While this particular offshoot may not please the most die-hard WT aficionados, it is nevertheless a worthwhile addition of any alcohol enthusiast's collection of scrumptious libations.

Simple to love for a fair price... You get what you paid for, and the purchase is worthwhile. Smooth and unburdened warmth that is pleasing and welcome... thing eases up as it goes down... and a new fave of mine! / altered: God bless Texas, and thanks to Kentucky. They say "The aroma is a balanced blend of vanilla and spices. Flavors of caramel, pear, and traces of citrus round out the palate, while the mild, smokey finish is buttery smooth—with notes of light pepper and toasted oak."

I really can't say enough about this bourbon. I'm far from an expert on good bourbon, but I know when it's good and bad. I've had fair but cheap (Evan Williams), good (Elijah Craig), pretty good, but so smooth it didn't seem like bourbon (Four Roses)and decent but not great (Old Forrester). Longbranch is full-bodied and smooth, but you know you're drinking bourbon. Unlike Evan Williams or Four Roses, it has a nice mouth feel and you know you're drinking bourbon. It also has a burn at the end, but unlike Old Forrester, it isn't harsh and almost like drinking ethanol. It has a really good balance. It's spicy and sweet but really very well balanced overall. While the price point is about $40, it's worth it to splurge for a good bourbon. I'm sure there are better ... MoreI really can't say enough about this bourbon. I'm sure there are better bourbons out there, and Evan Williams at 1/4 of the price is okay, but sometimes you want something that makes you feel like you're drinking a high-end bourbon at a reasonable price. This is it. I haven't had Pappy, but I've had Weller. It was good, but I wasn't super impressed. I'm very impressed with this regardless of the celebrity attached to it. Yes, McConaughey is the face of it, and if he brings you to it, great. But I didn't rate this based on that. I rated it based on taste. They did a great job and it's worth a try. You might be pleasantly surprised.

I made the commitment to purchase Matthew McConaughey Wild Turkey - Long Branch whiskey. Although I prefer rye, I thought this Bourbon was excellent. The best way to enjoy this bourbon is neat. Has a smokey, mesquite flavor to it because McConaughey is from Texas. If you want to try something different and enjoy a pleasant bourbon, I definitely recommend it.
My second bottle was opened yesterday night, and the first tastings were accurate. First of all, ever since my undergraduate days, I've enjoyed Wild Turkey. However, the addition of oak and Texas mesquite filtration raises this to many notches in my opinion. I'll be buying this wonderful bottle from Total Wine a lot more times in the upcoming months, perhaps because it pairs well with the preferred BBQ wood smoke I frequently employ. Five points achieved!
I finally made a decent whiskey sour with it. Before that I was considering this 3 out 5 stars. It has good flavor, but it's almost like watered down bourbon. Woodford reserve is too sweet in my opinion. This is too thin in my opinion. It's got some enjoyable toasty notes. It's just on the light side. Compared to the Maker's mark barrel select I've been drinking at 108 proof, it's noticeably less flavorful. Still, you can sip it and enjoy it, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. I got it for less than 30 dollars and I still think that's a high price to pay for it.
Simply amazing. However, I will start with Cons: aroma/nose is not impressive; if you are looking for a classical Wild Turkey "bourbon kick" - it is not there. Pros: it is absolutely delicious - sweet like nothing else, almost too sweet. Charcoal (mesquite?) is, theoretically, smoothing the taste. It is not always true, but very true in this case. Smoothest bourbon I ever tasted. I cannot think of a better bourbon if you want to introduce your non-bourbon friend (or any lady :-)) to the world of bourbon. I will always have a bottle from now on.
Even though this is the more expensive option, it is still very much worth it. I've tried every wild turkey and russells reserve offering, and this one is still my favorite. bourbon-like in flavor but very smooth and sweet when consumed. The initial shot has a delicate, honey-like scent over ice. You may taste the aroma of honey moss smoke after the second and third shots. It is more of a very smooth, sweet bourbon with very little smoke or spice. The cost is definitely justified! Longbranch is the best bourbon, and 101 and Longbranch are the best wild turkeys. I ultimately broke down and got it, much to my surprise, even though I believed it was a gimmick!
Although it's not a "alright alright alright" bourbon, this drink is unquestionably "alright alright." Nice woodsy flavor, albeit not quite as strong as WR Double Oaked. Excellent whisky for drinking and for use in old fashioneds and other mixed beverages. The value, in my opinion, is not quite there. There are a couple better and less expensive bourbons that I can identify.
I recently purchased this on sale and was pleasantly impressed by the depth of taste! As you take the first taste, you don't notice the 43% abv. The bourbon has been balanced and infused with deep, rich caramelized overtones thanks to the action of the oak and mesquite barrels. Excellent when poured over a big ice cube. The alcohol starts to work when you go for a second glass because it's so good!
