The MG series embodies the Yamaha's pursuit of design excellence, and incorporates the advanced technologies, including studio-quality preamps, powerful digital processing, and a rugged, reliable design. For installed, recording, or live music settings, the solid construction and flexible design of these consoles let you shape your sound with confidence, continually delivering peak performance and a high level of sound quality and reliability. Moreover, the MG series mixing consoles feature Yamaha's studio-grade discrete D-PRE preamps, which utilize an inverted Darlington circuit comprising two cascading transistors in a configuration that provides more power with lower impedance. Delivering fat, natural sounding bass and smooth, soaring highs, with very low distortion, D-PRE preamps possess an impressively wide frequency range that allow them to handle signal from any audio source without overly amplifying any specific elements of the sound. Also, with phantom power, MG series consoles allow you to take full advantage of the greater frequency response and high sound quality of condenser microphones. The input channel with PAD switch accepts mic to line level of inputs. PAD switch attenuates high input signals that often accompany mic'ed instruments during performance, avoiding the clipping that can seriously affect your mix. And finally, the MG series benefits from Yamaha's experience in designing pro audio gear, featuring 3-band equalizers on all mono channels for precise control of your sound. High-pass filter allows you to eliminate unwanted low-frequency noise, for a smoother, cleaner mix.

Yamaha MG12XUF Analog Mixer

The mixer helped organize all of the audio devices in my studio and then some. The audio delivered is clear and crisp, even giving better sounding quality to my microphone. All audio channels worked fantastically, buttons and knows feel high quality, and the amount of options in output is a relief.

My friend had the same mixer for years ( this mixer has been out for soo long!!). But they still sell these which shows how good they still are. I use this for recording and church and the inbuilt effects and preamps sound sweet. This mixer is good but I upgraded to the 16 channel which is basically the same but has extra XLR inputs.Really recommend this mixer for anyone who doesn't need very complicated digital mixers.

Takes a bit of learning, and the USB input to computer is marginal in DAW, requires tweaking, as others have noted. Still for a rank amateur, and for this price point, it is a lot of kit. So much less noisy more features than a mixer I had years ago. Fits nicely on a computer stand. I had the MG10XU it was OK, but the sliders on this 12 are easier for quick adjusts.

The Yamaha MG12XU mixer has an extremely well thought out layout. The designers appear to have carefully considered how small venues would use a small mixer. * The first four channels are ideal for voice, with compression via a single-knob that adjusts the ratio from 1:1 to 4:1 (attack, release, etc. preset at typical vocal settings). * Channels 5/6 and 7/8 are stereo channels, but double as two extra mono mic channels. The EQ section is good, but I wish it had EQ bypass for when you want the simplest signal path possible. * Channels 9/10 and 11/12 are stereo line level ins, and 11/12 can be switched to instead manage the input from the USB digital input. The effects section has several decent-sounding reverbs. The effects section has several decent-sounding reverbs. Probably because Yamaha felt compelled to use everything the chip set provides, it also has modulation effects, distortion, and pitch shiftingnot the most useful effects for a PA, or even for recording, but they don't get in the way. Signal routing is excellent--a main stereo buss and secondary group, two aux busses, monitor out and headphone out. Aux 2 doubles as a send to the internal effects. It has PFL (pre fader listen), an excellent feature that lets you listen to only the pre-fader signal from one or more selected channels. I wish the channels had 'solo' buttons, which let the user hear a single channel with all its EQ and effects. I also wish that PFL affected the main output, not just the headphone out. On all these wishes, however, I get that Yamaha was striving for a balancewanting to provide pro-level features while not overwhelming casual users. I like that it is made in Indonesiathat nation has its problems, but isn't a repressive, exploitative state like China.
Versatile board with plenty of I/O choices. A little disappointed that the mid-range EQ doesn't have more flexibility. Other boards allow you to choose the mid-range frequency to boost or reduce, more like a parametric EQ. This one is fixed at 2.5kHz and makes it more difficult to get it just right. Hi and low control is also fixed like most other boards in this price range. Like everything else about it.
This is a great mixer. I have used it for multiple events and it has worked great with both powered and unpowered speakers. I used it for helping mic up the bit for the marching band and it worked great. I have used this for multiple performances of singing groups and it has worked very well. I replaced the 10 channel version with the 12 channel version since it had more features. Very happy with my purchase.
Perfect travel sized unit. Used to run local Karaoke more than enough channels and the effects allow for a nice configurable echo on the singers. The USB feature of the unit allows for a true digital signal removing the humm of a line in that some cheaper units have.
This is a very capable mixer for desktop use. 4 busses allow a lot of versatility with how audio is routed. I upgraded from a relatively compact mixer so having actual faders for each channel is nice as is having a dedicated ON toggle for each. Everything seems of high quality and they've even figured out a way to prevent a loud pop on power on/off. I will say that it is a large mixer at 12 x 16 inches. You need to have the desk space for it.
This is my 2nd MG12XU Yamaha Mixer, the first I sold to a friend when I purchased a 16 channel mixer, which has since been sold. Furthermore I recommended the MG12XU to another friend so three of us use the same model for our broadcasting needs. An excellent mixer and strongly recommended.
I have upgraded from the 10 Channel Yahama mixer. I bought the 10 Channel because it has knobs instead of faders. My personal belief is that its easier for dirt to get in the faders vs knobs. One of the things that i dont like is the faders seem very gimmicky and cheap it's not sturdy at all. This 12 channel mixer has a lot of options when it comes to outputs. However to use this mixer you will need to go through the manual.. For example to use the effects you would have to not only turn on the effects but you would have to enable the fader that is specifically for the effects. Effects will not work till the fader is enabled and turned up. I got this thing for DJing with powered speakers. The nice feature about it is that you can do a sound check while music without interrupting the song music ect. On the main channel. That's is nice like if you're DJing and another DJ has to hook up to the mixer. The Dj can do a sound check without you having to stopping the music.
