A disapointment!

I thought that I had got a bargain with this Razor. To be honest, it was a reduced item in Boots Sale. I have had Philips triple-blade razors before, but the cost of replacing them, sadly as expensive as a new one! (Why do we have to be a throw away society?)At first I thought it was brilliant, but as time went by, the charge doesn't last as long as the older models. The cutting heads are rather clunky and do not shave as smoothly regarding the 'floating heads'. You find the corners hitting your face often!Like a lot of technology, it seems to be one step forward, two steps back. My advice is, pay the exra for replacement blades in your existing 'quality' older razor!

Best Shave by Electric Shaver Ever!
11 September 2024

This shaver is so light and quiet I was actually disappointed when I first turned it on as all my previous shavers were loud and sounded fast. I have also only ever used foil shavers and wasn't sure how I'd get on with this, but I had always struggled with foils as they took ages, they got hot and were sore using. So when I first shaved (dry) with this it was like a dream! I had five days growth, which my foil shaver would not be able to cut. But the Philips S5887 shaver dealt with it like ease. And it was so comfortable! Honestly the best shave I have ever had! It even gave a close shave right under my nose, which I struggle with using a blade unless I cut from different angles. And the pop up cutter was so easy to use too.Cleaning it was a breeze. The top pops open, run it under the tap and you're done.Next I tried the wet shave with shaving foam and it was so smooth and comfortable. And running it under the water as the shaving foam built up meant the shave was easy and again, by the end, the shaver was totally clean. The charging time is brilliant too. Took me less than an hour and so far I haven't had to recharge. I totally recommend this to anyone, especially if foils aren't working for you!!

Close shave
12 February 2024

I've not had an electric shaver for about 20 years or more due to not being satisfied with the closeness of the shave. So I've been thinking about it for a number of months but been put off by the cost of shavers these days and not sure about the improvements made over the years. So I decided to look for one and ended up deciding on this model after reading some reviews.I remember my old shavers being very noisy in operation and irritating my skin due to having to go over the same area to try getting a closer shave. So my new shaver arrived and I charged it up as recommended. When I first went to use it I was surprised as to how quiet it was and it didn't give me much confidence in getting a good shave. Does the job admirably

Have used Philips shavers for a long time and the series 5000 has been my choice for the last 3 shavers I've owned and used. I even got my late Father-in-law one as he was getting fed up wet shaving and had started cutting himself. They are very efficient shavers and I know now that you won't get the close shave you can achieve with a wet blade it always leaves me feeling clean and bristle free without scraping my face to bits.My current version of the series 5000 is smooth plastic whereas I preferred the previous silicone/rubberised grip as, getting older my grip and feeling in my fingers is reduced so if I was asked I'd ask them to use the new style body but with the non slip grip. Great Shaver
8 February 2024

Bought this shaver to replace an 5 year old previous model that's battery was beginning to show its age. First thing I noted was that the on/off switch position had been redesigned that meant no more accidental switching off when shaving. The inbuilt trimmer saves the hassle of taking the head off and replacing it with a trimmer - bonus. The other thing I noted was the motor speed and noise were slower and quieter but this reduction in speed certainly does not affect the shave quality. Cleaning is easy and the charge seems to be good for around 3 weeks for my shaving routine which again after a weekly recharge is good. I also had a bonus with a nose and ear hair shaver which is also efficient.

[Rewarded Review] Great razor
17 January 2024

I have had a Norelco shaver basically my whole life. Last year I wanted a new razor and bought a knockoff triple header. It was the worst decision I've ever made. It crapped out in less than a year and never shaved as good as any of the norelco's I ever had. I don't think any of the norelco's have ever broken down on me, but after 10+ years I would just want a newer model. The quality of the 5000 I just purchased is as I expected, EXCELLENT. If anyone out there is thinking of buying a no name brand because you think like I did that a razor is a razor, don't. I made that mistake and learned my lesson. Norelco, please forgive me for briefly jumping ship, it will not happen again.Bob K

[Rewarded Review] Is compatible with the cleaning pod...
18 February 2024

After purchasing this Philips Norelco 5400 (s5880/81)series shaver (which I love), I found out that it is compatible with the cleaning pod (sold separately). I picked up the cleaning pod as soon as I found this out. I appreciate the ease of daily cleaning that the pod offers. In addition I picked up the travel case. I also love the fact that it is a wet/dry shaver. I use Edge shaving gel, which allows the shavers heads to glide over my skin, and gives me a good reasonably close shave. The battery lasts a long time, and I have only had to charge it twice since I purchased it 2 months ago. I am a fan and will definitely continue to use, and would definitely buy again :)

[Rewarded Review] Upgrade from older Model 5000 Series
26 August 2024

Razor works very well. Excellent, close shave. Charge was easy, lasts several days. Have had an older Model 5000 series which I liked. It did well, though I didn't like the separate trimmer. This Model has a trimmer built into it. Smaller trimmer than prior model but it nice to not deal with a removable trimmer. The only inconvenience is the use of a USB only charging. I have a home USB charging station which helps. If traveling, it is not the best solution. Would have been nice to have a charging plug to use in the bathroom, with the original purchase. Just found out about a plug available directly from Philips, as a free warranty item. Ordered this weekend. Very pleased with this shaver. 3rd one I've bought in the past 8 - 10 years.
