Winsor & Newton Drawing Ink 14ml Apple Green

Good, old-fashioned drawing ink fin iconic little bottles. Fast-drying, water resistant and transparent - they can be used with a brush, dip pen or airbrush. Winsor & Newton has created 26 colours, including Liquid Indian Ink - a water-based solution of traditional Chinese stick ink. All the colours are intermixable and you can overlay different colours for new effects and shades. Winsor & Newton Inks have been used by illustrators since their introduction in the 1890's, where the main requirement is brilliance of colour. Today they are formulated from a series of soluble dyes in a superior shellac solution. These inks can be applied with brush, dip pen or airbrush and are widely used by designers, calligraphers and artists as well as illustrators.

This is the best black ink in my opinion. It mixes with watercolor so beautifully. It granulates and creates just the most amazing textures. LOVE THIS!

This W&N black has been at my side for three decades and is a dependable mainstay of my work.Probably, the key fact to note here is 'Waterproof'. It is certainly a great ink for many uses that don't require that quality but is fabulous for when you do. There are many uses for which being waterproof is great but the two most obvious are when you want to draw in ink and then paint over in watercolour or even acrylic and the second is when you want to apply further ink, either neat or thinned with water. The ink is rich and deep black with a very slight sheen towards blue. This is probably most noticeable if applied very thickly and pools before setting dry.You can add increasing amounts of water (W&N recommend distilled water but I use tap) to get lovely grey ... MoreThis W&N black has been at my side for three decades and is a dependable mainstay of my work.Probably, the key fact to note here is 'Waterproof'. Also, DO NOT use in any type of fountain pen style art pen unless you're happy to chuck it after one use. This is great ink and you can use it in pens, brushes, pads, fingers, splatters from toothbrushes, drips, pours and with stencils on all kinds of surfaces. Give it a try.

I've been using Windsor & Newton drawing inks for years on everything from cartoons and greeting cards to fine art drawings. I usually work in pen, ink and watercolor and these inks work well with the watercolors and sometimes result in some pretty happy accidents. I did an entire series of clowns for children's bedrooms (my grandchildren) and the colors are as sharp today as when I first made them nearly ten years ago, despite having been on display all that time. The colors are true and are light resistant, staying vibrant for years even when displayed in locations that would fade other inks. You do have to be careful and make sure brushes are really clean or the shellac will ruin them.

Liquid Indian Ink Review
2 September 2018

It's extremely difficult to find a good quality pigment-based ink that's non-waterproof. Most are dye-based, which can prove to be very fugitive over a surprising short span of time. But Winsor & Newton's Indian inks are made from lamp black, one of oldest, most durable, and lightfast pigments in the history of drawing. The Liquid Indian Ink doesn't contain shellac so you can use it in a brush pen and rework it with water somewhat after it dries. It's not the smoothest ink I've ever used, however. It feels like it wants to drag and the pigment particles somehow feel more pronounced. Higgins Eternal ink is definitely much smoother to work with, but it's also a combination of pigment and dye. It's hard to get around Winsor & Newton's use of one very trustworthy ... MoreIt's extremely difficult to find a good quality pigment-based ink that's non-waterproof. It's hard to get around Winsor & Newton's use of one very trustworthy pigment if you're looking for a stable, permanent drawing ink for fine art. On an unscientific note, it smells very badly of what can only be described as old-lady perfume. I don't what it is, but it hits you in the face as soon as you open the bottle and lingers on the paper long after the ink has dried.

Love the white ink!
13 December 2021

Throughly enjoy this product!!! Love love love it with my calligraphy products. Get good nibs so that you’ll have a smooth time writing. Also, use it frequently because after about a year the ink thickens quite a bit. I added water but after many times of that, it does get thinner. Love it otherwise!

Pricy but worth it.
18 January 2023

I'm still fairly new to drawing inks, but W&N have a fantastic product here. The ink is a rich black, dries quickly (when spread evenly), and is 100% waterproof. I've currently been using it for small personal illustrations with both a dip pen and brush and it is 100% up there with Sakura archival pen ink. It is on the expensive side but for me it is worth the cost.

Really Nice Ink

Couldn't be more impressed with the Winsor Newton black India Ink. It flows really nice and is really black. Other India ink dry mightier, this one is the real deal. I am looking forward to trying some of the other colors#sweepstakes

Very versatile to use with watercolors
27 September 2021

Nice product bright color. I got this in hopes to use with my water colors. For that shining accent needed at times to bring out colors of flowers or feathers. Or just sparkly dew drop in a garden. This is great!!! Cleans well from brushes. I do use separate water for cleaning ink from a brush than cleaning watercolors. It cleans well and doesn't drop to bottom of the water as I thought it would. I've even used a pallet and mix watercolors together. Quit interesting results.

Winsor & Newton Indian Ink 14ml - Black
10 May 2022

Very high quality Indian ink, has yet to fade at all and barely took a month to fully heal. Still have roughly 13ml left in the bottle and it was not a very small stick and poke. Really good for beginners, was my first one and while the art quality isn’t the best that’s no fault of the ink. Top tier ink. :)

Winsor & Newton Inks
25 October 2022

I'll admit, when I got into traditional inking I went through a lot of really bad inks. Then I found Winsor & Newton inks and I fell in love. The colors are incredibly pigmented and have a lovely vibrancy and application to them. I recently bought some colored ones (began with the plain India ink black) and while they don't have the same thick, lasting consistency as black, their vibrancy and gorgeous fade between light and dark more than make up for it. If you're looking for good drawing inks, this is my go to.
