Amazing Cooler!

They discontinued it on the yeti site which was a pain and thought I’d buy it on here since I found it in the exact color I wanted. I’ve used this cooler a few times now and so far it’s been super easy to fill, clean out, and store. It isn’t too heavy and very spacious. I’m able to fit in 6 regular sized cans, some snacks, and my thin yeti ice easily! There’s always room for more. I’ve been using it for day trips so nothing too heavy. The few times it’s been dirty, the material is easy to rinse off with a hose. The zipper is a bit stiff at first but that’s expected since it has a built in water seal. I ordered this for a Christmas gift. It shipped in a timely manner, received it, wrapped it and put it under the tree. It was opened on Christmas morning and it was the wrong color! The outside of the box said Navy, but the cooler was charcoal. I bought it to match the recipient's hardside cooler. The exchange was easy enough, but it took nearly three weeks to get the replacement cooler in the correct color. Now that I received it, I have to ship it to the original recipient and their gift is now 4 weeks late. I know, first world problem, but frustrating nonetheless.

I purchased this about a month ago and the usefulness has been minimall. I had higher hopes for this but the interior dimension are weird making it difficult to get a good stack of food / drinks and make reasonable use of the space. It's good for the beach but realistically this wouldn't be taken further than that kind of walk. You wouldn't want to take this on a long walk or hike for a picnic. By the time it's loaded out with drinks, food, and enough ice it's very heavy and the shoulder straps don't help with the load much. I would have expected better shoulder straps and a breatheable back area if they expected it to be carried any distance. With this right against your back there's no ventilation and it just starts to get insanely hot drenching everything in ... MoreI purchased this about a month ago and the usefulness has been minimall. With this right against your back there's no ventilation and it just starts to get insanely hot drenching everything in sweat. I don't understand how they could design this without a ventilated back area, especially given the weight they show people trekking through the forest with. The waist belt it comes with is nice in theory but the difference with it on is negligible. When it's not fastened it'll just swing and annoy, so you'll end up not using it at all. Also, the loops on the outside will just annoy you too. If it was molle loops you could at least attach useful things to the outside, but they're not so they're just there to look pretty and provide limited use (this is extremely frustrating). It kept things cold but not the drastically colder you think of when you use a rotomolded cooler. Even pre-chilling the bag with a sacrificial bag of ice produced limited results. If I'm taking this bag with the bad shoulder straps and no ventilated back on a long walk somewhere at they very least at least make it worth it by keeping things so brutally cold inside that I can accept the carrying design flaws. I can't say that the difference between using this on a hike to a picnic was that much different than just packing a bunch of ice into a cooler bag and stuffing that in my pack. For me the pack would have at least been lighter and more comfortable when I dumped the ice and the food / drinks were consumed. This is a "premium" product and I don't feel like I own one. I can't say I'm better off with owning this so I hope that others keep that in mind when looking for a product to fit this niche. I'm not sure anything exists right now, but in it's current form I can't recommend this product unless quite a few changes are made to it.

Great Cooler, could use a few features.

If you are looking for a no frills cooler that keeps your drinks cold, look no further. This thing will hold enough for a day at the beach or pool, but don’t go looking to put too much into it. With ice (I bought the 4lb Yeti ice and it fits perfectly in the bottom, you can fit about 12-15 “beverages” into the cooler with a little room on top for either more ice packs or some snacks. That’s the extent of it. There is nowhere to put your phone, keys, wallet etc. I know Yeti also makes an accessory pouch called the Sidekick Dry, but it has been out of stock everywhere for months, so don’t count on finding one anytime soon. That being said, the cooler does what it is supposed to do, it is comfortable to carry and has handles everywhere. One additional note, if you ... MoreIf you are looking for a no frills cooler that keeps your drinks cold, look no further. The zipper is very hard to pull (I know it’s to keep the cooler leakproof), but my kids (9 and 12) cannot open it. At least they tell me they can’t when they ask me to do it for them.Anyway, good cooler, not great, but good. It does what they say, it says Yeti on it, so you can impress your friends with the fact you spent 300.00 on a cooler. Pretty much if you’re reading these reviews, you’re going to buy it anyway, because if you didn’t dismiss the fact that it’s a 300.00 small soft sided cooler, you’ve got the money to spend and my review isn’t going to sway you one way or the other.

Great for bottle shares and everything else

I bought this cooler primarily for attending meetups with my craft beer group. My old cooler simply wasn't big enough and I'd always forget to bring my bottle opener with me.The backflip 24 addresses these concerns and then some. I have much more room for packing beer and ice now and the backpack setup makes transporting large quantities of booze very simple. The hitchpoint system allows me to attach my 36oz rambler via the bottle sling I purchased previously. I'm always being reminded to hydrate while drinking so having a huge bottle of water right there makes it much easier. I also purchased the Molle Zinger and attached it to the hitchpoint system. No more forgetting a bottle opener. I was disappointed to find out that it doesn't quite fit flat at the bottom but it comes very close...close enough to keep using it. My first time out with it (with no ice) the 4lb yeti ice kept my beer cold all night. The backpack is versatile. Take it camping or to a friend's house. Pack lunch in it or load up on beer. Doesn't matter, it'll work every time.

Lip Balm?
11 January 2022

I bought this cooler as a Christmas gift for my husband. I figured it was the perfect gift to give him that I could steal. Who doesn't love giving gifts like that? We also love Yeti products and yet to have a cooler so I was super excited! My husband opened the gift and was extremely excited! He unzipped the zipper and talked about how many beers the cooler can hold, how it will be perfect for road trips and tournaments, how excited he was to show it off to the Dad's in the parking lot before the kids hockey games etc. As he was talking he pulls out the sticker and the white "lip balm" he mentioned that he had no idea Yeti made lip balm and thought it was a nice gift to offer. He then puts the cap on and turns the "lip balm" around and reads out loud, Zipper Lubricant. Our entire family had tears running down our faces from laughter. Not only is this cooler amazing, keeping our drinks and items cold for a few days it also made the best Christmas gift with tons of laughter.

Saved the Day
17 November 2021

I bought this cooler to take on vacation to Mexico and to bring fish home to the USA. My husband and I used this daily on our trip and it exceeded expectations! It is a perfect bag to carry on an airplane and meets the size requirements for Alaska Air.While on vacation we fished small boats will no storage for personal items. The Backflip kept our drinks cold even when sitting in the sun all day. The boat was a bit bloody and the cooler cleaned up easily. We experienced serious flight delays and got home a day later than planned. The Backflip 24 kept our fish frozen for 48 hours!!!!!Thank you for making our trip more comfortable and for keeping our fish frozen.

This is now my go to soft cooler
2 June 2020

I own a number of the soft coolers (hopper 8 & 12, and the original Hopper 40) and really love them all but this backflip is seriously the best execution of a soft cooler. The 8 & 12 have their place - a larger lunch box, snacks and a couple of drinks for the kids after a short day hike, a six pack or so in the golf cart. The hopper 40 is amazing because it just swallows everything you can put in it but it’s so beyond uncomfortable to throw on your shoulder and lug it any distance. Sure, the Backflip is about half the size but you can really pack it up and it is comfortable for serious distance and serious time. I’ve hiked a few miles into a creek and then another mile or so of a creek walk and back out after lunch and back/shoulders felt great. Then If I’m bringing some food, another 4lb Block followed by sandwiches/subs, chips, etc. This thing is now my go to for my family of four for a beach trip, day hike. It’s really fantastic. Absolutely worth it and I’m sure you’ll find yourself using it far more then you’re other soft coolers

Used daily for work

I'm a health nut. As a result I take home cooked food to work in various tupperware containers daily. Space needed for (3 water bottles, 2 yeti cups, 6 to 8 Tupperware dishes, snacks, etc). Individual containers for single servings for veggies, meat, fruit, carbs. I work 16 hours a day so I'm always prepared with my portions. I selected this for work daily due to the size allowing me adequate space & being a backpack not having to have excessive stress on one shoulder carrying my items the distance I walk to my office. It has been a conversation piece good & bad. The good is others like it and tell me how much beer they'd love to put in it and totally unware Yeti has a backpack. The bad that people that eat out or not focused on health feel it's overkill. I'm going on over 2 years using it daily and it still looks and functions as if it's brand new outside of a few stains. I honestly didn't expect it to last this long with daily use. On my days off I carry it with me due to it being my cooler/backpack. It is truly much more rugged than I ever expected. It hasn't frayed in the least bit. None of the components have failed and it remains standing nice and tall not loosing the contour though it's not a hard shell. I've not had one issue from the heavy duty zipper after 2 years of use 365 days a year I've attached other items to the outside for my personal hygiene and office supplies and it holds and carries very well. I'm truly impressed and truly satisfied with my purchase..

Way Overpriced- Moderate Usefulness
26 October 2021

So I originally got this bag because I wanted a cooler I could throw on my back while carrying other things to the campsite. The construction is fine: zipper does seem to be watertight and the straps feel good. The problem is you're paying $300 for the YETI name and with their soft coolers: there isn't that much improvement over a $30 walmart cooler bag, except perhaps that it's watertight. I did my best pre-cooling the cooler, using the large icepacks and plenty of ice, but ultimately it just did not hold ice anywhere near as would be desired paying that much for a cooler. Ultimately unless you have unlimited disposable income I would not recommend this at all.
