Blended whisky, led by Suntory Whisky, was in its prime in Japan at the start of the 1980s. Despite that fact, Suntory Whisky had already begun looking ahead to the future in search for an answer. One that would come in the form of a 100% malt whisky. It was released to celebrate Yamazaki Distillery's 60th anniversary in 1984. Yamazaki not only became the No.1 single malt whisky in Japan, but has also become an icon in more than thirty-five countries. Yamazaki laid the groundwork for a new era that required long-term maturing of premium whiskies. Spiritual and deep, its signature multi-layered taste is highly praised by whisky connoisseurs all over the world.
