With its compact body and short 580mm scale length, the inexpensive CS40 is designed with comfort in mind for the young learner who would find a full-size instrument too cumbersome. Despite the reduced dimensions, the guitar still produces a responsive, well balanced tone. The CS40 is an excellent starter instrument that will encourage youngsters to keep playing. Body Don't let the low cost fool you, the CS40 utilises some high quality wood that has long been favoured by guitar manufacturers the world over. A spruce top compliments the Meranti back and sides for a fuller tone with good projection. As meranti has many similar sound features to mahogany, this will add an element of warmth to the tone over time. The soundhole is decorated with a traditional rosette for a neat visual aesthetic. Neck The neck is crafted from Nato and is topped with a rosewood fingerboard adorned with 18 frets which again lends itself to beginners. The strings provided are also nylon which is gentler on fingers that are new to the guitar. The profile of the neck is ideal for a beginner who is looking to improve their technique. The top of the neck sees a traditional, classical headstock fitted with dependable, high quality machine heads to keep you in tune. The lower bout of the body is fitted with a resilient rosewood bridge, upholding a sturdy connection between strings and bridge while enhancing sustain. For the younger learner, this is an ideal guitar that will see them through their first steps and as they progress, the CS40 will remain a constant joy to play. Even for fully-fledged classical musicians, the CS40 has all the necessary requirements that make for a superb model to have in your arsenal.

What a beautiful acoustic! Entry level but the tuning pegs have good control for a sharp sound. the neck and frets are comfortable and the look and feel complement any players experience. For players searching for something that is value for money but feels like something towards a premium model, you can’t go wrong. On a separate note Manny’s was quick to deliver, pro-actively communicated (via email) and the goods are top quality. Refreshing to have a good music store available in Australia.

I bought the Yamaha guitar for practicing difficult classical guitar passages. The 3/4 size makes these passages easier for my small hands. However, I was surprised by the ease of playing barred chords through the 10th fret and the sweet sound that stayed true through exercises in octave scales. I would select this guitar for the first guitar for a child.

This was my first time trying out Musiciansfriend. I must say I wish l had I known about them sooner. I bought a guitar for my daughter's lessons. The guitar came well protected in the box. The shipping was super fast and it arrived on time. The color of the guitar is gorgeous - my daughter loves it. The price too was very good compared to other sites. I also bought a case separately and the foot stool which I am happy with. I will definitely be shopping here for all our instrument needs. To top it all off. I received a purchase follow up call from the team at Musicianfriends. It's important to make sure your customers are happy with their purchase or address any questions or concerns.

We have a full size acoustic guitar, it is too bulky for my preteen and teenager. The Yamaha CGS103 3/4 size is perfect for young learners, and the nylon strings are easy on the fingers. This guitar is well made, easy to play, and easy to tune. Justin Giles/Sam Ash took care of the sale and made sure it was packed well for shipping. Great customer service, thank you!
I purchased this guitar for my teenage daughter who started learning in middle school. She really feels comfortable with the size and the sound is fantastic. She is currently using it for lessons and is very much enjoying having a guitar. It's a great starter instrument for her and I don't feel like I've broken the bank if she decides in 6-months she's no longer interested
I recently purchased a b-stock CGS103A as an alternative to a full-size classical guitar for a student with a slight build. The width of the neck is about perfect for smaller hands and the nylon strings are much easier on the fingers. The build seems pretty decent, although definitely not perfect. The glue seems a little sloppy and most of the frets needed to be sanded. After some string height adjustment, the guitar plays well and has a less boomy sound than a larger guitar (the thinner body is also nice for handling). Really all these need (as with any new guitar) is a decent initial setup and they become something less intimidating to the beginning player than a steel string acoustic. I bought this for my friend that wants to learn how to play the guitar. I chose this for him because it's a nylon string so it wouldn't hurt his fingers which I noticed that most beginners easily gets frustrated when the steel strings hurts their fingers and then stops learning how to play the guitar. The guitar is well made and it looks like that it will last a long time of course with proper care. It's very light weight and compact so it's easy to maintain and store this guitar and also good for traveling.
This Yamaha classical guitar is sold as a 'student' guitar but it's also a great travel size instrument. It's affordable, stays in tune, intonates well and has a great full body sound even though its a 3/4 size guitar. The nylon strings are easier on the fingers than steel strings and are great for someone just starting out. This one arrived with smooth fret ends and played perfectly right out of the box. Yamaha is one of best quality guitar brands, this one proves it.
I can't say anything bad about this guitar! I wish I would have had this guitar when I started learning 45 years ago instead of the full size steel string. I imagine a kid getting this as a first guitar would be thrilled.Intonation is amazing on this guitar - I play it 1 1/2 steps higher than standard tuning, so that might be why. Sounds great in standard tuning, too. The frets are dressed nicely with nothing hanging over the edge of the neck. Nice volume, especially for the size. No problems in the finish and the back of the neck is dry (no lacquer) and smooth. I bought this for me to just play fingerstyle pieces (Sungha/Kishibe) in my living room. I'm small to begin with (5'2") and had shoulder surgery that helped, but will never restore me to normal, plus I'm ... MoreI can't say anything bad about this guitar! I bought this for my daughter to learn guitar - she's delighted with it and so am I! Being more used to cheap beginner violins this guitar is far better made at this price point. It arrived almost in tune, correctly setup (compare with similar price violins that need 2 or 3 hours attention from a luthier). The finish is good and the internal bracing and structure is crude - but good. The sound is mellow and even for such a cheap instrument and 3/4 size - I'd like to hear a played in full size CS40 for comparison. Dispatch and delivery was fast and efficient as has always been my experience with German companies.
