I've been playing for over 30 years. I mainly play a fretless bass but I like to play a fretted bass at times. My old fretted bass is worn out and spending 2k on an instrument that isn't my main go to bass is not something I'm going to do. This Yamaha is a great bass. The finish is perfect. Even in the hole to adjust the truss rod. I got the translucent black and It's a very black matte look. The frets are not super polished but are not sharp or sloppy. They play really nice, stand tall, and are capable of a wide variety of tones with different playing stlyes. The 5 piece neck is really playable. I'm really digging it. Bridge is the same gunmetal finish and isn't high mass but it's not flimsy like the stock fender and it is the standard 5 screw type if I ever decided to change it. I don't think I'll do it anytime soon. The sustain resonates so well. Maybe better than my pricey fretless. I'm really into the mahogany body. Mine came with the intonation setup perfectly. It shipped detuned as it should've. All I did was stretch the string and tune it. Man do these electronics shine. I've got to spend some more time really learning the controls but I was able to dial in a few tones I wanted to try immediately. My first impression of the strings is that they really suck. Maybe that's true but they do play well and they're not dead but I bought a set of my favorite strings that I'll get on when I get sick of these. Overall I got a lot more bass than I expected for the money. A beginner could really grow into this and more advanced players should be quite satisfied.

Excellent kit!

Decided to take a punt on this after reading many positive reviews. I'm glad to be able to add to those positives now. Although a 'beginner' I did play many years ago and still have my old BC Rich. When I decided to pick it up again, it just wasn't right. The Yamaha however feels just awesome and for the price, it's a no brainer. Comfortable, relatively light, and with a fantastic action. Would not hesitate in recommending this instrument.

Great bassguitar for this price. Plays very light and sounds great, i use it next to my Fender Precision Base. In some test people complaint about missing treble but i have no problem with the sound. Adjustment of the sound is easy to do on the Bassguitar with different presets. Value for money, Yamaha builds solid products for a reasonable price. Happy with my purchase.

Great first bass

Bought this a few months ago as I fancied learning bass during lockdown, and didn't want to review until I was somewhat more competent.Overall, I love it. I'll add that I haven't played many other brands or models for comparison, but it feel's "right" in my hands - weight and size are nicely balanced. You'll want to get the action adjusted if it's anything like mine. The marking of the switch between styles and the adjusters for volume etc is possibly my only annoyance with this guitar - it's got the different styles marked on a piece of transparent plastic that's loose and can rattle around. I'll no doubt keep this bass for a long time, so I may engrave the writing and get rid of the plastic.Really happy with the purchase, sounds great - even better now it's ... MoreBought this a few months ago as I fancied learning bass during lockdown, and didn't want to review until I was somewhat more competent.Overall, I love it. Great... Love the feel and would buy it again

I like the weight and balance of the TRBX505. I tried several other basses before this one and like the features and sound of this one best. I especially like the ability to play it as either passive or active... and that the passive apparently is truly passive. I have had it for couple of months and have already had the battery die, no trouble...plays fine in the passive mode. I need to mention the one thing I didn't realize is that you need to unplug the cord from it when not in use or the circuitry apparently will cause the battery to continue to slowly drain. Great right out the box, string height good, intonation good, love the feel of it/neck great for me. I might mention that I play several other instruments (including guitar) but owning a bass is new to me. ... MoreI like the weight and balance of the TRBX505. My first bass guitar
24 March 2022

It's my first bass guitar so I may be a little biased but all I gotta say is that at this price mark you are getting a professional guitar. For me it ticks all the boxes: great price, killer looks, playability, craftsmanship (especially neck and frets), versatility (both active and passive pickup configuration), sexy sleek design. I mean there is really nothing bad to say about this guitar even if I wanted to be picky. So overall, my best buy for a long time. Thank you everybody at Yamaha for creating this baby and DV247 to ship it so fast. It reached me in 5 days and was £80 cheaper than UK online retailers. Cheers!

Contacted the team for a recommendation giving them basic requirements. They replied speedily, found exactly what we were looking for. Treatment when picking up was excellent, polite.A coffee area would be nice in the shop to relish the atmosphere a bit longer.

Very Impressed

I have played Yamaha's in the past and was looking for a new 5 string bass that wasn't too heavy . This one came in at 8.6lbs, which is the same as my 4 string Fender Jazz bass. My 5 string Fender Jazz bass was 14.5lbs.Whether sitting or standing using a strap the balance is good and overall the bass feels comfortable and easy to play. This bass looks good. The finish is a lot less orange than in the pictures and the satin neck feels comfortable and easy to play. The frets had been dressed properly with no rough edges and the medium frets make slides and glissandos smooth. One of the attractions on this bass is the active/passive switch. I'm not a fan of active electronics as they can often sound harsh but actually on this bass the actives sound fine. My choice is to only use the bass in passive mode and, with no battery installed, use the active/passive switch as a mute switch which works well.It needed some setup on arrival which I did after changing the strings to slightly lighter Elite Players. Once the setup was done everything was fine.I now have a lightweight, versatile bass that plays well and sounds excellent. Very impressed.

Yamaha TRBX305 Bass Guitar from DV247 Music Store

The Yamaha TRBX305 Bass Guitar itself:There is nothing to fault this guitar - particularly at this price point. It is beautifully finished and constructed and infinitley playable with no set up needed - right out of the box. Whilst it lacks a dedicated 'mid' tone control there is plenty of tonal variation available to suit all styles, especially given the novel five way eq toggle switch. Personally I bought this for recording purposes and prefer to leave things pretty flat and post eq in the mix. I dont think I would have any difficulty getting this to cut in a live situation on the fly though. If you are in any way doubtful of this instrument in terms of tone, purpose or playability - don't be. I reckon its a good work horse that will satisfy most general bass ... MoreThe Yamaha TRBX305 Bass Guitar itself:There is nothing to fault this guitar - particularly at this price point. If you are a pro - just looking for a five string for a change, you won't be disappointed. AND - look how much it costs!? Really, its a no brainer. Why not buy two, - one for evening and the other for day wear.DV247 Music Store:I searched high and low for this instrument - a lot of suppliers were constantly out of stock. They also had it priced at least £50 above what I paid with DV247 Music Store. When I placed the order I hadn't realised the guitar would ship from Germany, but it did. It arrived in good time non-the less and in a factory sealed box, all snug perfect and shiny. Great value DV247 Music Store, and great service. I would recommend them to anyone. Thank you.

First, I saw it in a shop just out of the corner of my eye and it grabbed my attention. So, I am usually not a fan of Yamaha, holding this bass in my hands convinced me in seconds I found it easy to play because of the neck form, which is curved asymmetrical, giving a good grip for my thumb. The when the seller passed me the cable to a very cheap amp, I was immediately sure that this is an exceptional bass guitar for a good price. As I am also not a fan of active electronic, the possibility to switch between active and passive is well done, and when during a concert your battery gives up, there is no big problem to switch to passive and change the battery before the next song.I love to take this bass when I do not know what the meeting with other musicians is ... MoreFirst, I saw it in a shop just out of the corner of my eye and it grabbed my attention. Meanwhile I am used to the thin grey matt painting and somehow, I started liking it. It makes the bass looking just different from any other.Try it! I also think that the bass is worth each penny.
