Westinghouse Portable Induction Cooktop

Portable induction cooking Induction cooktops are noted for their ability to heat up to your desired temperature almost instantly, and now you can take this technology outside your home. Induction cooking is energyefficient, as your heat is generated from an electromagnetic field. With your cookware directly responsible for heating, the heat is reaching your food rather than going around it. Wide temperature range Whether you re making a pasta sauce or you re boiling water for the pastra itself, this cooktop will help you achieve optimum results with its wide temperature range. The temperature can be set between 60 and 240 degrees Celsius, with a wattage ranging from 200 to 2000. 3hour timer With a timer ranging from one minute to three hours, you can manage your time more efficiently, no matter where you re cooking. For peace of mind, the cooktop switches off automatically once the cooking time has elapsed. Child lock The unit s child lock function will prevent children from turning on the power and having an accident. That s one less thing to worry about on your camping trip.

Best purchase to learn about induction

I absolutely love this portable cooktop. I am planning a new kitchen and thought, about induction but having never used it before, been procrastinating. I purchased this to gain confidence and check which pots and pans I already have will work well with it. It has been great for cooking pasta and rice. Water boils so quickly and the timer just turn the cooker off when times up. No overcooking which is something I am usually guilt of. Bacon and eggs were great. Temperature setting is quite responsive to changes. I have no hesitation now in getting induction in my new kitchen.

We bought this as a temporary measure while we wait for a new cooker. It seems to concentrate heat right in the centre rather than evenly across the plate. It also seems to not maintain the temperature and then suddenly heats up. It has been working for a few weeks now, so reliable in that way, but if this is your only hotplate, it might be a struggle longterm. Bing Lee service excellent as always.

I’ve tested three different brands of this product. Of the other two; both had noisy fans, this one has a two stage fan, with the faster speed only used at the higher power settings, and even then it was quieter than the other two. Both of the other two had temperature controls that didn’t work properly – setting them to 60°C resulted in boiling water (water boils at 100°C)! One of them had a menu system that was a waste-of-time, and the other one was very thick. Please be aware that you need induction compatible cookware to use on one of these. You can check cookware by seeing if a magnet is strongly attracted to the bottom of a pan.

Great for frying
4 August 2022

We have an older freestanding electric oven, it works fine to boil and bake but was not powerful enough to fry things well so we got this induction plate to use. It’s great. Very hot very fast and nice and light to carry. It makes a noise as it heats up but it’s not very loud. Great option if you don’t wanna pay for a whole new oven and just need something for fast frying heat.

Simple design, easy to use

I believe that cooking device has only two settings - power and time, and that's how this cooktop is designed. There are no fancy settings like boil, reheat, stew - instead you have power (from 2000 Watts down to 200 Watts), a temperature control which the manual says is not very accurate, and which I don't use, and a timer, which can be set in one minute increments all the way from one minute to three hours (holding the button down fast forwards the time; then individual presses lets you adjust it to the exact minute you want). It heats up almost instantly, and if you change the power, the heat increases or decreases almost instantly, just like a gas cooker. It has many fail-safe devices built in, so is very safe to use. But you do need induction compatable cookware (iron or steel bottomed). Aluminium or copper don't work. It's replaced my gas stove, which is supposed to be good for the environment.I'm not an adventurous cook, and the single hotplate is enough for me (along with a microwave and an airfryer). However, multi induction cooktops are available if you need one.I would highly recommend this cooktop as having the best control interface of any that I've seen. It's a joy to use.

Westinghouse Portable Induction Cooktop

Great little portable unit. We take it away in our caravan. We use to use a Coleman single gas burner outside. This unit is far quicker, temperature control is great and no flame to blow out in the wind. Ordered one afternoon and had unit delivered next morning. Great price and service as always with Appliances Online.

I purchased this cooktop as a Christmas Present for friends who have a caravan. I purchased one of these about 3 years ago to use when we travel in our motorhome. It is excellent to use, especially outdoors when cooking steaks, curries and so forth as the odours do not linger in the motorhome. Would highly recommend this item or the double cooktop if needed to any travellers. It is also handy to have at home for an extra cooktop when entertaining, and for bar-b-ques etc. Well worth the money.

This is my 2nd cooker, other cooker is another brand. I recently brought this induction cooker and love it. You are able to adjust the temp down to 200 and goes in 200 increments. Great for turning things down to low. 500 on my other cooker is too high for streaming. Very quiet fan also. Would highly recommend this product.

Wish we'd discovered these earlier.
11 July 2022

Have used this for a couple of weeks, alongside gas cooktop (still often used for frying), and use it every day. We bought the single hotplate version, primarily for space reasons but also because of higher maximum power to the hotplate (1800W). It turns out to have more power than we need. Has worked just fine. The unit sounds maybe a little like an electric jug starting quietly when the power cycles on - and as others have noted, low average power is achieved by only having power on fairly high part-time. We haven't found this to be a problem. It would be nice to have another low-power setting. So much cheaper than replacing gas stovetop; limited of course by plug-in power limits and bench space.

were we just unlucky with a bad batch?
1 August 2022

Very excited to buy this after loving induction cook-top in my previous house (now in rental with gas) and seeing CHOICE gave this brand a very good review. After only 2 or 3 uses, the cooktop made a 'popping' noise and shut down, never to start again. Appliances Online were very good and immediately exchanged it for another (same brand and model). Again, after only a few uses, this one also failed in exactly the same way. Is there a bad batch out there? Very disappointed.
