Good emergency Sponge. Thanks again Bunch for my sample, sadly as I was not in a 'Happy Bunch Place' my sample expired. But I went in and purchased at a later time, This was my 'Bunchiversary Sample' For the Double Sponge pack you'll pay $5. 00, this uses at least 95% Australian ingredients, no artificial colors or flavours. Suitable for Vegetarians and comes with a 2. 5 HSR. I decided as I was needing cheering up I decided to go to town with this sample, decorated 1 and turned the other into 6 not so mini trifles. Have never covered a cake like this with cream but will do this again, wasn't overly sweet and adding the fresh fruit made all the difference. I then turned my attention to my mini trifles, didn't do a trifle at Christmas last year and missed the taste sensation that they are. Here are my photos. Used the cherry juice on top of sponge and layered with custard, port wine jelly and whipped cream. Love popping some toasted almonds on top for a bit of crunch, what a delight these were to eat and there was a wee bit of sponge left over for me to enjoy with a cuppa. My mum could not make a sponge for the life of her, our closest neighbor back in my farm days made the lightest and fluffiest sponges. Will always remember Mrs McIntosh (Mrs Mac) we called her, for her sponges. Think she used to use duck eggs in hers, they were the best. Thanks again Bunch for my Bunchiversary sample, am only sorry I didn't pick it up in time. But I'll happily pay the bucks for one of these again, cheers all. xxxx

Very good sponge. When I got this, I wasn't what to do with it as I have never baked a sponge cake myself. When hubby brought it home, I was very surprised how big the cake was. Double layered and rather impressive! I spread a thick layer of lemon butter on the top of the bottom sponge then a layer of whipped cream. I then place the other sponge cake onto. Spread strawberries pulp then cream then dress it with some quartered fresh strawberries. The cake looked very impressive, however due to it's height; the top sponge toppled over when I served it! Both layer of the sponge cake was delicious! Very light, moist, not too sweet and moorish! Mmmmm - CAKE !! Cake, cake, wonderful cake - sorry for the singing, just that I usually get the "useful" things for reviewing !! What can I say - light, moist, very flavoursome and convenient - what could be better? Obviously it had to be dressed up so slathered the strawberry jam into the middle (did both open side so that the cream didn't soak into the cake and make it soggy), whipped and dolloped the Woolies thickened cream (adding a few drops of vanilla essence and a bit of sugar makes a passable chantilly cream and sound SO much more posh when you say it to guests), then sliced strawberries to finish. Had to fight for a second slice as the family were RATHER enthusiastic on this one. Definitely a "buy again" product - thanks Woolies, made my day for my ... MoreMmmmm - CAKE !! Light & Fluffy. I received this sample for my 4 year Bunchee anniversary back in April. I located the sponge in the bakery section of my local Woolworths and it must be popular as it took me a couple of go's to find it. Price is a very reasonable $5. It is thawed from frozen which I am usually not in favour of but it did not seem the affect the quality of the sponge. Packaging says unsuitable for home freezing. I cut the top in half and filled it with cream and berries and used it to celebrate my anniversary. It was a big hit. So light, fluffy and very fresh. The film is return to store and the tray is to be thrown in the bin. I did not read the packaging until later so I did freeze the bottom half of the sponge. Light and fluffy. Got this for my Bunchiversary and it was the last packet on the shelf, so assuming it's quite popular. When I opened the packet as the cakes were stacked ontop of each other in the plastic packaging, so when taken out one was smooth and nice on top but the other one had a bit of a dent. Decided to fill with some jam and cream and was going to top with some berries, but as berries are quite expensive at the moment ended up whipping up some cream to cover the whole cake (and to cover the dents and imperfections). Please excuse my piping, still a work in progress Cake was delicious, not too sweet and was very light and fluffy. Having it with the cream and jam was perfect, my family loved it. Lovely soft texture. I am guessing that these unfilled sponge cakes are very popular because it always seemed to be out of stock!I found it on the bottom shelf of the pre-packaged bakery aisle; beneath the lamingtons. It is priced at $5 which I think is very reasonable. It was well packaged in a clear plastic tub, although there was a few marks in the top of the sponge. The plastic outer packaging can be recycled in-store; the plastic tub looked like it should be recyclable, but it had the bin symbol next to it I was very surprised at how light and soft the sponge was. Not quite the same as home-made, but pretty close. I added some jam and cream for a simple dessert. The whole family enjoyed it. I can see myself buying this cake in the future for many uses. Can’t go wrong with sponge. Love these sponges. Vanilla sponge, pack of 2. They pull them from the freezer to defrost on the shelf. fantastic price point. I’ve used them in the past to make a simple jam and cream sponge, broken them up to make trifle but this time I used them to make a quick birthday cake. I cut each cake in half to add a filling. I made up a packet of Cottee’s vanilla pudding that I added cocoa to make it chocolate. I then covered the outside with chocolate buttercream and added chocolates and crushed chocolate biscuits Tasty and versatile and will keep purchasing to continue to create different desserts

Great fluffy sponge with vanilla flavour. I Love creating cakes and was excited to receive this sponge cake to test. It is fluffy and has a great vanilla flavour which I would usually take to make a strawberry shortcake . But I had a very special occasion for my dad coming up so I used this sponge to create this berry cake in the shape of berries in a box. the box is made out of biscuit dough cut in rectangle shape and ‚glued‘ together with Royal icing. Inside I used the two sponge cakes, cut to fit. On top of the sponge cake I put vanilla cream and different fruit on top of the cream. the sponge cake did. held up really well.

The best sample yet! This is possibly the best sample product I've ever had to review on here. I made a cherry and cream cake with it, but it honestly smells and tastes so good that we've already repurchased twice just to eat with tea because it doesn't even need any additions to make it taste better. This literally tastes exactly like a fresh baked high quality light sponge (I'm talking the ones without any butter added - just eggs and sugar and a bit of flour). My one and only criticism is that it doesn't come in larger sizes and maybe another couple of popular flavours like chocolate. I would absolutely not hesitate to use these as a base for fancy birthday and even engagement or wedding cakes if it weren't for their small size.

Trifle. Superb! Double sponge cake to do exactly what we wanted to it. Being lovers of sweet treats where I live, it wasn’t hard. Top half inspired the household into getting it on for an “old fashioned” Trifle. Made a Raspberry jelly, bought a tub of thick custard and a carton of whipping cream. And a small can of Australian Apricots in juice. Didn’t forget some crushed walnuts. Now to assemble! Whip the cream. Drain the apricots. Chop the nuts. Chop the set jelly into large chunks Cut one half of the sponge into small wedges. Line the bowl. Add custard (be generous) (helps to put custard first onto sponge to keep sponge dry) add drained quartered apricot halves, more custard, lots of cream, jelly, then the rest of the sponge wedges, cream layer (be generous) ... MoreTrifle. The remaining sponge half was cut in half across the middle. Spread with lemon butter. Top on, lather with double dollop thick cream, slice a banana on top and sprinkle with sifted chocolate powder or grated dark chocolate. Thanks a bunch, Bunch!!. The sponge was good in many ways. Nice light texture, firm enough to cut without crumbling, not too sweet, the cake was moist (no one enjoys a dry sponge!!). And very reasonable price if you want to buy. I will buy again. Will add one to my Christmas list for alternative dessert for the not so keen pudding people.
