I am a long-time stability-shoe runner with pancake-flat feet - currently only running ~ 10 mi / wk these days usually at conversational pace. My usual go-to's typically are Saucony Guide, Brooks Adrenaline, Asics Gel Kayano -- in over 20 years of running, I had never tried any New Balance shoes before. I got the chance to try a pair of NB 860v14 thanks to a giveaway through Endorphins Running .. I went for 3 runs (3-5 mi each). I was immediately blown away by the comfort of these shoes! Definitely quite comfy without being too heavy. After a few miles in, the soles did start to feel a little chunky / bulky scraping my inner ankles (particularly compared to my Asics) , but I think it's something I can get used to. Overall I am disappointed in the new 860 version:14. The way that NB shortened the eyelets for the laces gives me less flexibility to fit the front of my foot properly. In the 860v13 there T were 6 pairs of eyelets for the laces, now with the 860v14 there are only 5 pairs of eyelets. It makes a huge difference in how the shoes fit. How is a person supposed to know if the shoe will work for them if they can't wear it a few times to try it out? This is a huge issue for me since I am on a fixed income, a retired senior who just wasted $140 since they don't accept returns if you wore it a couple of times to try it out. I can't wear it and can't return it. Otherwise, the shoe still seems to be quite stable and the cushioning is an improvement.

Loving these shoes after a few runs (my second in them being a bold 12 miler)! I have long worn neutral shoes but recently tried my first stability due to a slight pronation in my step. The first I tried and loved dearly were the Hoka Arahi 6s, but I overused them and was looking for a new shoe since the 7s were almost a different shoe completely (so stiff and didn’t feel cushiony). These New Balances, however, feel so far to be my perfect replacement as they’re supportive in all of the ways my feet need and have the perfect amount of cushion - I usually prefer max cushion due to shin splints and these provide neither too much nor too little. I’m running two fall marathons and think I may use these for at least Berlin! I wanted to love this iteration of NB 860, but v 14 doesn't have the same arch support as my previous pair (v 12, I believe). My previous pair were perfect. With the new pair, my feet start hurting after 20 minutes of walking due to insufficient arch support. V14 is beautiful to look at, great color and excellent fresh foam cushioning. The right shoe fits well. The left shoe is a little off somehow. I'm disappointed because NB was my go to walking shoe. I'll now have to find another brand with arch support, that won't irritate my neuromas. I'm used to walking for at least an hour, pain free, in my previous NBs.
Really grateful I was given the opportunity to try this style. I overpronate and I’ve been dealing plantar fasciitis in one heel struggling to find shoes I like. So far this is the most comfortable stability shoe I’ve tried. Others have felt too stiff while typical neutral shoes haven’t provided enough support. The drop, width and cushioning is just right for me. It feels versatile enough for me to wear on slower or faster runs which is exactly what I want for all purpose running sneaker. I’m definitely getting another color way soon so I can alternate between pairs. I highly recommend this style to anyone who finds some popular neutral styles too soft around the heel.
The over cushioned, over slanted heels makes for a very unstable sneaker. It took me a few wears to figure out my ankle twisting and unstableness was a result of my new 860’s. I initially thought I just had tired legs from my prior excise activity, but that made no sense as I have been doing the same few activities for a while. As soon as I switched back to my old 860’s, the issues went away. I could do my pre-run stretches comfortably. The 860’s have been my go to sneakers for a while now, unfortunately I had to return this version. Sadly my little local store did not have any old model 860’s left in my size. I had to switch to Brooks Adrenaline, which I haven’t worn since I was a teenager. Please bring back the old 860’s .
I have been wearing the 860s since 2017. I have bought dozens of pairs and it was the only running shoe I ever wore. They were fantastic. I always had about 5 pairs on hand rotating through.However recently the changes made to this model have made the product worse. The amount of soft foam in the outsole in this version is unwearable. I could feel the foam compressing at the heel too much just from trying it on and wearing it in my home. That is not stability. If you wanted to add a fresh foam version of this shoe fine but offer a not fresh foam version also.Sadly no longer a 860 wearer. Bring back the older models! Stop ruining great shoes.
I write this review with full understanding that it will probably never be published, but since you don't give me any other option to communicate my issues, here it goes. The stretch gusset which attaches the tongue of the shoe to the bottom of the shoe is very tight. It hampers getting the shoe on without having it tuck down in the throat, and it makes the shoe uncomfortable over time. In addition, I am another of your customers who does not appreciate the fact that the bright white rubber line extends into the shoe's outer lines. If someone wishes to wear these shoes often and all day, it would be nice if they looked less like a honkin' big sneaker and more like a comfortable shoe. Style 847, my remaining three pairs (which I alternated wearing), is no longer being made, so when the wonderful and patient customer-service representative with whom I spoke recommended the Fresh Foam X860v14 for both comfort and stability. I ordered three pairs in neutral colors (white, light gray, and black), and I am very happy with them. I wanted to love this shoe. I've had them since they came out in June, and I've tried hard to gaslight myself into loving them. The joke is on me because I hate them, and it's too late to return them.I chose these shoes because I overpronate and after much searching, I found the v10s a few years back and loved them. Like other overpronators, this issue is partly caused by my large toe not flexing out, offering support to the rest of my foot and ankle—at least, that's how my podiatrist described it to me. Well, there's no room for my toes to move inward to do that in this shoe, so I am fighting the straight structure of the shoe with every stride. I can't take it anymore. The insides of my large toes are sore after wearing them for more than an hour.
