I tried these after wearing the Peregrine for a few years as I wanted more cushion underfoot without getting bulky. The comfort in the outsole is there for sure, but the upper is not as stable as the Peregrine. Sizing runs big - rather than going up half a size like I normally do with running shoes, I should have stayed true to my normal size as I can feel my foot slipping lengthwise. Overall, they are comfortable and a good addition to my options, but aren't as great as the Peregrine for the technical trails that need more lateral stability.

Very springy, great support and super lightweight. Immediately comfortable to wear. I can see what others mean about a little unstable at times im not sure if its the stack height or material of the sole or the narrow width of the base. The instability wasn't enough for concern. My only other note is that they are very sweaty on longer runs. In the QLD humidity, my feet were squelching in sweat - I am a very sweaty runner and it was mid morning on a 33 degree day.

This is my first pair of Sauconys. I purchased them because I love the turquoise color and I was looking for something for hiking and trail running that did not bother my foot that has a bunion on it. I have worn adidas trail runners for years, and they've been great, but their newer styles are not working for me anymore. I typically wear an 8.0 in adidas and I needed an 8.5 in Sauconys. This is my normal shoe size. I have a semi-wide foot and these fit me perfectly. The other thing I wanted in my new trail runners was a tighter fit around my ankle. These shoes do not let in sand and rocks and I love that. I will likely purchase another pair.

I love Saucony and have worn the Peregrine since version 7. I thought it would be a good idea to try a more cushioned shoe as I'm training for a 100 miler and the Peregrine may not have enough cushion as I get into the later hours of the race. Out of the box, the Xodus Ultra felt good—they're super comfortable and cushy... however, when I got on the trails, I found the fit was slippery and sloppy. My feet slide around in the midfoot no matter how tight I lace them and I don't feel very stable going over technical terrain. The Xodus Ultra runs bigger than the Peregrine in the same size, so I might try a 1/2 size down to see if it alleviates some of my issues, but as of now, I won't be able to wear these in my 100 mile. I really wanted them to work because I'm a huge fan of Saucony and this shoe has been getting amazing reviews, but I definitely feel I need a 1/2 size down to really get the best out of the shoe!
I wore this shoe for the first time on a 12 mile trail run and loved it. It was easy to move in , not clunky and wide enough which few shoes are. The next time I wore them was on a 17 mile highly technical run replete with rocks and willow roots. They weren't very stable. My foot slipped forward into the toe plate on the steep downhills and I may get a black toenail. Anyway, I bought another pair to wear on my long ish runs that aren't too rocky or sketchy. Still looking for a sturdy but responsive shoe for the rougher terrain.
I bought these to replace my Brooks cascadias which I loved from the second I put them on. They have been great for runs of ten miles or less. I did a 30k in them last week and by mile 11 the outside bottom of my right foot was killing me. I was about crippled by the time I finished. I had the same exact experience with a pair of Hoka Speedgoats. Will wear them for short runs but on the hunt for something better for long runs. I bought my normal size 8.5 and that fit was great.
I purchased these for a 100k I'm running in 5 weeks. I've been running in the Peregrines for the past few years but this will be my first race over a 60k so it was time for more padding than the Peregrines could offer. I've only ran a few times in them for training runs and the sizing is off. I wish I would have read the reviews before purchasing them. I normally wear size 8 (which is a half size larger than my normal shoe/sandal size) but these feel like clown shoes. My midfoot slides around and I'm concerned I'm going to injure myself. My 100k isn't extremely technical but has a lot of stairs. This wouldn't be a terrible shoe if it were sized right so I recommend ordering your normal size.
I had been using the Peregrines for trail running and hiking in the North East but was looking for a bit more cushion for backpacking and section hiking the Long Trail in VT. I wore these on a 20 mile stretch around Camel's Hump. My felt great! And it's a very rugged trail. I will now use these for trail running, hiking, and backpacking. I'm 58, so while I love the grip and agility of the Peregrines for shorter trail runs, I'm enjoying the extra cushioning of the Xodus for longer hikes/runs. They still feel agile and have great grip. I love the Xodus.
I have purchased many (many) Saucony shoes over the years. I like them because they reliably fit and cushion my feet. Until this pair! I bought them to be "work shoes" at my volunteer Food Bank job. The cushioning is good. But there is something about the tongue and upper edge that kills my feet. I tried to "break them in," but only succeeded in breaking my lower ankle area and the top of my feet. Total waste of money.
The upper rim of the outer sole bend inward when you run. You will be running on the rim of the outer sole and get blisters. You will not notice that when you try em on in a store. I even tried em on a tredmill in my store without notice. And I have not pick a too small size. I got professional help in my running store to select size. After 4km on my first run I did start to get blisters on both my feet. The side of metatarsals did hit that hard rim of the outer sole time after time, and i had to stop running. both my feet now has water blisters. Now that I know what the problem is, I can see that every time I take a step the top of the outer sole bend inward and end up under the bend between my metatarsals an proximala phalagerna! Really really bad, I can not ... MoreThe upper rim of the outer sole bend inward when you run. But I would say that it is a construction error.Don't make the same mistake and throw away €200 on a single run like me.
