Seagate is my go-to brand for hard drives. They are reliable, fast and inexpensive to get in very large capacities. I was surprised that this 500 GB drive is a great deal thinner and lighter than the 80 GB it replaces. I also love that it comes with NO software loaded, so I can load what I want, rather than having to deal with all the garbage that comes in "LOADED" computers. This lack of useless software is helping me keep this drive mostly empty and running fast. I am sure that my gaming and record keeping will fill the drive up fast enough. I don't need the stuff that wouldn't sell at all if it wasn't pre-installed taking up space.

Bought as 2nd drive to supplement SATA SSD boot drive, for older PC that came with no drives. Unit came with "Certified Repaired" label - and I have no reason to think that's not so. No issues installing, formatting. CrystalMark speed test results are what I expected. Good value for what it is - as long as it holds up. Installed it only last month.

I was replacing an old HHD with this after the previous drive failed. At first I thought a virus had effected my system, as icons started to dissappear, and some programs were taking lengthy times to load. After a reformat and fresh install, I realized it was the drive as I heard it clicking after install and hit a disk read error on one of my boots. At this point, I am considering that it's possibly my mobo that is giving me issues, and not the drive itself. However, despite being a 5 year old system, most of that time this system has been sitting in a closet, and I didn't have any of these issues before I replaced the drive. I would have given 3 eggs, but with the mobo in mind, I decided to split the difference.

Overall I love these cheap hard drives. They're a good amount of storage and perfect for selling computers. Though the amount of use and abuse on each is different so some are better than others. Some can be really quite slow and bottleneck the system a bit running at 100% for awhile after boot up in task manager. Others don't have the same issue. I'd say it's 50/50 and I've bought about 5 of these from the same seller. Pros: - the GB per dollar is amazing and cannot be beat - Seagate name brand - Standard SATA interface - Almost constantly available at the same great price from this seller Cons: - Kinda a lottery some are good some are less good - A few of mine had dings and scratches to the label Ain't the fastest, but gets the job done for cheap Highly Recommended

I had purchased a Seagate Pipeline HD which worked very well (and still does to this day). This drive saw very little use outside of a go-between to hold data temporarily whenever I needed to transfer large amounts of data from one drive to another. When I finally got the money to start swapping components for my new build, I wanted to use this drive to hold on to some data that I would be transferring to my EVO 970 Plus. I started the copy and left for work, only to come home to see that the transfer had failed after just a few gigs. Switching these same cables to my old Hitatchi 1TB proved that assumption incorrect as they worked fine with it (I am actually using both these cables for that same Hitatchi and the Pipeline in fact). I cleaned the contacts on the drive, but this didn't help. At this point, I'm not sure what the issue could be, but I assume the PCB since it doesn't seem to have any issues actually reading or writing as it still does so at normal rates, it just can't solidly connect. Regardless of the cause; this shouldn't be happening in such a short time frame. Thankfully I didn't lose any data because of this, but this is unacceptable.
I know the guys at B and H use this stuff and know about it, but in this case I didn't listen and just focused on the price. The guy that helped me on this order told me these drives were junk and I should get a different brand. How I wish I has just said oh ok and paid the extra 100 for a better drive. Seagate is the worst. First the drive didn't even pretend to work. It never mounted and never showed in the utility. It was a dud from the start. So knowing the return policy I had to deal with Seagate to see if I could get money back or a replacement. They are putting me through the ringer. These drives are over priced for what they are and they should be selling for 20 bucks apiece before the rest of the PC users wake up and realize they're not really a good deal. Western Digital is putting out 500 GB SSDs out for 150 bucks apiece. Something with half as much storage would easily suffice in most domestic situations. Another way of looking at this is looking at the price of a brand new 1 TB external hard drive. What I paid for two refurbished 500 GB drives could have brought me a brand new 1TB external hard drive. So even though two of these are inexpensive that does not mean that they're really cost effective.

Better description of part. Part no. is correct, but plastic attached face is wrong color and wrong size. I tried grinding it to fit, but could not get it to fit and function correctly. Contour is different. Therefore, I did not attempt to return it. My loss.

Fortunately I came across this hard drive through google search that too for an excellent price even compared to the grey market products. Even though the capacity is slightly smaller but the performance factors were far superior than the one I had. So I decided to buy this at Walmart.
