Bring back the SprocketRocket!

I bought one of these a few years ago, and decided to get a second for my SO’s bike. It’s a cheaper option, gives me access to the rear hatch, and has never failed on me. Getting bikes up can be tricky if you’re not tall. If you’re only driving with your bikes every now and then, I think this is the way to go. Takes 10 minutes max to put on and stored away with a low profile. Hang it up in the corner of the garage, or slide it under your bed if you live in an apartment.

I have had multiple parts on this break. The rear strap (twice) snapped & the plastic nut that holds on the screws stripped out. I loved the older racks from Yakima but this is a blatantly dangerous product that should be recalled. I’ve been stranded twice and ended up having to put my bike in my car because of this things failiure. The lever is about to give way on mine too (the tell tale white of low quality plastic stress is coming out). I plan on throwing this away when I get home. But I write this I am stuck because of it at the side of the road putting my bike in the cab.I wish I hadn’t trusted this company. I won’t in the future.

ForkLift Dislike the clamp I've been a loyal customer of Yakima for more than a decade. I had a roof rack with ski and bike mounts that lasted for more than a decade. The company was pleasant and generous when I had questions or parts requests. When I got a new car with factory installed rack, had to get new rooftop bike rack. Thought only of Yakima. Bought this product. For me, I find the clamping mechanism of the fork to be difficult to use, sometimes maddeningly frustrating. First, when putting the bike mounts on the roof rack, it requires a feat of dexterity since you have to hold the skewer stable, while also pulling the spring loaded locking cam away from the clamping handle... and then twist the handle to screw in the skewer. For me, I find the clamping mechanism of the fork to be difficult to use, sometimes maddeningly frustrating. First, when putting the bike mounts on the roof rack, it requires a feat of dexterity since you have to hold the skewer stable, while also pulling the spring loaded locking cam away from the clamping handle... and then twist the handle to screw in the skewer. It's a pain. After getting the bike mount on roof rack, I find it difficult to then get the tension exactly right for the forks - it's a very small margin of error between too tight and too loose. If you have multiple bikes or transport friends' bikes, etc., it's not quick or easy to adjust the fork mount. Same annoyance with putting tension on the cam and twisting the handle. Finally, it takes two hands to get the rear tire strap out of the locking mechanism. I'm often realizing that I need to get it out of the locking mechanism while holding the bike. I have to set the bike down and get it out with two hands. It's a small thing, but my last Yakima rack I could get this mechanism to work with one hand. On positive side, the SKS lock core installs easily, it looks attractive, and is secure on my Outback's factory rack. Overall, for me, it's not a great product since your main interface with the rack is using the fork mount clamp and rear wheel strap. I find both to be mildly frustrating and wish it had more intuitive and easy-to-use design. Your mileage may vary.

Both the REI site and Yakima site say this rack fits a 2021 Subaru Crosstrek with factory cross-rails; however, that's not true. The rear mount has an issue -> on the middle setting, it's too lose. On the short setting, it's too tight to clamp. REI store rep was as helpful as usual (took a very hard look at the hardware, attempted several modifications, was definitely hands-on), but couldn't overcome poor concept. Yakima rep (phone support) was of no value, finally recommending a return/purchase different one, which if there was a different model that wasn't $50 more, would be reasonable."Fix" - of course there's a way to make the rear clamp 'work' (hint: simple increase the thickness of the grip area, or tape a small piece of inner-tube around the crossbar or ... MoreBoth the REI site and Yakima site say this rack fits a 2021 Subaru Crosstrek with factory cross-rails; however, that's not true. Factory crossbars are common enough, that Yakima should have more than three 'settings' on the rear mount, on a $200 rack.

Bought this today for my 2015 Audi Allroad...mounted 50" Jetstreams with Timberline Towers last week. Very easy assembly. Please note the following. Both the front fork and rear fork mount come with 3 "stages". For the Jetstreams you will want the lowest of the the three...adjust BEFORE you put on rack. Be careful of the clearance with your vehicle hatch...I had to move my towers forward 5 inches to ensure the hatch spoiler wouldn't be scratched by the rack. Remember the fork adjusts counter-clockwise when re-assembling. Meaning...you will unscrew the fork from the bolt..then insert the bolt through the front of the fork....when re-assembling...rotate to your LEFT to "grab" onto the thread. Last tip...buy enough locks so towers and forks all have ONE key.

The clamps have 3 preset spacing settings. The front one took all of my bodyweight and most of my vocabulary to get it to pop into a different hinge position but worked well enough once adjusted. Using my Subaru OEM cross bars, I was stuck between too loose and being unable to close the mechanism on the rear clamp. Using some 7/8" rubber tubing, I cut some pads for the bottom of both clamps. They now fit more snug with a bigger contact patch and pass the "grab and shake" test. I also added a black zip tie behind the rear wheel strap mount because it was able to slide around loosely on the rack when my bike isn't installed. Overall it's a fine bike mount now but for 200 bucks it shouldn't have required a trip to the hardware store.

Skewer would not loosen.

Purchased this rack for my 21 yr old on who used it once with his mountain bike on his Subaru Crosstrek. After riding he put the bike back in the mount and tightened the skewer since it has to be hand loosened/tightened each time the bike is put on the rack. This is a pain to do each time the bike is placed in and removed from the rack. This is due to the way the mountain bike fork engages with the skewer and if you do not tighten it then it will not be secure for travel. The skewer tightened and would not loosen so he could not close the skewer - he did not remove the skewer end so it had already been screwed on and in place. We tried to loosen it using hands and a single pair of pliers that we had with us but it would not budge. Universal forklift is lightweight, works well and holds any size bike. But it’s only convenient if you have a bike with a quick release. If you don’t have a quick release or have a through axle, it doesn’t work as seamless. My old mtn bike has QR, but I just bought a new bike with through axles. I had to exchange the forklift for the HighRoad which is heavier, but is more universal for my situation. The other issue I didn’t like is when you dismount your bike you need to tighten the skewer to make sure it’s closed tight against the rack. Otherwise the lock core is useless and the rack can just be taken off. When coming back from a ride you then have to loosen the sewer and adjust it for your bike again. Not a huge deal but a detail that takes away from user experience.

My car doesn't allow a hitch point. This was the best solution. Product seems strong, easy to attach,and holds bicycle like it is a part of the rack.Yes, you must remove the front wheel because it attaches to the fork. You must be able to lift the bike safely so as not to mar or dent the roof. The bike should have easy to remove front axle spindle.
