Finally can take my S frame bike on my bike hitch

This works great for what it is made for. I can easily put my small frame bicycle on my yakima bike hitch rack now whereas before I could not. My only complaint with the product is that I wish you could lock the length of the adapter like you would a shower curtain or something because the way it is now the adapter moves around a lot because the length is not lockable.

This good product would be much better if it used an internal spring like the Allan bars have or some other way to lock it to length once you put it on the bike. It will work but is harder to setup the bike on bike rack without this feature. They (bought 2) are being used on a Yakima Full Swing rack to carry 2 Pace Aventon 350 step through e-bikes.

Got for new mountain bike

I got this for my new mountain bike that doesn't fit on my existing rack. It does the job but doesn't carry bikes as well as standard bikes that don't require this bar.I found I needed a couple of extra bungies. One to keep the front tire from rotating and banging up my brake and shifter levers. Another from the bike to the bottom of the rack to keep the bike from swaying. Neither are needed for my road bike or wife's hybrid. The new mountain bike has a dropper post which is too big for the vertical stabilizer strap. I have to open the brace up a little farther so the strap goes around the upper section of the dropper post.I was surprised that the telescoping arm doesn't lock. This assumes you are using a quality rack with rubber and not velcro straps. It is ... MoreI got this for my new mountain bike that doesn't fit on my existing rack. Like Yakima. This one did not fit.

Did not fit bike. We have all Yakima products in our rack/carrier set up for all four cars. Unfortunately this tube did not fit our women's bike frame.

Must have for non-horizontal frames but tricky
28 October 2016

Bought these to go with the Yakima RidgeBack 4. For smaller frames and also for frames that are not completely horizontal this is a must. Smaller bikes won't fit the rack without it and larger frames will fit but the bike will be tilted...you've seen this with bikes going down the road with 1 wheel much lower that the rest. This is fine until you want to carry more than 1 bike, then the tires of 1 will interfere with the handle bars of another (especially with different size frames) making it near impossible to mount. The bars themselves are simple enough but I ran in to 2 problem areas. 1) on small frames you will need to raise the seat so that the bike mounts evenly and 2) the way that the tube fits right under the seat makes it difficult to strap in on the ... MoreBought these to go with the Yakima RidgeBack 4. I found that keeping the reflector on the bike seat post allows you to rest the bar underneath so that you have room to strap it in. Once I figured this out getting the bikes on and off was super simple.

Prrfect Solution

My wife has a step thru mountain bike that didn’t fit on the Yakima Rack. The bar was the perfect fit for a bike with no top bar. Already took the bike on a 100mile trip and it didn’t move at all on the bike rack.It does move up and down slightly once attached because it just hooks around the posts. It is secure though and I had no fear of the locking mechanism opening. Would recommend to a friend!

Useless

Purchased the Yakima BackRoad rack which can not accommodate my step-through bike frame. This adapter at 22” is too long to fit that bike. Are there any women on the Yakima design team?

Worked on different size bikes

Worked flawlessly on an almost 1800 mile trip down to Hilton Head and back to metro Detroit. Used them on my wife's full size Electra cruiser and my daughter's 24 inch mountain bike. No problems at all.

Yakima TubeTop Adapter - disappointing
23 November 2021

The Yakima TubeTop Adapter did not work for me for several reasons:The latches are hard to operate because the small pins cannot be easily depressed. (One wonders how this went into production without making sure the problem was addressed first.)The length of the tube cannot be set, which results in insecure rack mounting depending on how your bikes can be attached to the rack. For some bikes (a couple of our short bikes in particular) it is a chore to get the hooks to loop around the front and back and relatching the front and back is obstructed by the bike tubes.Overall, I think the adapter might work well for some bikes depending on size and frame type, but make sure you test the fit before buying. I'll be returning ours.

The delivery and packaging was fine but I was really tempted to send the bar back but didn't feel like dealing with a return. The push pins to open the collars are way too shallow. You can struggle to open with your fingers but I may just keep a small stick or screw in my pocket to push the pins in. That is until I get aggravated enough and go buy a different one.
