Second, I notice very little heat when I have it in my lap, even when I'm charging it (as opposed to another 13 Windows laptop I was setting up at the same time that felt like it was going to burn my lap). Third, the battery life is outstanding. I can use it frequently and for hours at a time over several days on a single charge.Bonus points: on my first outing to a well-known coffee shop, when I went to take a sip of coffee, my cup collapsed and I spilled a good amount of coffee on they keyboard and speaker area (a form of christening I suppose). I shook it off, wiped it dry and everything still works (as far as I know).Overall, I am very happy with this purchase and would highly recommend the 13.3 M2 Macbooks (as well as B&H) to any prospective customer.

I bought this to replace a 2012 MacBook Pro that would no longer handle Adobe updates. I wanted a compact yet powerful machine that can handle my work: primarily lots of editing in Lightroom and Photoshop. I read recent reviews saying that the Apple M1 chip and latest Adobe version of Lightroom, specifically for the M1 chip, were really fast and capable; that's what convinced me to buy this machine. I have not been disappointed; it handles editing just like my powerful 2019 iMac desktop. I opted for as much RAM as I could (16GB). Everything about it has been pleasing: great work speed without slowing down or heating up. Screen is bright and wonderful. Battery life is really excellent. The only wish is that it had a built-in SD card reader, but I bought an accessory ... MoreI bought this to replace a 2012 MacBook Pro that would no longer handle Adobe updates. If you need it, Don’t Wait!!
21 February 2021

If you are reading these reviews, then you’re probably debating whether to buy the first gen M1s or wait for the second gen silicon devices. My advice: unless you are a creative who requires more screen, power, ports, and time for developers to perfect silicon support, the first gen is better than nothing! Technology is always updating, something new is always coming out, so unless you don’t need it, there is no point in waiting. In my case, I needed a computer upgrade for my workflow, and I have also been looking for an opportunity to switch from Windows to Mac (in terms ofnotebooks) for school purposes. Google Suite and Office Suite work without problems and battery life can keep me going for 1.5-2 days depending on what I’m doing!I still have my Windows PC for the intense stuff (Photoshop, Premiere, AE).However I never used my laptop for that in the first place! My laptop was always solely meant for school/daily work. In terms of optimization, I have yet to see anything slow down / delay my workflow!I definitely went overkill with 16GB Ram and even a Pro. Ultimately, you’ll have to decide about what you need and how badly you need it! For me it was worth it!

Love it the top bar, speed and lovely display.
4 November 2021

I haven't upgraded my laptop in years so this was a real treat. The screen res is just lovely. I heard many people dislike the touch bar but you can customize it however you like, making it a fantastic shortcut! Love it! I also don't regret the 16Gb mem upgrade as speed matter for my work. One curious issue for me and gf. I bought her the exact same model, occasionally we'll each see the blue screen of death, then a reboot. This makes me concerned that there is a graphics or motherboard issue. Hopefully not.

M1 is the future
20 February 2021

This was my first purchase from Adorama. The process was fast and painless and the shipping was faster than the majority of items I normally order online.Concerning the new MacBooks with M1- it’s FAST! The unit runs cooler than my 2017 unit and has more processing power. There is no overheating and No Fan blasting. I mainly use the unit to record music and I tend to utilize more intensive recording plug-ins which ALL function better on the M1 (zero latency) than any of my intel MacBooks ever did. The new Big Sur OS is great and has adaptive algorithms to reallocate memory and power on the fly and it can also can run certain intel based programs so can still use many of them!PLEASE NOTE: Regarding music production, that certain plug-ins have to be updated to work ... MoreThis was my first purchase from Adorama. This is typical as many software companies (some more than others) are slow to update their software.

Makes me mad :(
5 April 2022

I've used Macs for over a decade and I love them. This model though is poorly engineered. It makes me mad every time I sit down by it. As a pro model, it should have a card reader and at least 1 usb port. None of that in a pro model! Disappointing! Moreover, the connector that you can buy separately for connecting the card reader and USB ports is really bad, it disconnects all the time, and is just floppy. It's not an off brand that I got either, it's directly from Apple. What did the Apple engineers think not including any of the ports?! It hurts my soul!

Modern efficiency

As someone who has never owned a Mac before, this is honestly how a computer should work. Everything is fast, smooth, and responsive. It's quiet. Doesn't get absurdly hot. Small enough to carry around but big enough to enjoy the viewing experience and not be feel cramped. The battery life is what it says on the tin. Been using for music and web browsing for about 4 hours now and its down 13%. My old laptop (2017 Asus Zenbook) would be on it's last legs if it even made it 4 hours, even on maximum power saving mode. But when the going gets tough on this laptop, it really shines. Throwing audio engineering and software development tasks in the mix and the computer barely bats an eye. Doing similar tasks on my old laptop put me in the 10-12gb used range but now I average around 5-6gb.

Nice laptop
8 January 2023

This laptop is very similar to my 13 MacBook Pro with the 2.3 GHz i7. However, this laptop has only 2 Thunderbolt ports, and one is in use for charging. Having 4 ports would be better. The new Mac had to install Rosetta because I use Microsoft Office through my employer. Battery use is much better than the i7 Mac. Apple should still offer laptops with Intel chips for those who would benefit from it.

If compare to same design older intel model MacBook pro of 2016 year release - it is thicker, approximately on 2 mm. Seems new apple silicon require more space, actually the bottom side of notebook (not counting new screen lead)is probably same height as 14 version. To my mind this is not good explanation as some bloggers did that it is thicker because of added ports. I would say rather ports are added back because of it become thicker. I tend to think that ports are initially removed on this model just because it was looked ugly on slimed edge side.Comparing to 2016 model, the LCD has more juicy colors, but it is notable only if you put them next after another. What is really impressed, this M1 macbook has incredible long battery life!. It is ultimate working machine to work whole day without power socket (working with mails, browser, MS office, online meetings, preparing presentation , doing some lightweight programming )Touch-bar, it is new experience to me, but I found it veryusefuland in some cases irreplaceable. Especially I liked autosuggestion during text typing, ability to add file delete button there, but what is most I liked it is that there is added mic mute and vide hide/hide buttons when I do call via zoom. Surprisingly touch-bar is helpfull in programming, I add some build/run icons there, which are not exists on IDE (VS Code) interface and require to use hotkeysHowever, what about advertised features on touch-bar, like walk through browsers tabs, scroll video gallery are not usefull to my mind, as trackpad do its job pretty well in those casesIf you are reading this post to make decision 13 vs 14 I would look for 13 only in minor equipment 8MB/SSD256 as the price difference is big enough.but if you are looking to 16Mb/516Gb+ version, it worth to go with 14 though as the difference is not so big, but you get bigger and new screen and it with will have more longer support i think.
