A Wide Metaspeed Shoe Basically!

To my (happy) surprise, these shoes feel EXACTLY like the carbon plated super shoes I just bought and returned, except WIDE! On the Edge Paris and other regular sized Asics shoes, my mid foot hangs over the side but not these. The carbon plate is WAY morecomfortable in these bad boys as well, versus the harsh upward pointing plate in the Edge. Also, unlike the Edge which had a "roll-y" feeling, the plates here make me feel like I am springing up when I walk or run. The foam is also very high and soft feeling, and feels way better than the mushy foam in the Nimbus. It is way better than the Novablasts as well. All in all, these shoes are above average and S tier. They should be the only choice for anyone with wode feet looking for a carbon plated quality racing ... MoreTo my (happy) surprise, these shoes feel EXACTLY like the carbon plated super shoes I just bought and returned, except WIDE! The upper also is the same material and build as the Metapseed Paris, so it feels exactly the same just wide. My only complaint is with Asics for these being sold out in pre order in wide. I had to get them from another website that had my size in stock, but they only had one pair left. This market scarcity driving thing is reminiscent of Nike and pointless. There's no better shoe than these shoes and I don't want to buy anything else. Even the Alphafly 3 is in stock again so Asics is technically at the bottom at this point.

A little to Ridgid for me but good bounce

I’m a older runner that ran exclusively in ASICS back in the 1970s , 80s and early 2000s but then it seem like ASICS fell behind with all the other shoe manufacturers and didn’t produce anything worth running in for years. This new Magic Speed 4 is the first ASICS I’ve purchased in years. Gotta say it is good , the lockdown, the ride is great you can feel the bounce of the plate. I do think it’s a little stiff and ridged feeling from what I was expecting, hopefully the foam will soften up some as I run in the shoes. But I don’t think there is a perfect running shoe for any of us. You gotta take the good with some bad. How ever I do day good job ASICS

Felt great right out of the box.

It does what it says on the tin. True to size for ASICS. But why is this the Paris colourway? What are they not red, white, and blue? Nevermind. Felt a couple of mm higher stack than the Metaspeed Sky but still very stable. A little heavier with regular laces, a little padding on the tongue, and solid construction. Designed as a carbon training shoe (I think). As usual, they feel a bit weird and squishy when walking around but feel great once you start running. A little more cushioning and bounce than the Metaspeed Sky. If you suffer foot fatigue in long races in your carbon super shoes then these just might be the thing for long distance ironman triathlons or a marathon.

Good platform coupled with a passable upper.
1 September 2024

So this is a difficult review to leave, as there isn’t anything particularly glaring wrong with the shoes. I have about 50 miles on them but the fit is just problematic. The mid and forefoot widths are good but the volume is just too much, so I’m finding it difficult to lock down the forefoot for fast paces (workouts and repeats). I have the opposite problem with the heel, I have to leave it kind of loose (there is definitely no issues with heel slip!) but it tends to bother my Achilles during longer efforts. I have even given lock laces a shot but because of the positioning of the laces and the lack of tongue padding it didn’t really help either issue. So overall, I really like the platform but the upper is passable only, so I’m giving 3 stars.

Great choice for wide feet! More colors, please!
23 July 2024

I mistakenly submitted my review on the standard width for this shoe but will put it here also. I really like these shoes. I got these in size 9.5 wide. Normally I'd wear 9 for anything other than running/hiking. I went half up to accommodate foot swelling during long runs. I presume I would've started feeling some pain, tingling and/or numbness at the toes around 3-6 mile mark with size 9, standard width. It’s not easy finding wide shoes with a carbon plate and I’m glad ASICS made these in wide. ASICS, please make more shoes/colors in wide. I'd love to purchase the Novablast, Superblast, Metaspeed edge/sky Paris in sunset red/black or safety yellow colors, in wide. Thanks for reading and I hope this brief review was helpful!

There's something magic about these shoes!
22 October 2024

I've been a big fan of the Magic Speed shoes since they launched their first model. This is my 4th year of Magic with ASICS. I truly like the bright yellow color, it gives me energy. Also I like how responsive the shoe feels and their light weight. However in my opinion their fit in the two newest models is slightly tighter compared to their two first models. Otherwise this is a versatile shoe that works for both running outdoor or on the treadmill, they're perfect for intervals and faster runs, but also nice to run in even with a lower pace.

[Rewarded Review] Bouncy, comfortable and quick!
6 July 2024

These felt fabulous from the moment I put them on. They also look fantastic in the vibrant yellow colourway too - catching the eye of a few who’ve seen them since I’ve had them. My last Magic Speed were the first iteration and I loved them, but these have had a heap of improvements across the board. Bouncy, comfortable and they definitely feel stable. The roll off the toe and the spring of the carbon certainly propel you forward. A quick time in the first wearing of them on a 5k race shows promise for what’s to come. Love these and look forward to more speed sessions in them.

[Rewarded Review] I felt so good running in these shoes!
15 July 2024

The Magic Speed 4 are your go-to shoe for speedy intervals & road races with their carbon plate, FF Blast Turbo & FF Blast Plus foam, and an overall bouncy & comfortable feel. I have worn the Magic Speed 3 over the past few months and as my first carbon plated shoe I loved them. However, ASICS have really improved the model in the 4 with a more cushioned feel and softer/material upper that makes it feel like a more every day trainer initially but once you get running you can really feel that spring in your step! I'll be wearing these for my speed work during marathon training and any shorter road races I may have in the lead up. I wear the same size in these as I would in other ASICS road shoes and they fit perfectly.

[Rewarded Review] Superb Sequel 🌟
8 July 2024

Magic Speed 4 - another superb sequel to the Magic Speed range. I am a long time lover of them and have all four iterations. I wear them for all my interval sessions and tempo runs. I find with the carbon plate they are extremely responsive, energetic and with the updated FF TURBO cushioning it really is a premium quality shoe.Visually, the eye popping neon Safety Yellow/Black colour way is fabulous to jazz up any running wardrobe, I love it!!Would highly recommend these Magic Speeds 4, I’m obsessed so much so I have just purchased a pair for my husband - 10/10 🌟
