After using a pair of these for one volume and a pair of Ironwolf for another I assessed that 10c+ increase in chassis heat was the sole benefit to the Ironwolf. No difference in performance, no difference in IOPs, no difference in reliability. Yes, WD met the Ironwolf with WD """"""""Red"""""""" and I see they lack a ton of cache relative to these cost more and really are cost-reduced WD Blue (with a higher consumer pricetag). So, really; Blue is realistic for at least the 12 users of the NASs I have running on WD Blue. Including running VMs locally as well as from the drive. And it is also the location for all installed apps for 6 of the users. Stop wasting money on Red or Ironwolf. Just because they add NAS to the name does not mean more than what their marketing ... I bought the Blue 4TB HDD here (Serial Number: WX52D320YAK1). It arrived DEAD. I can't start it. To replace it I'd have to pay a half price of it. Alexander S and other support team members doesn't listen to me. I'm very very unpleased with WD service. Terrible service!I'll say to all my friends that WD produce crap and doesn't want to replace it!I SUGGEST YOU TO THINK TWICE TO BUY WD HDD!

Well after putting my order in I received my hard drive within just 2 to 3 days. Luckily for me I live in Southern California and it only had to come about a half an hour away. But on that note once I received it popped it into my all-in-one HP computer put the new operating system in now it works flawlessly. It's been a couple of weeks now and I've had no issues. I love this computer it was only a couple years old so was worth keeping. So if you're thinking about purchasing a hard drive go ahead you should have no problems. Also the hard drive when it arrived came packaged very well to the point where I could see it wasn't going to be damaged in shipping. Hopefully this review helps somebody out there.

I have had Western Digital hard drives for a long time and these are my go to for a large and affordable file storage drive. These are also great for barebones RAID 1 or 10 solutions for an affordable price point but I do not recommend these for 24/7 use in a NAS. The one thing I hope to see with Western Digital consumer hard drives in the future is the adoption of the NVMe 2.0 specification which helps to decrease the inefficiencies between different types of storage devices. Other than that, these hard drives are great for the price point.
Opened box, put in enclosure, used Disk Utility to initialize and mount disk and partitioned into two using MacOS 10.14 (Mojave). Successfully loaded about 1.2GB onto each partition. No problems with operation. (4 Stars - - I'd rate Jesus the same, as He only walked on water -He needed to walk above the water to get 5 stars!)
Only some capacities of the blue line are CMR drives. Everything else are SMR. Very confusing and misleading. I read CMR for a lower capacity blue drive and thought they are all CMRs, but that’s not the case. Also can’t cancel the order mere minutes after placing the order but still have to wait for days until they ship out the drives.
Specifically I'm writing about the 8TB model. Look at the specs, a "5640 RPM" speed and 128MB cache. It's not a speed demon, meant to put stuff on it you look at sometimes. I have 8 of them in a Mediasconic box, each as separate drive, and they work great. I think some of the negative reviews are people putting them in a NAS thinking they got a bargain. Well, use it for what it's not intended for, get results you don't want.
5400 RPM is deathly slow, I couldn't get tech support to understand that my drive bay only accepts HDD's with the traditional 3 mounting screw holes on the sides and bottom. It was as if they never installed a hard drive before. They even asked for pictures!. At the end of the day, speaking to tech support was a total waste of time, and each time it took a week for a response. I wish I could give 0 stars.
WD Blue 2TB (WD20EZBX) is a fast drive.7200RPM, 256MB cache, you can easily get 200+ MBps read speeds. Fast enough to be a game drive (not as fast as an ssd but your only waiting 15 to 20 seconds at most for a game to load)It is a SMR drive however, so writing does suffer a bit there. Although if your focus on read applications (like gaming), this is a totally usable drive. As i told a family member this is a undercover WD Black HDD.
HP All in one never seemed up to speed and signing on just keep getting slower. Finally old hard drive gave in and produced a blue screen warning about the drive. I had previously removed my files that I wanted to keep and installed the drive. Couldn’t have been easier. Literally 1screw. Reloaded Windows 10 pro and it is new running perfectly again. Very good price on the new drive( just built in 10/22). Thanks WD this saved a lot!
