A new dark fantasy Three Kingdoms masocore game from Team NINJA, the developers of Nioh. 184 AD, Later Han Dynasty China. The land is overcome by chaos and destruction. The imperial dynasty that prospered for many years is now about to collapse. Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is a dramatic, action-packed story of a nameless militia soldier fighting for survival in a dark fantasy version of the Later Han Dynasty where demons plague the Three Kingdoms. Players fight off deadly creatures and enemy soldiers using swordplay based on the Chinese martial arts, attempting to overcome the odds by awakening the true power from within. Wo Long refers to a crouching dragon, and also refers to a hero or person of greatness who is not yet known. This is the story of officers, who will later become heroes, during their ‘unknown’ period, and also the story of a protagonist’s rise from being a ‘nobody’. From the depths of darkness, a dragon soars.

I’ve Platinumed all the Souls, Borne, Elden and Nioh games but I couldn’t beet the first Wo Long boss. Why? This game (from what the first level teaches us) is that you only do damage when you successfully parry a Red attack. This lets you follow up with a good damage counter. Nothing else does much damage. So all you do is run around waiting for Red attacks. But of course, if you don’t time the parry to the perfect second you get destroyed. I hate Parry games for this reason.I’m sure there’s more battle styles once you progress, but this boss will never let that happen. Graphics and design are average. Absolute garbage. Wish I could get my money back.

Most boss fights require high skill levels just like Sekiro. Some comment may say perfect parrying a critical hit gains too much advantage. I agree. But when you have more skill points you can try fire and metal build with dual sword or Guding Dao. You can easily win a boss fight by martial art combo. And the best thing is it’s free to reset skill points which means you can try any type of build any time you want.

We had so much fun playing this. The rumours are true though ... the story, dialogue and voice acting all leave a lot to be desired, but if you can look past all that and enjoy it for the chaotic fun that it is, you're in for a good time. It has a steep learning curve, but once you get the hang of it the gameplay alone is enough to justify the purchase and is really a lot of fun, even better with a friend.
