I’ve been using Cotman watercolors for about 30 years. Although they are rated as student grade vs professional grade they are very good paints. I find them just as vibrant as the pro brands and they hold up very well. My Cotman paintings from the early 90s are still bright and I have noticed no fading. In my opinion the Cotman brand watercolor paints are a very good value.

Love this watercolor set. Great choice of colors included. Colors are easy to work with and produce beautiful results. The size of the case is perfect for traveling and takes up less space at home. There is plenty of room on the inside of the lid and bottom extension for color mixing and an extension tray on the side for water. When checking prices, Blick had the lowest. I highly recommend this product. Thank you for providing quality products at a great price.

This was my first step into tube watercolor paints and I am loving the results. I've heard some people say they have trouble rewetting cotman watercolors but I haven't had any issues so far. I appreciate that even though many are mixed-pigment hues, there are plenty of single lightfast pigment paints in the collection. Are all the colors necessary for a professional? No, but the variety is so much fun.#sweepstakes
The color selection is great and so is the quality. However, each little half-pan was individually wrapped which was tedious to unwrap and install in the little trays. After doing that, my cat knocked the whole thing over and all the pans and paints went flying. Took me hours to collect them and put it all back together. (That last part has nothing to do with the quality of the product)
I had never used WN paints before. I bought about 20 tubes of differing colors, admittedly more than I absolutely need. But I wanted to test a variety of hues. I am very pleased with these. Presumably the pro line is better, but I'm more than happy with the Cotman line. Beautiful colors. Rich, vibrant. I'm sold! Want to give Blick cudos for their careful packing and good service.
I'm new to painting and these watercolor paints have been a pleasure to learn with. They're very pigmented but also easy to lighten up with more water when needed. The paints mix well and layer well too. I've also found them to be pretty forgiving with mistakes if you catch them quickly. The travel tin feels durable and the built in palette is super convenient as a student that paints both on campus and at home. The tin also has room for 12 more pans so you can store refill colors or extra colors that you like. I'd definitely recommend for anyone painting on the go and/or trying watercolor for the first time!

I recently purchased the Cotman yellow watercolor paint and found it much thinner in quality of color than the straight Windsor and Newton higher quality yellow I had previously bought. I teach painting classes and buy supplies regularly and refer my students to buy paints and supplies from Michael's store. It pays to spend more on quality when you can afford it. Most times I can't afford to spend on the professional brands but when I do I really notice the difference. WN Cotman are trusted quality student grade watercolor paints. Pigment, binder, and lightfast information is on each tube, complete information is also on their website. Available in sets or open stock.This Chinese White (PW5) is a middle ground in transparency/opaqueness. Ones made from PW4 (zinc) are more transparent. If you want something more opaque, look for a titanium white (PW6). This is still a nice budget mixing white for pastels when you want to introduce some limited opacity.
I am a watercolorist and use Winsor and Newman paints. I find they mix well, a reliable quality and consistent in their pigments. I purchased 4 travel sets within the past month. I generally buy replacement paints as I need them, but as an artist knows, this can be expensive. The travel sets were around $23 apiece! That's 14 half pans . After realizing the savings, I decided to purchase travel sets for my two young grandsons. Birthdays are coming soon and I know they will be thrilled to receive these sets!
