Take field recording to the professional level with the SGH-6 shotgun capsule add-on for Zoom H6 handheld recorder. The SGH-6 is a professional-quality hyper-directional (that is, highly directional) microphone to the H6, making it the perfect audio recorder for anyone working in film, video or live theater, or for ENG (electronic news gathering) applications. Thanks to the three internal mics with digital signal processing ability, the SGH-6 achieves a frequency independent super-cardioid polar pattern. Compared to ordinary shotgun microphones using an acoustic tube method, the SGH-6 maintains a highly directional pickup at about half the length. Shotgun microphones are often used when cannot position a microphone directly in front of a sound source. For example, if someone is speaking in front of a video camera and don't want them to hold an interview microphone up to their mouth, the solution is to use an off-screen shotgun mic. However, shotgun mics are not the audio equivalent of a photographic telephoto lens. Even though they do an above-average job of picking up sounds that originate from a short distance away, they always sound better when they're physically close to the sound source. If the capsule is more than three feet away, the audio will start to sound distant. The farther away it is, the more distant and reverberant the audio will be.

ZOOM SGH-6 Shotgun Microphone Capsule for H5 and H6 Handy Recorders

I really did not need this mic but I purchased because of the price! I actually used it to record my drums at a live recording Saturday for the church. I was not expecting such a great sound. I have had this mic for a week. At the time of the recording, I had it for two days. This mic was not intended to be used as a drum mic, but I did and loved it.

Works okay but not the greatest boom from further distances. Works okay mounted directly on top of a camera with less handling noise than the other two included H6 mics. Seems to be a great mic for closer distances and mounted on a stagnant tripod. It can be a great tool as long as you are aware of its strengths and weaknesses

I am quite happy with the Zoom H5 and SGH-6 shotgun mic combination. I use them in the field for recording bird sounds. Their compact and integrated design makes it easier for me to carry and use them in the field along with other equipment such as cameras, spotting scope, and binoculars. My current challenge is to find a decent case for them which I can attach to my camera/binocular harness. The Zoom case for the H5 does not accommodate the length of the SGH-6, just the basic mic. While I may not be able to achieve the distance I might like with a parabolic mic, this combination is a good compromise considering the reasonable cost, compact size, and the light weight.

Great capsule for the Zoom range of recorders. A great upgrade from the standard XY capsule if you want to capture a voice from a slight distance and reject ambient sound. In particular it works well outdoors, indoors, like all other shotgun mics, it can tend to pick up reflections and reverb from interior walls. Especially good for filming when talking direct to camera.
I use my Zoom H6 a lot for studio and mobile filming. When it is time to unplug the studio mics and do run and gun or mobile recording this is the absolute best. Great focus for sound pick up to minimize surrounding noise. I usually just mount the H6 on the camera with this mic but at times I have mounted it all on a boom. Great quality and workmanship!
I love my ZOOM H6. I was shooting some red carpet interviews and shooting over the shoulders of other video guys from the networks. The sound was ok using the XY Microphone Module but I thought that the shotgun module would work even better..so I bought it. I used it today for a press preview of American Idiot were 15 singers onstage were miked and I was about 20 feet away with my GH3 and H6. I must say that the sound came out very bright, a little too bright. Maybe there are setting on the H6 to adjust that, but I don't know. Maybe I could fix it in Audition, but I haven't had time to find out. I am keeping the shotgun anyway just incase I need it in the future.
A great addition to your Zoom H5/H6 portable recording studio. A mono super-cardioid shotgun mic that does the job well enough
a half talentless clown manages to get amazing sound from it
This is a great mic to add to your H5 arsenal but I was dissapointed in the amount of background noise this picked up even when adjusting on the H5. Not as directional as I would like, still picking up more ambience than I would like.
Slow delivery. Its taken a week to get from vic to nsw and still has not arrived in Picton. Unfortunately, I'm now going interstate and will not be here to pick it up or have it to use on my trip. Not a happy chappy. So I have no idea what to think of the microphone but compared to the 5 days it took to get the Zoom H5 audio recorder from Hong Kong why would I bother to shop online in Australia.
