Healthy base, you do the rest. I read the other reviews with interest and must say that this is probably one of the most varied star ratings I have seen for some time. Conflicting views in large numbers ❓A lot of the comments said it was bland. Is that a sign of the actual taste or a confirmation that we have been conditioned to sugar in cereals by stealth? The basics of a healthy breakfast are there in the whole grains, and a sweetener with the sultanas. This cereal on its own is fine and the cost is very budget friendly. Whilst I prefer yoghurt, I am sure kids will prefer milk. I found the taste exactly as I expected, the bran tasted as real bran should and not coated in sugar. Remember this is a seed, it will not have a depth of flavour, with undertones or some exotic herb or spice. The sultanas were tasty but looked sparse, even though the packet said 20%. I guess it is that old illusion of volume vs weight. But this is easily overcome by adding your own to taste. Given its taste, size of packet, health benefits and low cost, I would have given it 5 stars but had to take one off because it does not say where the ingredients were sourced. Made in NZ yes, but not country of origin for ingredients. I, and probably many others, would really like to know that. I am not a huge cereal eater but I did enjoy this and would certainly consider it for next purchase

A Nutritious and Flavorful Start to Your Day. I found it to be a nutritious and satisfying breakfast option. Bran flakes and sweet sultanas offer a balanced blend of fibre, vitamins, and natural sweetness to kickstart your day. The first thing that caught my attention was the hearty texture of the bran flakes. They are crispy and provide a satisfying crunch, adding a pleasant element to each bite. The bran flakes are well-sized, neither too large nor too small, making them enjoyable to eat. Adding sultanas to the bran flakes adds a burst of natural sweetness and a touch of chewiness. Is it really healthy? I can't compare with similar product of a different brand as I have never bought bran flakes cereals before. The sultanas in the box I redeemed was big in size, sweet and wasn't hard to chew. The bran flakes were sweet, crispy and slightly nutty in taste. As always with cereals it's hard to get the balance of ingredients in every bowl as the heavier ingredients usually ends up towards the bottom of the box. I feel that's enough raisins overall to break up the taste of the bland bran. The cereals and raisins were fresh out of the plastic bag. The cardboard box as storage didn't quite fare too well after a few times of opening and closing. I used a clip for the plastic bag instead to seal in the freshness of the cereals. Good size portion in a package if you are into having cereals daily. If I am incorporating bran as part of my diet for its fibre to support healthy digestion, I would not go for this product mainly because the amount of sugar is 22. 3g for each 100g of cereal. I tried to make a slice by adding pepita seeds, nut butter and bran sticks (another bunch sample) in an attempt to reduce the sweetness without too much success. It also looks rather unappealing and doesn't taste any better. I'll give this a pass and rather obtain my fibre and vitamins from a tastier and less sugar source.
Liked....... But Room for Improvement. This is the first time I have eaten processed cereal in about 15 years. To my immense surprise, I found the flakes to be delicious. Bran flakes tend to be tasteless and rough, but these had a nice mild sweetness to them, and a fantastic crunchy mouth feel. However, I seriously disliked the dried fruit – which looked and tasted like it had been petrified in ancient Egypt. Just how old was that dried fruit? Or shudder the thought – goodness knows how much preservative was on it to make it so ridged. I picked it all out and threw in the bin. I enjoyed the flakes with Macro plumper dried fruit, and vanilla almond milk instead. I had three bowls for breakfast. I would buy again without the fruit, or with different fruit..... but ... MoreLiked....... But Room for Improvement. This is the first time I have eaten processed cereal in about 15 years. Needs extras. ❇️ no added sugar, preservatives, artificial flavours or colours✅ high in thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, iron and folate contains gluten, nuts, wheat and soy✳️ suitable for vegetarians The exterior cardboard is recyclable. The inner packaging needs to be binned. Made in New Zealand. Great extended use by date of November 23. This cereal has a 4. 5 star health rating, but has 10 grams of sugar per 45gram serving, which I think is on the higher side. It suggests that this can be included as a dietary intake of daily whole grains (as 51% per serving). It has a good, lower pricing compared to it’s comparable counterpart. To be fair bran isn’t exactly something people crave and it doesn’t tickle the taste buds normally. But it needs fruit or freshness or something!! Otherwise is pretty bland, with bursts of plump sultanas, but the bran outnumbers the sultanas. I don’t think this will be an addition to my next shopping list.
Branny. Not something I usually purchase so I was curious how this would taste. Upon opening the packet and pouring it into my bowl, the cereal certainly looked bland, kind of expected though, this is not meant to be a sexy cereal! I decided to add some banana, just because, and then took my first bite. It was not as bad as I thought it was going to be but not amazing either. The addition of the banana was great as it provided some flavour and then together with a sultana, the flavours were quite nice. The bran flakes themselves were bland, but that's just what they are, the sultanas were quite big and plump with a nice taste. Overall, a great way to include fibre into your diet. Doesn't compare well to the market leader. I have recently opened a pack of Sultana Bran so was able to compare the two bran and sultana products. The Woolies flakes are larger, more evenly shaped and much paler. Sultana Bran has a toasty flavour, whereas the Woolies version is bland. Sultana Bran contains soft, juicy sultanas; these are hard. They both contain a similar proportion of flakes to sultanas. This cereal is made in New Zealand. It has 4. 5 health stars. Although it contains no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives it does contain Vegetable Emulsifier 471, which is a palm oil product. The cardboard box is recyclable in my kerbside collection, but the plastic bag cannot currently be recycled in my area. The price was $4. 90 for 700g. Not enough Sultanas. Interesting choice of packaging colours. Purple, appeal to a specific audience, especially women. Cardboard Cr#p - Avoid like the Plague. These have to be the absolute worst Woolworths product I have ever tasted. It hurts to give 1 star as I feel, even that is being overly generous. The Bran Flakes themselves were so pale and anaemic looking that I actually thought it was shredded cardboard when I first took out single flake to try dry. Adding milk made no improvement as these tasted of nothing but still left a weird aftertaste of what can only be described as pure sadness. the texture was strange, not the normal crunch you would get from name brand Sultana Bran as an example. The Sultanas were the Crown of Thorns on top and provided a sense of hope before inflicting nothing but pain and suffering. Shrivelled, rock hard and no amount of soaking or chewing would soften these black nuggets. They resemble dried rodent droppings and I consider myself fortunate to not know if they taste similarly. In the below photo, you can see the stark difference between the aged, dried up, monstrosity that is enclosed in the packet and the vibrant, plump, juicy and sweet sultanas I added ( Woolworths cheapest home brand product) for comparison in the dream of helping this product become palatable. This 700g packet of punishment was fully consumed alone by myself as no one else would look twice let alone consider helping me push through my penance. Each time I assumed it must get better, each time I was proved wrong. Please for the love of all that is holy, avoid this cardboard cr#p like the plague. I would honestly not wish these upon an enemy. FULL DISCLOSURE: I did NOT have Covid during the consumption of this sample nor have I ever so there is no chance of any lingering long Covid or other diseases affecting my sense of taste, smell, touch etc. I am unaware if that would have actually helped score the product higher if my tastebuds didn't work but I would wager a solid no chance. The only positive to this product was that it made whatever food or drink consumed after taste so much better. In fact, it would often lead to feelings of euphoria knowing I was free of eating this for at least a day.
