Nice arch supports too for my rather flat feet. After a month of wearing these, my feet have stopped cramping and feel happy again. I'm a convert!

I wear these shoes all day. I have a very bad case of plantar fasciitis AND sciatica! Before I bought Hoka, I thought I was buying "good" shoes for support and comfort only to find out that after wearing them for a few weeks the pain in my right foot, right leg, right hip, buttocks and low back came back. It has been debilitating at times to the point where I could not sleep at night and I was in constant pain. I went through rounds of steroids that helped short term, stretching helped some, heat/ice helped some. Going for walks was very painful. My right ankle always swelled up when on my feet for too long and my leg looked like a club. I fell in love with my Gaviota 2 Hokas and my feet appreciated them. After a good wear, I wanted to order my second pair of Gaviotas, except that model had been changed to a new version. The new version was extremely uncomfortable and very different than its predecessor. So, I bought the Stinson ATR 6. What a big mistake and poor quality. In less than a year of use more like within 6 months the plastic frame for the back of the shoe started to bend inward and cut right thru the lining and now every time I move my foot it cuts into my heel. The support is not great as I have had more ankle problems since I have been wearing them.I stopped wearing them altogether and my ankle has been feeling a lot better. What a waste of $$$!very disappointed and now I have to shop ... MoreI fell in love with my Gaviota 2 Hokas and my feet appreciated them. I have plantar fasciitis that is currently under control, and I've started hiking again (4.5 - 5.5 miles). I wanted to have a hiking shoe with great cushioning, so I contacted Hoka Customer Service and spoke to a representative about the Kaha. She said the Kaha has a lot of cushioning, but so does the Stinson 6, so I checked that one out, and decided to buy it. I've worn the shoes on 3 hikes, and they are definitely cushy. They seem pretty sturdy, too. My only concern is that they seem a little too wide for my narrow feet. I will continue to wear them, as I haven't noticed any slippage when I'm hiking in the hills. I may order the Kaha next time to determine if the higher boot gives me a more secure feeling. I work in retail on cement 40+ hours a week and many co-workers wear Hoka. Most of them have Bondi, which I've also had and liked, but a customer told me about these and I wont go back to another style! Even though they are not considered wide, they are plenty wide enough for my feet. I usually have a problem with my right little toe for no reason at all except for a car accident that caused my SI joint to get a boo-boo if that makes sense and causes me pain all the way down to my foot. In these shoes I have no pain in that toe. My feet never hurt, but they do ache after nine hours or more of being on them pretty much. That would be any shoe. I am slowly getting my knee pain under control also. I love the colors of these ones! I think they're so cute! I have worn Stinsons since the very first one released by Hoka. I have tried many of Hokas designs but have always come back to the Stinson. I have owned more than 50 pairs. I wore them when my coworkers would make fun of my clunky clown shoes. Now all of them wear Hokas but we are hospital workers and couldn't survive without them. However, there is something wrong with the Stinson 6, it seems to be much too tight across the top of the foot. I bought 4 pairs hoping it would change. That is how sold I have always been on the Stinson. I have never had a shoe push into the top of my foot like this and unfortunately it created horrible arthritis in the top of my foot. I have now had to take injections for the pain but it can not fix it. I had to go to my closet and pull out one of my old Stinson 5s and that is what I am currently wearing. I keep waiting on a Stinson 7 but I am about to give up with no clue what I can change into wearing I have worn Stinsons so long. The cushion and the width are superb but the depth of the shoe is off some how or the arch pushes my foot up so much that it makes it fit too tight across the top. Please fix this problem! I can not work without my Hokas!
I put these on and immediately loved them. They felt plush yet responsive and grippy, durable and water resistant. But when out on the trails (casual runs on well maintained mountain trails) I found myself tripping often because the footprint is so much larger and the edges of the sole stick out much farther than my foot and more than I was used to with any other shoe. I immediately switched to a slimmer trail shoe for more technical runs because I didn't feel safe hot stepping over rocks and roots. But yesterday I found myself in these shoes and without thinking, I left the gravel path to run down a trail towards a popular waterfall. But yesterday I found myself in these shoes and without thinking, I left the gravel path to run down a trail towards a popular waterfall. The inside edge of the shoe hooked a root and stayed while my body kept going forward and I went down hard. I packed my sock with snow from the side of the trail, hobbled a mile and a half back to the car and am now in bed with a fractured foot and severely sprained ankle looking at 6-8 weeks of recovery. It was an unfortunate accident and falling is a risk on any run but without a doubt, these shoes contributed. Everyone has a different foot and running style but for me, these are too wide to be safe on the trails. I will still wear them for walking and running the neighborhood and maybe even a gravel path through the woods. I get that a wide base is necessary for stability in a tall, plush shoe, but maybe "trail running shoe" is not the safest label for these.
I have worn these on 7 trail runs of 4-5 miles each, and I don’t love them. They are my first maximalist running shoe, so that might be my issue, but I am just not feeling the plush ride I was expecting. I bought them because I injured the sole of my foot and needed a more rigid shoe that wouldn’t let any rocks hurt my foot and in this the Stinsons succeed 100%. No picking around rocks in these puppies! I also found them very stable. But I am having lots of trouble with the lacing - my first few runs they were laced way too tight, and I fixed that, but I’m still having trouble locking my heel down, and I feel more slippage than I’d like. I am also a forefoot striker and it actually feels a little difficult to do that in this shoe, and the ball of my foot actually ... MoreI have worn these on 7 trail runs of 4-5 miles each, and I don’t love them. I am also a forefoot striker and it actually feels a little difficult to do that in this shoe, and the ball of my foot actually feels a bit sore in the shoe after a 4 mile run, which doesn’t happen in other shoes. I find it hard to believe that this shoe excels in really long runs, but maybe they still need breaking in. I will keep these in rotation but they will probably become primarily hiking shoes for me, unless they start feeling better. After buying these I bought a pair of Hoka Torrents and Brooks Cascadia used and I absolutely love them. Comfortable, stable, and wearing them I feel like a gazelle compared to the plodder I am with the Stinsons.
I so wanted to love these shoes because I love my Kaha 2 mid GTX shoes and wanted the low GTX version as a backup. But I was surprised that the low version was not nearly as cushioned and comfortable as the mid version. I can't understand why. The description states that they are structured the same. I tried them for two weeks, on a variety of terrain, and my feet and legs hurt and became fatigued after more than 4 miles. I would end the day exhausted. With the mid shoe, I have lots of energy left at the end of the day. Maybe my feet need more cushioning at age 56. So, I am looking for a second shoe for a long walking trip (15 miles/day), but this is not the one. I'm not sure what Hoka shoe to choose at this point. The Mafate? The Arahi? The Stinson? The Challenger is not cushioned enough for long walks and doesn't have the best traction for trails. The Kaha 2 mid has been great, though, and I hope they will carry me through the two-week trek.
