When I received the YSL Eau de Toilette VoxBox, I couldn't remember signing up for it. And the majority of the fragrance notes aren't along the lines of what I'd usually be drawn to or choose, as I lean towards warm and spicy (mostly gourmands), not fresh, citrus, green. But I love exploring new products, and always try to keep an open mind. My partner wore the YSL EDT for a few hours, and though it seemed a well-rounded fragrance, it tweaked my allergies enough that he took it off. This isn't abnormal as I tend to have reactions to some fragrances more than others, and find I do best with researching notes ahead of time and sampling before purchasing. His thoughts are below: "Yves Saint Laurent’s Eau De Toilette provides a crisp, clean fragrance. There’s a hint of lavender which I’m not usually fond of, but it’s combination with the aroma of earth incense gives the cologne a clean scent that reminds me of fresh rain in a pine forest. It might be a touch on the subdued, but for someone like me who doesn’t use much cologne it’s a perfect fit."

It's easy to mistake YSL's Y for another entry in the "almost Aventus but not quite" category, with its bergamot and mint opening, the pineapple and violet leaves in the middle, and a creamy white musk at the base, but this is a far more technical fragrance than the endless Adventus clones. The aldehydes in the opening give this a bright freshness, tempered with ginger, and the middle notes go green with sage and geranium, which gives it an unexpected depth. But the base is where the magic is, and that comes from a delicious, decadent combination of ambergris and incense. It's a morphing, complex drydown that goes from clean sunshine to the shadowy corners of a hidden temple. Not everyone's skin will play nicely with aldehydes or ambergris, which makes both ingredients bold choices for YSL. Definitely test this one repeatedly before committing. But if it works for you, it is a beast, with excellent staying power and enough throw to turn heads with the sillage. On me, it's sweet and the floral character of the geranium lingers until the warmth of the incense, amber, and ambergris take over, especially in warm weather. On my husband, it goes straight for ginger, incense, and vetiver, all whilst dancing with the bergamot and aldehydes. It's a good cologne on me. On him, it's wickedly brilliant. That's the beauty of Y: it's an art of chemistry, and it becomes very much one's own. It's worth a try, and if it's magic on you, worth the pricetag, too.

I recently grabbed a bottle of YSL Y EDP and really like the fragrance. First off, it is clean and versatile. You can wear this at any time of the year, any time of the day, and for every occasion. While the apple note can be divisive amongst fragrance fans, I find it is appealing. That citrusy and fruity open, that line of fresh herbs, and sweet woody dry down can be exhilarating. I find it targeted more towards a more 'mature' wearer and is a worthy alternative to Bleu de Chanel or Dior Sauvage for a fresh, blue scent. I do wish it had a bit of a lighter touch, something more watery, as I'd like this to be an everyday fragrance because sometimes I find the herby fresh notes a bit overpowering at times. It would just add that little extra touch to make Y EDP stand out as the true value king. These are really small things that prevent this from being a 5 star

I'm a huge fan of the EDP. I actually bought it as a blind buy awhile back and it's probably one of the best blind buys I've ever made on a fragrance. That, Bleu De Chanel and Sauvage are probably my most complimented scents. The EDT came as a free sample with my EDP. I don't wear it much because it's a dabber and not a spray and a can't stand fragrances that aren't a spray. With that said, the EDT still smells amazing. It's the slightly fresher/clean scent to the EDP. It feels more like something you'd put on at night after a shower or to bed to seduce your significant other. The EDP is slightly more professional and in your face (in the best of ways). I would most definitely buy the EDT, but I think if I had to own one it would be the EDP. It's been too good to me to tone it back to the EDT, but they're both simply amazing with just slight differences. You can't go wrong with either. I would highly suggest grabbing anything from the Y line if you're so inclined to do so. You won't regret it.

YSL Y, the fragrance by Yves Saint Laurent, is a modern and youthful scent that strikes a balance between freshness and masculinity. This fragrance opens with a burst of citrus notes, primarily bergamot and lemon, which immediately invigorate the senses. is a superstar that gets a lot of hype that is completely warranted. It opens with a sweet and inviting scent that comes from an almost candied apple and ginger combination. It projects very well without being too clawing or overbearing. This pleasantly sweet opening stays throughout the life of the fragrance and comes off very clean and fresh smelling. My girlfriend loved the smell and could not stop complimenting me and smelling throughout the night. Definitely a great date night or evening out scent, wouldn't recommend formally or during the day / at the office. This is a sensual scent and it isnt afraid to make itself known. A must have for any man trying to make a good impression on the ladies, you cannot go wrong with this one, just make sure not to overspray. This lasts long, well over 8 hours on my skin and I could still smell it on my jacket in the morning. For seasons this can work in all seasons but would probably shine the most in spring and summer because of its fruit and fresh vibrance. Overall a great scent that is well blended, unique, long lasting, and sexy. Well earned 5 stars.

Opening is very basic scent, no alcohol picked up surprisingly. Notes of green Apple, Bergamot, Spicy Ginger come into play. Surprisingly i do get the note of Ambergris, but i don't understand how they could add the real thing as it's so insanely expensive, but whatever they are using that note is nice, it makes the dna go 'airy' with a slight weird mature note that Ambergris is famously known for, reminds me of the same Ambergris found in YSL's Tuxedo. Synthetic Mint Lemon notes then appears. Then Aldehydes, that make the fragrance mature elegant. A touch of white musk found in Aventus. Very very light floral that im not familiar with, to create layers while maintaining a masculine vibe. Violet leaves give it a very strong distinct scent to it's dna. Something just slightly creamy in the background to calm all the other notes down. I do get the note of pineapple, but im not sure if it's actually added with the White Musk or if it's just the olfactory playing tricks on me. Sage to make it aromatic. The smallest touch of Incense to give it slight smokiness, creating another layer to the dna. Mid all the notes start to meld together to give it's final dna scent, and goes on the candy sweeter side. The nose perfumer is VERY technical here and is really talented this note combo using all these ingredients, but also make them work together. The problem with this fragrance is that becomes strongly synthetically cloying in the end dry-off, and i eventually i couldn't handle it anymore and had to wash it off - twice! I think this is a good dna scent actually, it just needed to be made with quality ingredients. It does a good job for the fresh/minty-lemon/white musk genre. Think Versace Eros + Creed Aventus had a baby with YSL's style of perfumery. This is so strong on 4 sprays im sure it will last min. 6+ hours

It is an incredibly sexy scent and actually quite masculine despite it being sweet. It smells like a clean and refined gentleman who is in touch with his playful side.

Fresh scent with depth, leans masculine but works
25 June 2022

This cologne has a clean scent but also has depth. The scent is very fresh when first sprayed, and dries down to be a bit spicy and warm without being overpowering. I sprayed this cologne on my boyfriend, but also decided to test it on myself. On me the geranium notes are more noticeable when it was first sprayed, while on my boyfriend the lavender came through stronger. On both of us it dried down to a scent that was equal parts amber and spice with hints of sage and a very slight woody note. On my boyfriend, this dry down was a little bit more fresh while on me it smelled a bit darker. It took using this cologne a few times to be able to pick out the different notes, the scent notes blend together very cohesively. This scent is reminiscent of the smell when you ... MoreThis cologne has a clean scent but also has depth. I think this makes this cologne a “safer” choice to blind buy or buy as a gift if that’s what you’re looking for. (Though I do suggest testing it first if possible, since the scent developed a bit differently on different body chemistry.) While this fragrance leans more masculine, I think it can work well as a unisex scent if it has notes you enjoy.
