Zone3 Heat Tech Neoprene Swim Cap - Black/Silver/Red

Any open water swimmer who has experienced water temperatures below 15 degrees will know what Zone3 is talking about when they recommend cold protection for the head. The Heat-Tech neoprene hood not only keeps cold water away from your head, but also warms your body with additional fleece insulation. Of course it does not hinder swimming, but fits perfectly into the overall system. With the Velcro, the chin strap can be individually adjusted. You should wear the Heat-Tech neoprene hood so that the strap fits tightly but at the same time you can still open your mouth completely. Different sizes PLUS the adjustable chin strap make the Heat-Tech neoprene hood a feature you should not miss.

Brain freeze gone.

Eradicated the brain freeze I was experiencing when temps dropped this winter. And so couldn't have kept through the winter without it. I have a lot of hair and so think perhaps I should have got the large as it often comes out. But when it was extra cold I wore a swim cap under which helped with the hair issue. A lot of my swim group have this hat now as it's the best for icy cold winter water. The Velcro is comfortable and it feels very secure.

Good Experience!

Unlike the high-tech gloves and hat which Zone 3 kindly asked me to review, the wearing of a neoprene hat was to be a new experience for me and what an experience – they are super cosy! The size was perfect and the 4mm neoprene and gorgeous fleecy lining kept my head & ears toasty. I have short hair but my daughter who has very long hair and wears it tied up for swimming thought the adjustable Velcro was perfect as it accommodated those with lots of hair without going up a head size. Very comfortable and remained in place whilst swimming – I'm tempted to keep it on. With high-tech gloves, boots and hat winter swimming will never be the same again!

I was gifted this swim cap in exchange for a review. I don't usually wear a swim cap as I'm more of a heads-up, woolly hat, breast-stroke swimmer but on trying out this cap I was tempted out of my comfort zone. I opted for the medium cap, as per the size guide, and found it to be a snug and comfortable fit without feeling tight. It was simple to put on and take off due to the velcro-type fastening. I expected the chin strap to feel restrictive but it wasn't at all. The lining feels really cosy and my head remained warm throughout a 12 minute swim in 5 degree water. As with the gloves and socks I plan to take this cap for a longer (wetsuit) swim to put its heat retention ability further to the test. Neoprene Heat-tech Swimming Cap Zone3
22 November 2021

In terms of customer service, Sigma Sports was superb. I ordered a wrong size and the return was organised without any issues, though I do not have an access to a printer. In respect of the Zone3 swimming cap, I have not had a chance to use it yet. M size was somehow too short because I have long hair and the L size is too big for me. So had to get latex bubble cap and hope that'll work. I did contact Zone3 re sizes and they tried explaining their sizes but I did not find their size table particularly helpful. Still it looks and feels like a good quality cap.

Really effective
26 March 2022

I have not worn a neoprene swim cap before and didn't know what to expect from it when I tried it out in the 9 degree sea in late March. I was impressed with how well it kept my skull warm in the sea. It felt quite a surprise at first that my face was so much colder than the rest of my head, but I soon got used to that. Overall I swam for 25 minutes and it felt really comfortable. I didn't have any trouble putting it on, the fit was good and the Velcro strap held together firmly. It took a bit of getting used to not being able to hear all that clearly but my ears were well protected from the cold water. Overall a good experience and it really worked.

Surprisingly good
29 March 2022

Zone 3 very kindly gifted me heat-tech hat, gloves & boots in exchange for a review. So, i NEVER wear neoprene swim caps during winter swims, its generally 2 silicone hats, however, i gave it a bash. Really easy to put on, & secure, given the velcro strap. I chose size small, as i have a bit of a pea-head!!? (54cm circumference) & it was perfect fit. The hat REALLY keeps your head warm, of course, the obligatory ice-cream headache was very much present, but, thats to be expected, as your face is in the water. I did a bit of backstroke, & my head was super toasty. It keeps your ears warm too! I expected the chin strap to be uncomfortable (another reason i don't usually wear them), however, i was quite impressed as i forgot about it whilst i was swimming. I think that may be down to the fact that its a velcro fastening rather than an integral chin strap, so you can adjust for comfort. During swimming it remained secure & snug against my head. Great product, & may be tempted to rod off my silicone hats & go heat-tech neoprene!!

Warm Head - Fab!
22 March 2022

The cap arrived promptly and in recyclable packaging - always a good start! I had ordered a medium size based on the size guide and this was just right - a snug fit without being too tight anywhere The cap is well put together and the adjustable Velcro on the chin strap is a great idea, love the soft interior lining which feels really snuggly around the head I was worried that the chin strap would be annoying in the water but it's so soft that I barely noticed it whilst swimming which was a pleasant surprise The cap kept my head warm and snug through a Front Crawl swim in 9 degree water (in the UK in late March) and I look forward to trying it in much colder water next winter to see if it helps me stick with FC longer through the season before I have to revert to ... MoreThe cap arrived promptly and in recyclable packaging - always a good start! Overall I'm really pleased with it and it's certainly changed my view of caps with chin straps which I've always avoided in the past! Would definitely recommend

What a difference!
29 March 2022

My first experience of using a neoprene hat so I don't have another brand or model to compare with this one. As a regular open water swimmer and coach I've always worn a silicon hat or occasionally 2 in winter. I also use ear plugs. I find silicon caps ride up a bit over my ears so am always trying to tug them down to keep ear plugs in and water out. Using the size guide I went for the medium which fitted well, especially with the chin strap. It was very comfortable and the difference in warmth was considerable. My head was so cosy and I felt it may benefit rewarming too. The strap also helped keep ear plug secure and my ears felt cosier too! I'm a definite convert!

It was a present. It fits. I have no intention of going into water cold enough to require it's use. However the resipient seems to like it. It's black. Seems to me a brighter colour would be more easily seen in open water.

Zone3 Neoprene Swim Cap L
20 May 2021

I wanted to get into open water swimming but was worried about getting ear infections as I have a perforated eardrum along with other ear complications. I have tried all types of swimming hats and earplugs over the years and still found I get water in my ears. That was until I recently purchased a Zone3 Neoprene swim cap from Mike’s Dive Store. I use this cap together with Mack’s Pillow Soft Silicone putty earplugs. Now I can swim with the confidence that my ears are totally protected. The cap is very comfortable and keeps everything in place and it also keeps my head warm during my early morning chilly swims. This was my first purchase from Mike’s Dive Store. I am very glad I found them. Excellent customer service and their courier service was great too. 10/10
