For most home chefs the sharpening steel will realign the edge and remove any niche or burr. This honing steel serves a vital role by realigning, or "resetting," kitchen knives' edges, which bend this way and that when contacting a cutting surface. (Often called a sharpening steel, or "butcher" steel, a steel doesn't actually sharpen a knife--unless it's a "diamond" steel.) Consisting of a rod of hard steel-alloy with a tough synthetic handle and a steel finger guard, this steel works well and looks better than most hanging close at hand, where you can employ it frequently—ideally each time you use a knife. That prevents a blade from becoming dull and prolongs intervals between professional sharpenings. The rule is that a steel should be at least as long as the knife blade being drawn across it, and this steel's 30cm rod hones all household knives.

Nice heavy sturdy honing steel. Longer 12" length is perfect to hone my 10" chef's knife and slicer. Realigns the burrs on the blade of the knife, and gets rid of any nicks. Helps keep my knives extremely sharp at all times. Built to last a long time, and made in Germany.

Definitely recommend a sharpening steel for any one who uses kitchen knives. Sharpening a dull blade just takes a couple of minutes and can make all the difference in your cooking experience. This is a heavy professional steel. It works like it should. When you pick it up, you know you have a serious tool. You can quickly regain you knife's edge. Don't be mistaken; it doesn't sharpen but, re-aligns the microscopic structure of the sharpened edge without removing any material.

This is a really nice honing steel I use this one for all my Zwilling knives and I'm always amazed at how sharp they stay. This does not replace your annual sharpening but keeping your fine edges in alignment ensures they give you the best daily performance. If you're uncertain about how to properly use this just look at a video on line and you'll be easily doing it in no time!
This 12-inch steel will handle any length knife in one smooth stroke. The heftier handle is designed for folks accustomed to the weight. The ridges on the handle are a help when hands are wet. The loop at the end is there to hang the steel from the prep table or on the wall. Made in Germany of quality durable steel. Will last, even with heavy daily use.
Great and easy way to keep your knives sharp longer. With the honing steel, you can keep the edge on your knives for much longer, and you won’t have to worry about sharpening your knives as much. Perfect for any German stainless steel knife. Nice handle on the steel as well, provides easy and sercure comfort as you use the steel to hone your knives.
The honing steel will realign your knife edge bringing it back to that "out of the box" sharpness. You should use this any time your knife isn't cutting the way you want it to, although some use it every time they cut. The beauty of a honing steel is that you can't do it too much; it doesn't take metal off of your knife. It's simple to do but a video on the website really helps. This 12" steel can handle up to a 10" knife.Remember, dull knives are more dangerous than sharp ones.
I have known and appreciated the German Zwilling Henckles brand of fine knives and cutlery products for years. I have numerous knives I have had a lifetime. I purchased the sharpening steel and a Henckles 12" chefs knife as a Christmas gift for my son in law. He will love it!
Just like you change the oil in your car, or you comb your hair everyday, if you invest in good knives, you will want to hone them regularly to maintain the edge. This steel is a good option. The length is a little longer than some of the others. There are great tutorials online to get started.
This is a quality sharpening steel. I had an older, cheaply made one from years ago that was rusty and so I purchased this looking for a good sharpening steel for my new Zwilling Pro Chef knife. The first thing I noticed was the weight. This is much heavier than my previous sharpening steel. It does the job and I know this product will last!
