Amazing all round jacket - Skiing, Hiking and City

I bought this jacket originally for hiking over the summer incase of storms. However I have found it so practical I use it pretty much whenever it rains. It is lightweight, yet Gore-Tex pro. It has a big enough hood to have a helmet on underneath and I preferred it to the standard Beta AR as I like the hood more. The pit zips are also great for when you get too hot, yet want to keep dry. I have also used this jacket for Skiing and found the Gore-Tex pro to work perfectly - very water repellent. I paired it with a proton heavyweight to ski in for anyone wondering.

Excellent jacket

8 hours paddling in Yukon during a torrential downpour. At the end of the day I was the only person with dry clothes.I was wearing a hat and easily rolled the hood inside to prevent pooling. The large side pockets are easily accessible to the point I could access them without taking off my PFD. Cuffs closed easily and prevented any rain from going into my sleeves. Barely sweat despite working to paddle, wearing my PFD, and 20 degree temperature. Literally shook it dry after the fact. Best rain jacket I've ever owned.

Excellent quality.

I am 5'9" on a good day, and 170 lbs. athletic build. I bought a medium. I will say that if I was buying this for fashion over function I would have gone with a Small, and would probably had plenty of room. I don't look /feel great in things that are even slightly big on me. but I bought this with the intention of layering it. I bought a medium, and with no layers underneath, it does feel big on me. My wife says the length and cut are perfect. I havent had a lot of time in the extremes with it yet. Just some rain and wind, but I look forward to using this for many adventures. it is a top notch jacket.

Fantastic support!
27 March 2024

This is not a review about the jacket - I've owned it for 7 years (I guess it was called Beta SL Hybrid Jacket then), and it was the best jacket I've ever owned.I contacted the support team because I noticed that the seams were starting delaminate, which after 7 years of use, I was not surprised about. I just wanted to know how to repair them myself, or if they'd repair it for me. Instead, they sent me a gift card to cover the entire amount (tax, shipping) for me to purchase a brand new Beta Jacket. I was shocked that Arc'Teryx is willing to stand behind their product after 7 years of usage! Their products are a bit expensive - I think we all know that - but after this experience, why would I consider any other brand? THANK YOU!

Great Replacement for the Zeta
10 January 2024

First let me say how easy it was too work with the Arc Service team. My Zeta jacket from a few years ago had some issues, so I was sent a credit with no questions within a few weeks. This made it very simple for this swap.I was worried about replacing my previous jacket with the Beta because the reviews I read stated that the Beta was shorter than the Zeta. I am 6'4", 275lbs and the Beta fits PERFECTLY. There is plenty of room with just a tee or baselayer under this jacket, and fits like a glove with a hoodie or sweatshirt underneath. I couldn't be happier with the fit. This jacket seems like it's lighter than the Zeta which is another plus because it will make this jacket more comfortable in the spring and rainy summer days. The quality seems top notch, but I ... MoreFirst let me say how easy it was too work with the Arc Service team. Great jacket, questionable durability.
16 February 2024

This jacket was purchased with the intent to be used for hiking and skiing. After less than 2 weeks use, (4 - 5 days of use) there were abrasion tears along the bottom of the jacket. I suspect a backpack or a pair of skis rubbed against the bottom string cinch of the jacket. Unfortunately, Arcteryx wouldn’t warranty, as they considered this wear and in the case of tear, literally tear. Although extremely disappointed, I can understand the reasoning. However, I do find that this is odd for a product which is described exactly as how it was used, wearing a backpack for a hike, or carrying skis to go skiing. I was more shocked as the beta AR is described, as being great for all round purposes, which it’s being used in such a manner, and also the jacket is sold as made ... MoreThis jacket was purchased with the intent to be used for hiking and skiing. I was more shocked as the beta AR is described, as being great for all round purposes, which it’s being used in such a manner, and also the jacket is sold as made with goretex pro “most durable” material. So this is something to take note of if you’re looking to purchase this product. In any case, I wasn’t looking for a warranty, as I love the jacket, but was more seeing if there was a way to patch or reinforce the area, even if I had to pay for it. So I was surprised when the only thing they would offer was tape, which was unexpected as I have had various other previous shells repaired via patching by Arc’teryx. Apparently there is a new policy where they will no longer re patch shells and only offer tape? However, even more disheartening was how quick they were to send me off to a local repair shop. This leads me to question how much faith they currently put in their own products, and how much they will actually repair a product. If there is already a third-party ready to repair, I unfortunately do not sense a great future for the repairability of shell jackets by Arc’teryx going forward. It seems like the only repair they are willing to offer for a shell jacket is tenacious tape. I’ve had amazing service with arcteryx the past couple of years, having owned a Beta LT, an alpha LT, and many other shells. It seems the company has changed substantially, and the way they stand behind the product has also changed. If you’re looking for a great looking shell jacket to wear around town in the rain, this could be it. It feels much more sturdy than the regular beta. The zipper feels great, (I found the current regular beta jacket zippers cheap feeling), and the fit is amazing. It is also great for layering, as long as you don’t layer with hoods. However, if you are contemplating doing even the slightest bit of outdoor activity, which requires wearing a backpack, or carrying anything, I would strongly advise you to avoid this jacket. It’s simply not durable, and you will end up in my position where I am going to have to repair a 2 week old jacket myself. You can look into maybe a used Beta SV, which I understand is made with tougher material. Let’s hope my case was just a bad experience, but I am now looking to support other companies, which stand behind the product, and are willing to do proper repairs, even if it is for a price. I hope this is just a one off bad experience as I love the dead bird, but I have to say, the overall experience has left me with little confidence.

Nice shell for the right person
23 April 2024

Purchased the beta AR stormhood as well as the beta lightweight. I ended up returning the AR because of the fit. I think this piece is probably better for layering and more harsh conditions but it was more of a boxy fit being the regular fit and I really liked the fit of the beta lightweight. The lightweight was a little more slim and looked like it was tailored to my body.I definitely think this model is better than the drop hood version and I think for the right person this jacket would work great but it wasn’t for me.Ended up returning the AR and keeping the lightweight

Not worth the price

Bought the Beta AR about 8 months ago believing that the GoreTex Pro offers superior performance and reliability. I only used the jacket a few times and I recently noticed a small hole in the fabric. I've contacted Arc'teryx support and was told that the issue is not covered under the warranty and cannot be resolved. The only thing they offered to do was to send me a piece of tape so I can patch it myself. I own 8 different GoreTex jackets and many other products from Arc'teryx. I've been a loyal customer for years, but this experience has severely damaged my trust in the company and their products. More likely than not I am not going to buy this brand again. They sell the promise of high quality products that are supposed to last a lifetime, instead they didn't last one year of very light usage (mostly used for commuting to work. I haven't even used in a hike or skiing yet). Nothing that I have used the jacket for could explain the how the hole was created. To top it all off, support has been slow and unresponsive. I would expect that Arc'teryx would at least offer to do the patching themselves using materials and colour that matches the original construction of the jacket. Not recommended.

Not much to say about fabrics and waterproofing. After checking a lot of information, it is said that the new beta jacket has been upgraded for 80 days, which is more wear-resistant, and a search and rescue locator has been added. I feel that the new model is worth entering. In terms of workmanship, this one of mine is made in Canada. The bird logo embroidery is full and the glue is neatly pressed inside. First of all, the length of the clothes is just right, and the back can be covered to the middle and lower position of the buttocks. The hem is very good whether it is worn normally or tightened. Secondly, the bust is also suitable. It's just right to wear thick fleece inside. atom heavyw can zip up and it won't be very crowded. cerium down will not work. If there is a need to add down inside, it is recommended to buy a bigger size.

Very handsome jacket
25 September 2024

BETA is the most classic and best-selling series of Archaeopteryx. JACKET can be regarded as the basic entry model in BETA. It adopts three-layer N30p Gore- tex waterproof breathable membrane and incorporates gore-knit lining technology. The overall feel is softer, with low noise and good air permeability, but the wear resistance and scratch resistance are weak. There is no underarm breathable zipper, which is more suitable for hiking, hiking, commuting and other environments. It can be used as an outer layer protection and is very handsome to match.
