I needed to paint the back of a vanity cabinet with mold-killing paint before my contractor put it in place against a bathroom wall. Since I am a Walmart+ member, I try to buy from Walmart. What a mistake! The Zinsser quart of paint arrived yesterday and I needed to paint the cabinet immediately so we could get back the use of our bathroom sink; however, when I opened the can, it was a dried up hunk of paint. It was like a ball of rubber. I could not even stir it. Since I told a contractor the back of the cabinet would be finished for him to set it the next day, I had to make a trip to a home improvement store where they were out of quarts of the paint. I abhor the styrofoam particles that builders put on ceilings. Even though the paint was thicker, and I used the proper thick roller, i was covered with styrofoam particles and paint when i was done. In hindsight maybe removing the particles would have been easier, but I'll never find out. The coverage was not perfect, but it looks much better than the mold did. I had originally planned to only paint the moldy areas but of course the color of the paint is not the same color as the rest of the paint (from 1960) so I had to do all 10x12 of it. I'm actually shocked that it covered as well as it did. It's only been a week so I can't really speak to what might happen in the future but since the leak was fixed years ago as long as no other leaks happen, I'm believing that ... MoreI abhor the styrofoam particles that builders put on ceilings. I bought this 5 gallon primer and used some of it. I went to use it today, 5 months later and it had lots of mold spots in it. Without thinking, I mixed the primer as I was still going to use it, but realized it may not be safe. What a waste of over $200 dollars! I do not recommend. It obviously does not work to kill mold if it is growing mold within itself. Unfortunately I did not take a picture, but I will see if the mold resurfaces in the primer and then take & upload a picture. Such a waste!

Mold killer, not a stain blocker.

Have used the "K" brand in the past only to find out it should not be painted over mold. Its only for preventing future mold/mildew. So I tried this "Z" brand mold killer. For mold killing, it does the job. I still cleaned the loose mold with a bleach blend cleaner first, but then went to the mold killing paint once the walls were nice and dry. Goes on pretty thick, but does not really cover. Old light colored paint and remaining mold stains still show through. But I didn't really buy this as a one coat cover. You will need multiple coats or go ahead and paint over this with a good one coat primer. If you are working with an old house that has had prior water/moisture leaks, this is great stuff. But again, will need a better primer before painting your final color ... MoreHave used the "K" brand in the past only to find out it should not be painted over mold. Please do not buy.
26 June 2024

Please do not make the mistake and buy. I bought two gallons and painted every inch of my room. The second I began applying a top coat of paint the product began bubbling and peeling. I spent weeks prepping and now with a baby here in just days I am mortified and defeated. Do your research because apparently this is a more common issue for this product than I had known.

Really great for bathroom ceiling
31 December 2023

Our house is old and has 7-ft tall ceilings, which causes moisture issues in the shower. This stuff was great covering the existing mildew/mold on the first coat. I also used on some brown water stains from where our roof was leaking. Unfortunately it didn’t cover those spots even after 2 coats, but for the mold/mildew coverage, I would most certainly recommend.

What a mess.
8 August 2024

When you ship a can of primer in a thin plastic mailer, you’re obviously a risk-taker. When you do that without even wrapping it in bubble wrap or other protective material, you clearly don’t give a care. You don’t care that it might leak and damage shipping equipment. You don’t care that the customer needed the item for an urgent home repair. And you certainly don’t care that upon opening the package, I got mold killing primer on my hands and clothing. Now, I’m told to either bring it to a local Walmart store or re-package for FedEx, either option requiring me to clean up your mess first. While I’m tempted to tape up your plastic mailer and send you the leaking mess the way I received it, I actually care about the FedEx driver and your warehouse worker who will ... MoreWhen you ship a can of primer in a thin plastic mailer, you’re obviously a risk-taker. That’s not what happened here. The takeaway for you is that if you’re not allowing your workers sufficient time to package properly, then you don’t care about them much either.

Worth the cost and time
30 June 2024

I found some mold/mildew inside the walls during a bathroom renovation. The walls were the backside of the adjacent room so I could not remove the plaster. Since the bathroom was down to the studs, I painted the backside of the plaster and gave each wall stud a coat as well. The product is much thinner than standard primer or paint and soaked into the plaster and studs giving it a preventative coating before installing new purple drywall for the bathroom.

Would've been nice IF they sent the RIGHT ITEMS!
9 November 2023

Am overly irritated that they keep getting my order WRONG! They instead, sent me a case of spray bottles of GEL RUST REMOVER - that will no doubt COST ME MORE $ BC THEIR VALUE IS LESS THAN THE 2-PACK 1 GAL MOLD PAINT WHEN I GO TO RETURN THEIR MISTAKE. Should I even mention the price of this 2-pk paint has also had its PRICE INCREASED BY NEARLY $20 MORE PER GAL.... When I called to report the mistake, I ordered again & not only lost my initial coupon used the 1st time, but is also NOW MIA w no way of tracking bc it's NOT SHOWING UP IN MY ACCT ORDERS! WT HECK LOWES?!

I see some people expecting some great do all primer especially without any prep work ..1) this is a primer to “kill” mold yes and you can paint directly over mold .( i would still clean and dry the the mold with an approprate cleaner such as TSP/Borax)2) this is not a high hide primer it will not generally cover up stains on one coat (zinsser makes a high hide primer you will have to use that to cover up stains. Or3) Zinsser also makes a “perma wite” (still tintable) and also “mold and mildew proof” high hide self priming paint. ( this will take 2 coats if you do not prime i HIGHLY recommend you always prime but especially in this case since the “mold killing” aspect of the paint and primer last only 5 years )* prep work involves more than just cleaning, make sure you peel off (scrape” any paint that is bubbeling or peeling (do not force it off bad paint will peel off easily and if it was really bad will sometimes peel off in sheets) once you are done peeling any bad paint if you have exposed or damged drywall (brown paper showing) you will have to buy a sealer and seal that brown paper then prime then paint (zinsser makes a product for this as well)* i will be honest with you paint at LOWES is really good Shermain William /Valspar are owned together and show case and infinity (for interior) are a better top coat ... but they do not offer a “mold killing” paint ... but if you clean the mold and use the “mold killing primer” and then use valspar /sherman william paints you should get more color options ans a longer lasting product.* Remeber guys : eggshell (matte finish) although looks nice is not resilent to moisture .. if you want yiur paint to hold up in a bathroom/kitchen use a Semi gloss .. the higher the gloss the better it holds up to moisture ... Satin is right in the middle with shine (some people do not like the shineod semi gloss)
