An underrated bookshelf model by Yamaha

I see a lot of best bang for the buck speaker reviews out there & these Yamaha's don't get mentioned very often. They are supposedly home theater speakers but I use them exclusively for music, they sound incredible and go toe-to-toe with other speakers I own. I do know I have a pair of NHT SuperZeros, ADS L400 and ACI Sapphire 25th Anniversary speakers, used to own Pioneer SP-BS22s and these little Yamaha's are to my ears the best overall of the bunch. I am looking to listen to some NHT SuperOnes since the NHT SuperZero sound is intriguing but I'm also looking at the Yamaha NS-555 the big brother of the NS-333.

Good for the price

I bought this speaker to go with my NS-C444. I personally like the way the speakers look and how smooth they sound. I am using them for my surrounds yet could very well use them for my mains in small living room or bedroom. I would buy these speakers all over again if given the choice. they were well worth the money I spent for them. Yamaha always makes very good quality versus cost products.

Impeccable sound, beautifully finished.

Let me start off by admitting that I'm a Yamaha fan. I've owned Yamaha audio equipment in one form or another since the early 80s and for a while I sold Yamaha audio equipment in what used to be called a "stereo store". As part of my sales training, I was invited to the Yamaha west coast facility in Buena Park to see their entire home audio product line and to hear a little bit about Yamaha's history and focus.I was pretty impressed with Yamaha's dedication to their "Natural Sound" philosophy - in other words, their mission of reproducing sound without artifact or coloration by using hand-picked components in collaboration with superior manufacturing practices. It is a philosophy that is fully realized in these small speakers. How do they sound? They sound every bit as good as the material the are reproducing (they add or subtract nothing). Highs are bright and clean (not brittle), mids are warm and open (without muddle) and the staging is very good. Lows are tight and relatively deep - good enough for most music, but a subwoofer will definitely be needed if you're looking to use these in a home theater configuration. As noted elsewhere, these are relatively power hungry little boxes. You won't get the best that these have to offer at less than 60 watts per channel. I'm running mine at 100 watts per channel and they are performing beautifully. I detect no strain at high volume. It's very hard to imagine a better speaker in this size at this price. Their sound and performance is as good as it gets and the finish (piano black lacquer) is a work of art.I've owned mine for 6 years now and am as satisfied with them now as I was the day I unboxed them.

Small size, great sound

I use these mostly for tv and movies, and have them hooked up to Yamaha rxv371 amp. I had some smaller box 1800bl's hooked up before. I turned my bass down on these, because they put out plenty for me at +2. The voices are deep and sound real natural. Also with the higher sensitivity, adjusted my turn on level.Played some Scorpions greatest hits and turned up to a -12db and the guitar screamed in a good way. They handle plenty of power. Just love these speakers. I bought 2 sets with the 444 center and a Yamaha sub. Movies just sound great, especially when turned up.I usually don't turn on my sub, except for movies. These have enough bass for sports, and everyday tv.Oh, also don't have to turn up as much to hear dialogue, which can be nice at night. Also built ... MoreI use these mostly for tv and movies, and have them hooked up to Yamaha rxv371 amp. A little taller for rear.

The Best Speakers ...
30 March 2012

This pair of bookshelves produces impressively high quality sound. I'm using it all the time and am completely blown away by it's quality. It's a bargain for the price and it looks pretty neat next to my TV.Using it mostly connected to my RX-V571 receiver to watch TV, movies, series and to listen to music while using some DJ equipment.Definitely recommended as a great buy!!!

Would buy again.

I bought these for a secondary system. I was not expecting much and was pleasantly surprised. The speakers will well packed, sounded good and had reasonable clarity for this price. The Yamaha name is why I bought them and I was glad not to be disappointed.

[Rewarded Review] Good Looking Sound

These speakers look and sound fantastic. They are on the heavy side, but I feel that this contributes to the excellent build quality.I added four felt pads to the bottom of each so that they could be placed on end tables.

I am an occasional user now_ was a heavy user_ purchased these speakers to replace an older pair of infinity speakers ($). These are excellent. They give a full sound, descent low end great high and mid range. Better than expected.

These are great sounding speakers. They bring out the subtle material that was available in the source that other systems leave hidden. Hearing guitar picks scraping the string (at low amp volume levels) may not seem worth mentioning, but if it is part of the source material, we should be able to hear it and these speakers give you that clarity. I think they are best when set up with a woofer, but they hold up nicely without one --- which your neighbors might appreciate. When the amp volume is turned up loud, these speakers handle the levels without cracking nor do they get shrill. The speakers I have have a neutral to ever so slightly warm tone.
