Born in 1857 in regional Victoria, Castlemaine Brewers launched the XXXX brand in Castlemaine in 1924. XXXX gets its name from a time when the number of Xs on a beer label illustrated how strong the beer was. Pronounced four-ex, XXXX is super popular in Queensland and still features the Castlemaine name on its yellow-and-red label. It is brewed today by Castlemaine Perkins brewery in Milton, just an 8 minute drive from Brisbane CBD. XXXX GOLD is a 3.5% ABV crushable, full-flavoured, mid-strength Aussie lager that’s made with Queensland cane sugar, Australian malted barley, pure local water and brewery-grown Golden Cluster hops & yeast. Natural flavour and zero preservatives.

Sampled a few beers over the years, lately it was Iron Jack or Great Northern, just finished a trip around Australia, got to drink a few XXXX, now got the taste, a good, clean, refreshing beer, easy on the palate, great in hot weather, recommended.

Had enjoyed this beer for many many years - However as it has hit out of my price range I must now look for something else. So bye bye 4X.
Good old Queensland Beer . You can't go wrong . Cheers
Good as gold. My favourite beer. Tried a few different mid strength beers but always come back to my old favourite.
Didn’t experience headache the night after, Not flavourful but felt refreshed a day after
I've tried other mid strength beers but this is by far Australia's best tasting mid strength . Drink it ice cold , it's crisp and reliable taste won't let you down.
This is the closest tasting beer to the old discontinued “Swan Lager” from the pre 80s almost exactly the same just lighter in alc
I'm dancing in the rain with jubilation...Doing my bit to support this small boutique brewery
