AR: All Round or Always Ready? Yes to both!

I have now had this jacket for a few months and it's become my most worn article of clothing. AR is literal in this sense. It is light, very well engineered, and is simple yet sophisticated with its looks. I had tested the Beta and Beta LT in store to get an idea of the sizing and can confirm this jacket is a bit "baggier" than the other two which are more formfitting. Is that a bad thing? No, I've noticed the benefits this fall as the ability to layer underneath has been such a welcome! My favorite part of this jacket? Feeling invincible as you trek through rain. I've gone on bike rides, hikes, and walks to the supermarket and water has had no chance of getting me wet when I get caught in it. Pit zips are far more used than I thought and really help with cooling ... MoreI have now had this jacket for a few months and it's become my most worn article of clothing. This jacket is fantastic, but the company itself is beyond amazing. I had first purchased this jacket in 2007. Recently the seam tape on the inside started coming loose. I sent the jacket into Arcteryx for repair. They notified me of their inability to repair back to original condition. They gave me a credit of 100% of the original cost of the jacket and said I could use that credit toward the purchase of a brand new jacket. I am unaware of another company that would do something like that. Incredible! I am an Arcteryx customer for life. Their products are terrific. Original cost is pricey, but the company stands behind their products as evidenced by their credit of 100% of the original purchase price after 17 years of use. I am still blown away by how they took ... MoreThis jacket is fantastic, but the company itself is beyond amazing. I had first purchased this jacket in 2007. The Beta AR jacket is great for all around activities and for leisure! The fit is very comfortable and with a mid layer its good for winter condition so usefull for 3 seasons! I love the colour Navy (black sapphire. Its light but windproof and waterproof. I bought a Nuclei jacket also to wear as a mid layer and its very warm despite being very light and comfortable. Lots of pockets and opening that are well positioned! The quality of the material is outstanding and its a very stylish design.

Exceptional Customer Service
10 February 2024

I received my Beta AR jacket recently and have not had the chance to fully enjoy/test the jacket just yet so this review will be aimed more at Arc’teryx’s exceptional customer service. Here’s an example: I was on a ski trip a month ago and was using my Stingray jacket from 2006 when, on the last day, the snow skirt tore off. The rest of the jacket was still in incredible shape but I thought I’d contact Arc’teryx anyways.Upon contacting them, I was told I could get a 100% credit for the full price of the jacket—an 18 year old jacket! I have since sent in my old jacket and used the credit to purchase my new Beta AR that I am sure will accompany me on many more adventures.I was very impressed with this level of service, please keep it up going forward Arc’teryx!

Great shell, but loose waist
20 May 2024

I bought this a month ago and I am a big fan of the drop hood design. The fit around the chest and shoulders is a little tight but not uncomfortable. Overall a great product.I have a zeta AR model and I noticed one thing missing was the waist tightening straps. I have a wider chest but narrower waist (athletic type would be best descrition) and wish the Beta Ar had the waist tightening system to better fit the midsection of the shell to my body. It's not a big concern but I worry that the sides catch on something since it is wider than my waist.

I enjoy this product.
27 October 2023

Just bought this as my first Arcteryx jacket and I am liking it so far. Compared to the Beta I like the Goretex pro material better as it feels more durable. I wanted something that could do it all so the All-Round (AR) made the most sense. Can't wait to take it hiking, camping, and more! No more trapped heat with the pit zips which I needed to have, and the draw strings for the hood adjust well to my small head + hat combination.Drop hood is nice and comfortable. Looks great.Pockets are a good length and size.

Ok but not great

I have owned this jacket for a few months and am already regretting my purchase.A few days after getting the jacket, my partner noticed a weird stain around the collar. This stain does not go away, you can wash it was some detergent (have to be careful with the Gore-Tex) but it remains. I have to follow review guidelines so I can't speak more about this.Other than my particular issue, which to be fair, could likely be avoided by picking a darker color, there are some other issues. Like one reviewer mentioned, the sleeves are really long and the overall fit is weird. It's tight in the shoulders and chest but loose everywhere else. But, if you are a lanky skinny fat guy then this jacket might be the perfect fit for you.The DWR is the worst I have ever ... MoreI have owned this jacket for a few months and am already regretting my purchase.A few days after getting the jacket, my partner noticed a weird stain around the collar. Like one reviewer mentioned, the sleeves are really long and the overall fit is weird. It's tight in the shoulders and chest but loose everywhere else. But, if you are a lanky skinny fat guy then this jacket might be the perfect fit for you.The DWR is the worst I have ever experienced. After a day or two of moderate (not heavy) rain, it already wore off. I was unable to refresh it in the washer/dryer so I had to apply a new DWR coating but that didn't work very long either.Because of the way the jacket fits, the "storm hood" isn't really that functional. If you are wearing anything on top of your head, or have long hair, you will still have to unzip your jacket in order to put the hood up, which kind of defeats the purpose. Then, because of the way the hood is shaped, it is impossible to get it tightened correctly so it doesn't keep flying down when you're in...a storm (or even moderately windy weather). Having a more traditional integrated hood would be lighter and better.I have also noticed patchy areas on my arms and chest where even though it is a 3 layer shell, the water can come through at parts where there are seams. I have not had this issue with other shells, except when the membrane started failing, not in a new jacket. The overall construction appears much lower quality than other shells I have had from Arcteryx or any other brand. There are other things I think you should know but I have to follow review guidelines so I won't. This jacket should be and easily could be much better for how much it costs.

Overall, great. But cuffs wet out in heavy rain.
6 December 2023

Bought over the summer for the wet. This is a pretty solid jacket. I fit an XS but bought an S for room to layer in the colder months. That was a good choice. Just about everything is solid on the jacket, including all pockets and zips. Hood fits over a variety of head accessories. There's just one issue though. Every time I wear the jacket in serious rain, the cuffs wet out. I don't know what the underlying cause is; I've cinched them down pretty tightly. It's really disappointing since it's uncomfortable, and I was hoping a reconditioning (wash + DWR) would take care of it; sadly not. Maybe you (Arc'teryx) can look into it? I've tried to see if others have had this experience as well, but haven't found much online.

Super Nerdy Review - Updated Beta AR (L)
16 December 2023

I sent in my 2013 Made in Canada Beta AR (sigh) for repair after the hem gave out. I whomped on that thing for 10 ski seasons and it really was a fantastic jacket. When they emailed me that I could replace it with the new model for $70 I had to think long and hard about it but I am glad I did. Customer service process was very clunky (took about a month to get an answer) - so instead of emailing call them. The new model is definitely a much different jacket in fit and construction. My use case is as a ski jacket so keep that in mind that some changes may be awesome for me but not for your use case. In short if you aren't going to layer under this jacket - then size down BUT if you plan to add multiple layers (even down layers) then order your normal size. Some of ... MoreI sent in my 2013 Made in Canada Beta AR (sigh) for repair after the hem gave out. My use case is as a ski jacket so keep that in mind that some changes may be awesome for me but not for your use case. In short if you aren't going to layer under this jacket - then size down BUT if you plan to add multiple layers (even down layers) then order your normal size. Some of the changes I noted from my 2013 model are; much longer in the front and back. The jacket now fully covers my longest mid layers which is a nice change. The collar is MUCH higher and provides way better protection that the 2013 model. Just a note about this - since the collar is much higher you can not wear hooded mid layers under this coat (go with the storm hood model instead). The sizing in the mid part of the jacket is larger than the 2013 model which accommodates any mid layer you could reasonably want to wear (prior 2013 model I was straining it with a mid weight down jacket under it). The sleeve design is way, way, way improved. They have basically 3D cut the sleeve to match your arm articulation now whereas before it was just a straight down cut. Articulation is really good. My only minor gripe with the fit is the sleeves are MUCH longer. My jacket is going down over ski gloves so not a huge deal and I get it why they did this - you had to increase sleeve length when you make everything else longer or else it looks wonky.Materials. The updated Gore-Tex Pro fabric has an amazing feel to it and is much less crinkly than the 2013 version I had before. I got the blue tetra color and oh man the website does not do this justice. Its amazing. The jacket color does have a bit of sheen to it but it really has a nice look. Both the 80D reinforced areas and the 40D areas have a very nice feel to them. The zippers for the pockets and pit zips are light years ahead of my 2013 model - meaning they are much easier to operate. This jacket is Made in Vietnam. Overall construction seems top notch and the stitching is the best I have seen on any jacket. Time will tell if it remains as durable as my 2013 did.Overall I think this is the best hardshell Arcteryx makes (for my use) as they have the fit dialed in just right (big but not huge, room for layers, but not sloppy). As a comparison I tried the Sabre jacket in large and that thing fits like a shower curtain. I'm 5'9" tall and 190 lbs with a 42 inch chest and 34 inch waist. I got the large.

Versatile Shell
23 February 2024

Recently bought this jacket and used it for the first time on a trip to Park City, Utah. I wanted a versatile shell that I could use for skiing, snowmobiling, and anything else I needed it for. This jacket worked great. Took plenty of falls on the slopes and had zero issue. The fabric is a good thickness and very durable. I would recommend this as a good all around shell. I’m 275 lb and bought an XXL. Wasn’t oversized but gave a good amount of room for layering underneath.
