Yeti Hopper Flip 12 Soft Cooler Nordic Purple

Hopper Flip soft coolers are built to be leakproof and tough as nails. They're perfect for camping and able to withstand serious use outdoors. A wide mouth opening makes it easy to load and access your food and drinks. Its compact shape makes it more portable than hard coolers, and its high-density waterproof fabric is lighter than they are too. It's also resistant to mildew, punctures, and UV rays. The liner is made from an FDA-approved food grade material. The Hopper 12 fits 12 standard cans or roughly 7kg of ice. Perfect for camping or road tripping down country. Imagine an overengineered esky that's lighter and easier to carry. Or a harder working chilly bin with a zip and shoulder strap.

These coolers are only warrantied for 3 years. For the price, I would have expected more from Yeti. The insulation is mediocre at best. The zipper began for fail around year 3. I should have filed a warranty claim then. Now it’s year 5. The zipper is completely broken and the cooler is worthless. Disappointed in both REI and even more in Yeti for the poor build quality of this cooler. It will be the last Yeti product I ever purchase. Neither REI or Yeti are able to do anything about it. It’s a common issue if you look it up. This cooler has had minimal use and never abused. I’ll be shopping elsewhere from now on.

Great for float trips & car rides.

Holds in the cold
28 December 2022

I bought this bag over 4 years ago when I moved to Florida. It's I believe their first generation of the bag. It has a few issues I think they've fixed with the newer generations; however, it keeps things cold. I was one of the travelers with a certain airline that canceled my flight and lost my bag. I had packed some frozen steaks and chops for Christmas dinner. I put some frozen gell packs in with them and filled the bag with some clothes. Four days later, the airline finally recovered my bag. I was dreading opening and smelling my cooler. To my surprise the gell packs and meat were still frozen solid. This thing will keep your stuff cold!

Initially I was excited to be using this cooler. It was bought on sale for $200. It is constructed with quality materials, and that's about it.#1. The zipper. The zipper requires a substantial amount of strength to open and close. Good, right? That helps with keeping your items cold, no? No. The zipper essentially leaves 1" of your cooler open with no insulation whatsoever at all times. It compensates, by lots of insulation in all other areas, but the cooler could be much more efficient if this was resolved. There are coolers in the $50 price range that take this into consideration.#2. Accessories.Yeti Sidekick was discontinued. Yeah it's a little awkward to carry, even with the included shoulder strap, but what cooler isn't a little awkward to carry so I won't comment further on that."What else can I say? It's a YETI!". Yes it's a Yeti. Regarding what this actually is, and how much you pay for it, it also kinda sucks. My Yeti 65 serves its purpose well and I love it. I can justify the price I paid for it. Not the case for the Flip 12 though.I returned it and found another cooler to serve my needs better.

Unlike traditional hard coolers, the Hopper Flip 18's soft-sided design allows it to fit in tight spaces, making it ideal for kayaking, hiking, or simply tossing it in the back of your car.Temperature retention is where the Hopper Flip 18 truly shines. Unbelievable Cooler!
6 May 2023

Our son recently secured a job in Japan. In order to travel to Japan and stay for a year, he needed to take a large supply of medication that needed to be kept within a certain temperature range at all times. We started reading about how to protect the meds while traveling 25+ hours, and then staying weeks in a hotel while waiting for his assignment (so much info on the internet, but nothing we could count on). We used freezable silicone sandwich bags which could be easily configured around the meds (the bags could be filled with ice and reused numerous times) and a bluetooth thermometer to keep an eye on the temp thereby avoiding nervously opening the lid. It took several iterations of how much ice to use and how long the temp would hold, but eventually we got it right. The meds and “ice” fit perfectly and the proper temps were maintained for the 32 hours from Pennsylvania to Tokyo. After his arrival, our son put the meds in the hotel fridge and found that the fridge was actually less reliable than the Yeti!! Fast forward 10 weeks. Our son has moved to at least a half dozen different hotels and has relied each time on the Yeti to protect his expensive medication. Having the Yeti perform at this level has eased his (and our) mind and allowed him to enjoy his travel experience instead of constantly worrying about whether or not his meds are safe. We can’t thank Yeti enough for living up to the hype!!! Perhaps other travelers can learn from this experience. We are true believers!

Very Durable and well built
17 January 2023

If you are in the market for an incredible cooler that keeps your items cold for days then this cooler is the one. Although it is very expensive, it does function much better than the cheaper name brands out there. The ol’ saying “you get what you pay for…”. We use it every week for our families lunch and it serves its purpose well. The ice packs stay frozen all day after a full day inside the ski lodge. There is no doubt that the ice will last days as others have expressed in their reviews. We do leave it out in the garage the night before to get the cooler cool and climatized as suggested by Yeti. Very happy with the purchase. The only drawback is the Zipper is very hard to move. We did put the included grease on it but still find it stiff.

Very disappointing
25 November 2022

Reading all of these fabulous reviews here I was expecting great performance from this cooler, it was unfortunately anything but. The general construction is very nicely done but where it lacks is performance. First what should have been a warning sign in terms of the cooler holding temperature was a 1” gap between the lid insulation and the top of cooler around the perimeter where the zipper is. I can understand the desire for YETI to keep this area clear to avoid zipper snags etc. but this is a major design flaw. Using a laser temp gauge you can see the cold just begging to leave the entire perimeter of the zipper which will obviously also let external warm air heat the inside of the cooler. This cooler lasted 24 hours using the appropriate yeti ice blocks and I ... MoreReading all of these fabulous reviews here I was expecting great performance from this cooler, it was unfortunately anything but. This was done pre chilling the cooler and using YETI recommended ice ratio. This was while the cooler itself was never exposed to temperature greater than 70 degrees, pretty optimal conditions. It is very rare that those conditions will happen. I have used $5 white styrofoam coolers which have performed similarly if arguably not better. Bottom line is it not worth the money if you are expecting to keep anything cooled for more than a daytime outing.

Works for transporting refrigerated medicine
20 February 2023

We bought the 12 cooler for the purpose of transporting refrigerated medication on a trans Atlantic flight. I tested the cooler and ice packs weeks before departure and it worked extremely well when the removable liner was chilled in advance - it held 1 cup of water to 34-46F for 30 hours in ambient temperatures of 65-74F. I opened cooler 4 times to test the temperature and to mimic what might happen on the trip (if TSA opened cooler to inspect it).Our college aged son traveled to Europe for his study abroad with success - meds arrived safely. I opened cooler 4 times to test the temperature and to mimic what might happen on the trip (if TSA opened cooler to inspect it).Our college aged son traveled to Europe for his study abroad with success - meds arrived safely. Unfortunately his trip was cut short and he had to return prematurely. Given the limited fridge space in his dorm fridge, he could not cool the liner. Without a chilled liner, the cooler did not keep temps as low for as long- it stayed below 46F for about 16 hours. We used 5 frozen gel packs each time. We used the packs that his meds are shipped with from the specialty pharmacy. When I tested more than 5 gel packs or when I used other gel packs (Shock Coolers), the water we were using as a test solution froze; his meds cannot be frozen. But he could’ve used more than 5 packs when liner wasn’t pre-chilled.He had no trouble with any of the 3 airlines he used - he carried this cooler on as a carry bag and 12 cooler fit in the overhead compartments on Swiss Air, Helvetica Air, and Lufthansa. I did investigate if Swiss Air would not count this a carry on, but as medically necessary equipment (so he could bring a carry on bag as well), but Swiss Air said no, it qualified as a carry on. I didn’t bother asking the other airlines after that refusal.Hope this review helps anyone else who has to fly with refrigerated meds. We will keep this cooler to use on future trips or when the electricity fails and our fridge gets too warm, and I purchased a second cooler (the 8) when it was on sale. That smaller cooler will be for trips that are shorter in length (and therefore require less meds). Our son did say that the 12 got a little heavy to haul through multiple airports.
