If you have a laptop, you probably want single sided memory and not double sided memory; be sure to lookup your laptop's requirements. Not all memory is created equal and some reputable providers offer 2TB but memory is double sided and may not fit in your laptop. SN 850x 2TB and lower is single sided; 4TB is double sided. 2tb x 2 installed in Dell Precision 7560 for ease of separation of Windows 10 and Ubuntu dual boot

It achieved its advertised speeds and it was going absolutely fine for 1 month until today when I checked the WD software dashboard and it indicated the drive had a critical health fault - fault 7 which means the NVM subsystem was degraded. Even though the drive was working absolutely fine and I even did another speed test and it was hitting its max speeds, I'm not sure what caused this error. Lo and behold, after I turned my PC on a couple of hours later it booted into Windows and BSOD after a couple of seconds. Then on reboot my motherboard would not identify the SSD as a boot option. Works great once its set up correctly in the bios. Installed alongside the oem wd_black m.2 and used the included acronis subscription to move my OS over to the sn850x. I had to reset the cmos to get it to boot, and had to reformat the original drove to stop windows from reverting my boot order. I was initially disappointed in my benchmark scores before realizing that the pci lanes are intertwined in a way that both drives are affected. Basically, it made my original drive appear much faster than normal and the sn850x slower than advertised in testing. In real-world use, its fast and stable though. The dashboard app is also nice to have as well. Mine is mounted behind the GPU with no heatsink and never reaches above 60° at full load.

Noticeable speedup compared to PCIe 3.0 QLC
9 February 2023

I upgraded to the 2 TB SN850X from a same-sized PCIe 3.0 SSD from another vendor that used QLC flash. I thought that any modern SSD is fast enough by any reasonable standard, but I actually noticed a big difference launching programs, installing games, and transferring files to/from my NAS. My old drive would get bogged down and show high latency in Task Manager, while this model blows through everything. The heatsink is nice since I’ve had issues getting 3rd party heatsinks to attach securely and stay attached, their elastics would melt over time with heat. That said, I had to remove the motherboard’s included heatsink and do some mechanical finagling.

Perfect match for PS5 4TB was the right choice.
17 December 2022

I ordered the 4TB WD BLACK SN850X specifically to be installed in a PS5 for expanding the internal storage. I was initially concerned that I may have made a mistake by going the 4TB route because it is dual sided. However now that it is in and I am experiencing the advantage of that extra space I am so glad I went this route. I paired it with the Sabrent M.2 NVMe Heatsink (SB-PSHS) for the PS5 ConsoleEverything was super easy to install, the heat sink has been excellent for cooling. I have no complaints whatsoever. Excellent product. Most impressive of all was how incredibly fast I was able to transfer many games from the internal over to the new drive. Very impressive! It stayed cool and played flawlessly nearing that 100% completion now over 40hours of high def gaming 60fps and running beautifully.

PlayStation 5 compatible . WD SN850x
17 December 2022

Item was listed near $500 with a special holiday price at $250 and it being at 2TB. Fully compatible with the PlayStation 5 and highly competitive with all other brands in speed ,reliability and power . The storage capacity is truly unbeatable at the price from a very reputable name brand. The PlayStation 5 demands performance and additional storage space and lots of it . The answer is this item, the WD Black sn850x made to handle all the demands of the PS5. Note : just make sure to use this item since it has a built-in heat sink on top . Heat sink along with the SSD is the only preferred and recommended way to keep heating operating temperatures down on the console .

You can never go wrong with WD. Their products are top notch. When they say 5 million hours, that's just what is means. I still am running a hard drive I bought in 2005 in my PC. It may be approaching near end of life, but as long as it keeps running, I'll continue to use it. My recent purchase (WD Black 2TB SDD I now use as a storage backup. Very simple to install and get it up a running. I am confident it will give me exceptional service just like my current WD 300GB 10K VelociRaptor hard drive. I have absolutely no problem recommending WD products to friends, family, co-workers, or anyone else.

If you are coming from a Gen3 NVME, this is ABSOLUTELY worth the upgrade. I wanted to start with that because it's what held me up for so long -- Gen3 is FAST, and I just spent the money a year or two back... Gen4 can't be THAT much faster. Except it really, actually, is. Nice boost overall in snappiness with Windows 11, didn't have much lag before but now there is definitely none. Load times for games is noticeably faster, maybe 20-30% perceptually. The other thing that I worried about was copying my existing drive over seamlessly. I used MiniTool Partition Wizard (I have a paid version) and was able to copy my Windows 11 drive to the new drive using a NVME USB-C adapter from Amazon. Total time was about an hour to copy 500Gb. This is the latest version of the SN850 series. The SN850X has a faster read/write/iops than the regular SN850. Simple install, but no screws with the kit. WD app is very informative and is also used to control the small rgb lighting. The rgb is tiny and does not get very bright. The heatsink is thick with air channels. I like the thermal pads are placement. Works at advertised speeds and is lightning quick. It looks nice with an exposed chassis. This is one of the fastest nvme storage drives on the market.
