It is a tea kettle, and it does sort of whistle. However the metal is quite thin, and it started discoloring / rusting / getting a couple of small holes in the metal within a week or two of use (not to the point of leaking), after I had only heated water in it. I'm wondering if in spite of its thinness if it might be plated stainless steel rather than fully stainless steel. It's also constructed of multiple parts with various grooves / curves on the inside which make cleaning difficult. Overall my impression is that the quality and general design is poor and I would not recommend this product.
