8. They've been eating the Authority weight management formula that always seems to be out of stock in Los Angeles. After doing some research, we settled on the Wellness CORE. Our dogs are not fussy eaters, and transitioned to the new food easily. They eat twice a day for a total of 3/4 cups of food. In the morning, we keep the kibble dry. In the evening, we add a dry supplement and water. I was told it would help with their digestion as they age, plus it makes sure they are hydrated. Both weigh about 2 pounds more than they used to, but are still at a healthy weight (16 & 20 lbs) and remain active.

This is the go-to dry food for my 2 12-year-old English Goldens. Both have the breed-anticipated hip difficulties, each with a previous surgery. I find this product to have the highest level of glucosamine and chondroitin on the shelf. I do wish it provided more of something more to moisturize their coats since, as they get older, they tend toward dryness -- that's why the 4 out of 5 stars. I do notice also that the senior formula keeps their weights where it should be. What actually prompted me to switch to a senior formula is when their previous adult food seemed to be causing them to retain weight. Overall, I find this product to be a really solid base for a senior dog, one which can then be expanded with more personalized supplements.

I purchased a bag of your Wellness Core Senior dog food today. I noticed that the guaranteed analysis on the bag and what is listed on your website are off a lot on some of the ingredients. The fiber levels are different and the Phosphorus and Calcium levels are also different. The consumers spend a lot of money on quality dog food expecting to get what we pay for. Very very disappointed in Wellness.

Rated Very Highly
30 April 2023

My senior dog has been eating this for years. He's still running fast and jumping high. The main reason I first bought this is because it has taurine, what a very experienced vet told me dogs need for heart health that's not normally in grain-free foods. He has a mostly black coat, and it shines in the sun like to blind you. I attribute this to the excellent food he eats. On dogfoodadvisor (not affiliated with the pet food industry–a group of highly trusted researchers and vets), this product is rated as one of the best senior foods on the market. It gets five stars, which is rare on their site.

Sitka is a happy boy
20 November 2022

My American Eskimo, Sitka, has been on Weelness Brand food since we rescued him 4 years ago. We changed him over to Senior food, as he turned nine-ish, and has been having some difficulty getting up off his bed, and had a bit of a limp while walking. We slowly switched from his adult food, to this senior food, and he’s running around like he was the four year old that we rescued. He likes it with water and gobbles it up. He’s says thank you!

Soft shiny fur!
15 June 2021

It was time to switch our two pups to senior food so we found Wellness CORE. Previously we have given our pups a mid-grade grain free brand. Since we were converting and they are getting older we decided to invest in something healthier. I like that Wellness CORE senior uses salmon oil rather than canola oil as it has been such a game changer for our dogs, their coats have completely transformed. I always thought my Catahoula was supposed to have bristle hair but after switching and being on CORE for 4 months his coat is soft, fluffy and shiny. I wish I had given him better food the first 10 years.Given the price point of $67 I feel it would be challenging to sustain through our dogs whole life bc we have 2 big pups we go through a bag every 2 weeks. Our dogs love it and we love their super soft fluffy coat !

Stay away
9 July 2023

Do not buy this food- for cats or dogs. We had my two senior dogs on this food for a long time at least over a year. Well my oldest this past winter was having issues w walking due to arthritis. Vet did a full blood work panel and said his numbers for his kidneys and other organs were off the chart. Very high phosphorus as well. We did change his food after this visit. Did his number 6 months later and omg all his numbers are cut in half. What happened was my elderly dogs body could not metabolize the high amounts of stuff in this dog food. I’m warning you guys after what we found out yesterday.

Too hard for small breed seniors
2 January 2023

I switched to this from another premium small breed senior formula when my little girl decided she no longer liked it. My last baby was on Wellness Low Fat and enjoyed it, so I thought I'd try this senior formula for my diva. She seems to love the taste of this, but she's having a terrible time chewing it, even when mixing it with a bit of canned food. So we toss most of her dish because she gives up. Back to looking for senior food that's much smaller. Please remember that our small and toy breeds can be seniors, too, and would appreciate smaller kibble they can chew as they age.

Wellness Core Grain Free Senior
29 August 2022

My two dogs used Wellness Core for the last 11 years with no issues. We converted to the Senior version during the appropriate time until they refused to eat the kibbles even when they were hungry when we opened a new bag. Finally, we gave then new dog food from another brand. They ate it up. Upon notification to the manufacturer, they were not concerned that they may have bad batch. I kept a sample of the kibbles with the batch number just in case. After 11 years of buying a bag per two weeks, one would have thought there would be more concern, but maybe no one else has had this issue.

Wellness Core Grain Free Senior dog food
5 December 2021

I caretake an older dog that is prone to having diarrhea. I have tried MANY different dog foods looking for one his gut can get along with and Wellness Core Grain Free Senior seems to be the best. Most of the time his poops are firm and well-shaped without being dry and hard. In my mind normal pooping means he feels better and that's what matters. We wont be changing foods unless Wellness changes the recipe. Thank you Wellness for making such great dog food.
