The North American P-51 Mustang was an American single-engine fighter during World War II. It was produced at North American Aviation plants in the USA and was successfully used by the US Air Force and its allies during World War II and the Korean War. The very successful design from 1940 meant that the plane was continually improved upon until 1986! During those 46 years, approximately 15 to 16 thousand were produced. Currently many of these machines are in private collections. To this day, Mustangs are used in demonstration flights and sports competitions.

I’ve grown very fond of these 1/48 scale fighters from Cobi. I’ve already built the Maverick Mustang (along with several others) so I thought that I’d give the WWII version a go.Things I Like:As with the Maverick version, the overall look is very satisfying, particularly the profile. The shape of the forward fuselage is especially pleasing.Almost everything is in proportion with a few exceptions, see below. The usual crisp and clean pad printing, Cobi do this so well.Things I Like Less:As with the other models in this range Cobi use standard wheels and exhausts, so these look overscale, especially the tailwheel.Nice to have the US star on the upper wing, but it is a little too far aft, but that’s needed to keep the wing planform neat.It would be good if it ... MoreI’ve grown very fond of these 1/48 scale fighters from Cobi. I shall definitely be adding more of these to my collection.Excellent service from the Brick Tanks fam as always.
