The membranes of the woofer and midrange driver are made from Sony's lightweight and rigid cellular material, previously known as mica-reinforced cellular fibers (MRC). The latest generation material has been further optimized alongside the mechanical drivers to enable an even broader frequency response with smoother and more natural acoustic properties. The unique matrix of aramid fibers suppresses membrane resonances and reduces distortion not only at low frequencies but also at mid and high frequencies. The result is powerful sound across all frequencies, which remains exceptionally clear even at high volumes. The contour of the woofer incorporates another Sony technology in the form of curved notches that enhance the symmetry of the vertical amplitude, leading to significantly lower distortion and greater clarity. The five-axis structure distributes resonances, while the dynamic air diffuser ensures efficient airflow for smooth movement and cooling of the voice coil. The acoustically optimized centering ring allows for higher load capacity and better airflow, and its profile is designed to dampen the speaker cone more quickly and precisely. The phase parts for damping the woofer resonance of the speaker provide an ideal frequency response up to the crossover points with the corresponding tweeters. A rigid aluminum voice coil and a dynamic air diffuser enhance the speaker's wide frequency response and ensure controlled and dynamic bass reproduction.
