One review said the Zoom Podtrak p-8 only sampled at 24khz. That is untrue. It is 44.1khz which is cd quality. Plenty enough for podcasting. It also has far superior preamps to the Rodecaster. Both are fine pieces of equipment. But as with most things, there is always a tradeoff choosing one unit or the other.

I've been looking/waiting for this P8 for a few months now and it has not disappointed. I had a Yamaha MG10XU and it was a mess to do exactly what the P8 does. Out of the box we made our first test recording within minutes. This thing is definitely built for podcasting. It took longer to uncoil the mic cables than it did to set up the unit. I am gobsmacked. The only functionality I wish it had was built in effects. If had built in effects I could finally retire the Yamaha mixer.
I can not express how glad I that I decided to go with the ZOOM Podtrak P8! I have not been able to stop playing with it. The ease I was able to import my custom samples and .wav files into the sound pad banks really impressed me. It converts your .mp3s into .wav for you. You can edit your recordings on the fly! With the Bluetooth adapter, taking calls, remote guest and interviews is almost as if the person is sitting right next to you! It couldn't be any easier to start a podcast! I absolutely love it!!
Small board but operates like a monster . Able to record as fast as i set up . Be sure to grab a big SD Card and Rechargeable Batteries unless u use it USB Power with your laptop. Able to Run 6 Mics , and able to do Facetime Calls Via the Bluetooth Adapter (sold separately). If the person on the other end is using a Condenser Mic they sound as if they are in the room with you . Setting up the sound effects was easy , im able to run the imaging for my show during an interview with no problem minimizing editing . Defiantly worth investing if you run a podcast or do live interviews you want to record for later .

The H6 is great for remote podcasts and it's simple to travel but you need so much more if you want to do remote podcasts. I wish the Zoom Podtrak P8 was available 4 years ago when we started our podcast. While I can't compare it to other models or brands, it's easy to use and set up. I didn't read any instructions and was up and running in minutes. It's very intuitive and I love the layout. I may still keep it for remote type of set ups. Then again, I may just end up selling it down the road if I don't find that I need it as much.

I have had P8 for a few months and highly recommend it. My favorite feature is the six mic and headphone inputs. There is also the ability to manage each of the recorded channels individually in the mix, and makes editing less time consuming. The built in sound effects are great and you can add your own as well. The P8 is amazingly easy to use. Set it up in minutes and started recording and sounding professional since! Buy one now!!!!!
I bought this, and the Roadcaster Pro. This is TOUTED as more user friendly, and has some great quality of life features, but Roadcaster has higher bitrate and double the frequency rate. This is 16 bit 24kHz, and the Rodecaster is 24bit 48kHz. Also, when used as a USB based mixer this only mixes two channels maximum, Rodecaster can mix 4 over USB. This doesn't have built in bluetooth and the module isn't cheap. This is all plastic, and cheap feeling plastic. Rode's a lot of metal.Where this wins out, is it has more vocal modifiers, one more customised pad, the ability to run this off (for a short time) batteries, also needs less power to run it. So, if you're making a more Whacky podcast or production, then the extended pitch and voice modifiers this offers might be up your ally. I do like that this has 6xlr inputs and 6 3.5mm TRS outputs, where Rode thinks 4's more than enough, also the dials on these are color coded and right by the inputs. As I said, this has more quality of life features, but this is more intermediate in output quality, you're going to need to run this through Audacity, Reaper, ProTools, Audition, or whatever your software of choice is. Especially at 16bits 24kHz.Conclusion, this is a great beginner, sub-pro and sub-prosumer piece of kit for a lot of money. A cheaper alternative if you're married to Zoom is the PodTrak P4, that's something to dip your toes into at $200. Limits the features a bit, but is nearly pocketable. Rodecaster is more Prosumer, and is why I would recommend them more. I run a mature podcast, so I don't need the larger effects and sound effects library. Though, to be honest I'd take full SD over microSD of the Rodcaster. Though, realistically, you shouldn't need anything above a V30 grade SD card for this device, even running all 8 channels at 16bit 24kHz PCM recording format. Also, this guy out of the box is set up to do phone calls and neat things with that, like letting one crewmember play phone screener, and give you onair messages that go through their headphones but not over the airwaves. I don't think Rodecaster can do that. I'm getting the Behringer XAir xr18 soon, to play with since who doesn't love options. This wasn't for me, might be for you. I'd pass on this. Zoom's recent line of products have had a weird quality drop in build and execution.
