I have had this pair of Prio's since April of 2020. It is now November 2022, and they are still going strong. I wear them for walking (including many many pandemic walks while everything was closed down) mostly on city streets/sidewalks, but also some light hiking terrain through the nature park dirt paths. I am a true size 8.5 wide when professionally measured. My larger foot measurement being 24.77cm long and 10cm wide. I purchased an 8.5 and they feel a little big. I could have gotten away with an 8, but I wasn't interested in exchanging them. They do look slightly clownish since they are a little on the big side, but I don't really care. The ball area of the sole is starting to have a slight wear spot now, but the rest of the shoe is very much intact and holding up exceptionally well. They are an incredible value for barefoot/zero drop shoes. I do not recommend hiking on wet dirt/rocks. There is zero traction for slippery surfaces. But for a barefoot, minimalist walking/running shoe, they are good, with a very roomy toe box. If you are looking for support, look elsewhere. This shoe is nicely barefoot minimalist, just how I like it. Will definitely order again when these ones eventually wear out.

Just not confidence-inspiring in brand new shoes. The second issue is sizing. I suspect a large number of customers are accustomed to sizing up to accommodate wider feet and therefore normally wear a size that is longer than standard. I do not have wide feet and typically pick my size by length without being constrained by width. That said, other than the insole issue my first walk in these shoes was great. Space to spread out my toes, a clever lace system so you can really get your feet secure if you want, thin, flexible soles that still offer plenty of protection (from city streets at least).Excited to do more with my first pair of shoes like this!

These shoes helped with the wide toe box (working with the elderly and seeing how our shoes squish your toes over time was eye opening, so this is my favorite feature about this shoe). How lightweight they are helped with fatigue. The lack of heal is my next favorite feature, I hate inclined heals in shoes as it hurts my knees and feet and can cause flare ups in my plantar fasciitis. These minimalist shoes however don’t help much with shock absorption or protection from hitting the sides of your feet, so my feet do feel beat up at the end of the day at times (and also can flare up my plantar fasciitis). I have finally (after years) found a shock absorbing shoe insert that finally makes these my favorite shoes! (Wish you guys at zero shoes made your own just for these shoes so the fit is perfect. could help with transitioning to a minimalist shoe or people with other foot issues?!)These have off and on been my go to shoes for I think 4+ years (for work or for outside walks/biking/errands etc, can’t do hiking the terrain is too rough for me in a minimal shoe my feet feet like they’ve been in a boxing ring). I finally have to retire them after all this time (falling apart in places and I could glue it back together but they have seen so much sweat and puddles and hours of wet feet inside them I can no longer get the stink out even after a baking soda and vinegar bath this time around. Sure beats other shoes where the heals wear down and that creates more foot, knee and back pain. I really appreciate how long these lasted and how much of a beating they took as I don’t have a lot of disposable income. Buying shoes every 6 months for work was killing me, some I was ripping holes in within a month. My biggest con (only other one is the hard impact of these shoes does cause me foot pain without a shock absorbing insert) is sometimes I cannot stand driving in them or any activity I roll my foot back on my heel. The seam of the sole to soft upper part of the shoe just really irritates my back heel and becomes at times very painful! (even without the inserts I put in) Especially for something I have to hold that position for like driving. Maybe something to work on in future designs to help protect the bone and sensitive area there when it is rolled back on the heel? I seriously can’t wear these on road trips if I’m driving because of this and even sometimes switch for my commute drive home. Maybe it’s me (I’m maybe just not there with the flexibility and strength for this level of minimalist shoe?) or daily abuse of my feet cause otherwise these work well for everything but rough/rocky hiking trails.

Horrible experience with Xero Shoes
31 October 2022

My son’s size 4 Nike’s were getting worn out, and I wanted to replace them with a pair of the Xero Prio. The sizing information on their site states that the shoes ā€œfit true to sizeā€ and they ā€œrecommend ordering your regular shoe sizeā€.I ordered and received a pair of the Youth 4 Prio, but they were way too small for my son’s feet. I emailed Xero about the issue and asked for help. They promptly replied with instructions on their exchange process and a note that the Women’s 6 is a half size larger than the Y4. This is where things started going downhill.Without knowing how their size relates to actual length, I didn’t feel like I had the necessary information to pick the correct size. This is where things started going downhill.Without knowing how their size relates to actual length, I didn’t feel like I had the necessary information to pick the correct size. So I measured my son’s feet, sent them the measurements, and asked for a recommendation on which size to choose. They responded that they don’t give out size recommendations based on 2 dimensional measurements. They also noted that they have templates available for their sandals, but those templates don’t work for the Prio so they don’t recommend using them.I didn’t have any way of sending them a 3 dimensional model of my son’s foot and I didn’t want to continue with the trial and error approach that they seem to favor, so I asked them for the dimensions of the insole for the Women’s 6.5 Prio. They replied back that, unlike every other shoe company, they do not provide measurements for their closed toed shoes. So after multiple emails over multiple days, my attempts to try to get help on choosing the correct shoe size for my son were unsuccessful. Unlike every other shoe company, Xero won’t provide any type of size to measurement mapping.Xero only offers a full refund if it’s part of an exchange. They said that the Women’s Prio 6.5 should be about the same size as my son’s size 4 Nike, so without any other recourse, I used their trial and error approach and ordered the Women’s size 6.5 Prio for my son. They are still too small. All of the time, effort, aggravation, and frustration are not worth it. I can’t condone giving my money to a company that makes their customers go through that.

My "Jack of All Trades", Go-To Shoe for any activity
25 October 2022

tl;dr: Xero really hit a home run with these. Close to perfect; I give it 4.9 stars (read on to find out why!).I'm a women's size 8.5, but I purchased the men's 7.0 for a bit of extra (a quarter to half of an inch) width in May 2020. Since then, I have hiked in them all over NorCal, the Pacific Northwest, and Hawaii over different types of terrain. I prefer my Prios to traditional Merrell hiking boots, and find them surprisingly stable even on rough/ uneven surfaces and steep inclines/ declines. They are really comfortable to walk/hike/exercise/lounge in. I've also played pickleball and tennis in these, and used them while cross-training and weight lifting. They can do it all. The material is also very breathable, and my feet never stay too hot in them.I recently took advantage of the recent sale to get a new pair since mine are pretty beat up, but I bought the Women's version this time so I thought I'd do a quick review, and point out just one small knock on an otherwise perfect shoe (in my book!).(1) Width difference comparing the Women's to Men's Prios (I sized down by 1.5 as recommended by Xero)This isn't really a knock, more so an FYI for any ladies thinking about buying the Men's version (do it!). I didn't think a fraction of an inch would make a big difference, but once I put on the Women's 8.5, I immediately missed the full splay and extra room of the Men's 7.0. If you are looking for maximum splay, I would recommend buying the Men's version instead, although I should also mention that my old Prios did stretch/ expand a little over time. I'm too used to the extra width, so I may return the Women's version and get another pair of the Men's instead.(2) I'm not sure if Xero has updated the Prio's design and shape over time, or if there are small differences between the Men and Women's versions. Visually comparing my old pair from 2020 (Men's) and the new pair (Women's), the old toe cap on the Men's looks just a touch more rounded than the Women's. Maybe this is also why the Men's "feels" slightly roomier (see my comments in #1)?(3) The material on the sides of the toe caps (where the shoe bends the most for toe off) ripped on my old pair (both sides) fairly early on, hence my 4.9-star rating. I hope the new pair holds up a little better!Overall, the Prios are still my go-to, everything shoe, and have held up well over the last 2+ years. I've tried the Mesa Trail and Terraflex models on at a store, and they didn't fit my feet right or offer the same level of comfort. I also have a pair of Hana (Men's) which I'll review separately, but still prefer my Prios!

Relief From Knee Pain
17 September 2022

In 2020 I was diagnosed with chondromyxoid fibromas in my knees (sounds scary, but just painful). I was told at that point that there was not a lot they could do for the issue, just kind of to deal with the pain. So I have accustomed my life to dealing with the pain in my knees and not thinking of it too much.My boyfriend bought his first pair of Xero shoes in 2021 and since then, has not shut up about the shoes and the benefits he has had wearing them. When I started walking again and focusing on movement more, I was getting blisters from my old regular pair of Under Armor shoes and knew it was time to replace them. I was skeptical when the box came to my house and wondered if I made the right choice.Let me tell you... The first day I wore them - I had ZERO knee pain. Something I hadn't had in years. I wasn't even expecting to have a difference in my knees, just a difference in my feet hopefully without pain. To not have knee pain was huge! I am usually a flip flop wearer and now I can't even wear those without noticing the difference. I love my Prio's and just ordered another pair. Hopefully they last as long as they say, because I am one to definitely wear out my shoes.

Solid shoe that is well described
16 October 2022

I've walked a few miles in these now and they have been comfortable right out of the box. So far, the traction is solid for pavement, smooth dirt trails, and the slightly rougher rocky dirt road I've used them on. As expected, I wouldn't wear them on anything technical, though, and I'm not confident how they will be when things are wet. I can feel the ground well while also having a bit of cushioning for sharp rocks. They are wide enough for my feet, and certainly better than many conventional shoes, but don't strike me as particularly wide as far as other "foot-shaped" brands go. I'll be interested to see how durable they are over time. If they hold up, I will consider these my go-to shoe for all-purpose sneakers. For reference, my feet are 25.5 cm long and 10 cm ...Ā MoreI've walked a few miles in these now and they have been comfortable right out of the box. For reference, my feet are 25.5 cm long and 10 cm at the widest point. I find sizes across brands are incredibly variable, but I generally wear a W9.5-10. For these Prios, the W10 fit me comfortably with and without socks, though there is not tons of wiggle room so you might consider sizing up if you want to wear thick socks or are between sizes. (FYI, I probably would have ordered in Men's sizes to get a little more width, but they weren't on sale at the time.)

What took me so long to find these?!
23 April 2023

I never saw myself as a barefoot, wide toe box, shoe wearing kind of girl. I have definitely grown more conscious of my shoe purchases over the past few months. I was comparing these to vivo barefoot for a while and I am thrilled to have made these my everyday footwear. I have worn them to the gym (although I don’t recommend tread running with the Prios, probably better on the road), I have worn them running errands, and even worn them hiking. They do sound a bit floppy when walking but I don’t care! I wore them hiking and my feet felt amazing as ever because they really got a chance to stretch out in the shoes and grasp the earth below. I have also worn them hiking with the optional insoles taken out and that was a feeling I’ve never experienced before. It is amazing to free the toes and really let my feet grip what’s below them with the thin soles. I’m considering a pair of the hiking shoes because my black prios are getting pretty dirty! Also the tread grip on the Prios is amazing and was very pleased with it while hiking.

Work for me for Zumba and Pickleball
7 July 2022

I have two pairs of these Xeroshoes. I am not a runner but I walk and wear them for my high intensity Zumba class 3x a week in a wooden floor gymnasium and also when I play pickleball a couple of times a week. Before I tried Xeroshoes I spent a lot if money on high end specific shoes for both activities but could not find a comfortable sport shoe that didn’t make the ball of my feet go numb or cause me to ā€œfallā€ off the side edge causing me to almost twist my ankle. Plus the soles would wear out so quickly. I tried all sorts of insert pads and arch inserts but nothing was comfortable enough for me. I did not see where these shoes were designed for court sports so I was skeptical about being able to jump around and especially sprint and pivot quickly playing ...Ā MoreI have two pairs of these Xeroshoes. I did not see where these shoes were designed for court sports so I was skeptical about being able to jump around and especially sprint and pivot quickly playing pickleball. I never tried barefoot shoes before and I was a little skeptical so waited to give these a good try before giving my review. I have been wearing these shoes for about 2 months and my feet feel perfect, the shoes feel very secure, and i have no numbness or issues at all. I am 57 year old female with narrow bony fee and was concerned that I didn’t have enough padding on the bottom of my feet so I put a thin insert and wear thin socks- this works for me. I thought I might have an adjustment period where my feet might hurt but I really didn’t maybe because I wear flip-flip sandals mostly every day ever since moving to Florida 7 years ago so maybe my feet are already adjusted to the barefoot mode, I don’t know. All I do know is that these shoes work very well for me and despite being so lightweight are holding up perfectly and do not even show any wear on the soles yet. I am very happy I found these. I just wish they came in white. It’s hot on the courts as lighter colors for hot Florida would be nice.

good but inconsistent
27 December 2022

The good part: My feet love these shoes. My bunion doesn't hurt as much any more now that I wear them instead of my other shoes. They also give me traction so I don't slip when doing lunges (I did slip with my Chuck Taylors). What I don't like is the inconsistency. After I got my first pair of Prio shoes, I tried ordering hiking boots. After trying 2 sizes, I had to give up; they didn't fit right, even tho the Prios fit like a dream. That was disappointing. Then I got another disappointment when I followed the website instructions to order the size you usually wear when I ordered my 2nd pair of Prios. They were too small! The half size larger seemed to work when I tried them on, but then after taking my first half hour walk in them, insoles removed for more toe ...Ā MoreThe good part: My feet love these shoes. Then I got another disappointment when I followed the website instructions to order the size you usually wear when I ordered my 2nd pair of Prios. They were too small! The half size larger seemed to work when I tried them on, but then after taking my first half hour walk in them, insoles removed for more toe space, the heel of my left foot was red and tender. I compared the left shoe to the right one and found that the "wall" of the back of the left shoe (behind the heel) didn't come down as close to the sole as the wall of the right one did. So Iput the insoles back in, problem solved, but I'm not thrilled to have lost the room. Right now, the patience / effort required to get Xero shoes to work is annoying. When they work out all the glitches, this footwear and the ability to get what you think you're ordering will be amazing.
