With the GEL-KayANO 27 running shoe you will enjoy excellent comfort and advanced support. The redesigned mesh upper keeps your feet cool, while a more flexible sole makes the rolling phase of your movement more natural. This starts in the heel area with additional flex grooves that isolate the force of the initial impact and make the foot landing softer and smoother. After half of the movement, the inward rotation of the foot changes to an outward rotation, which ensures a high efficiency of your toe print. To further encourage this natural movement, DYNAMIC DUOMAX technology has been incorporated to support the foot and increase stability for runners whose feet tilt inwards too much (overpronation). The midsole also features SPACE TRUSSTIC technology that provides stability and reduces overall weight, making the transition from foot landing to toe imprinting easier. This extra stability is complemented by deeper flex grooves in the forefoot area, which also provide a smoother roll-off and toe impression phase and allow the shoe to move naturally with the foot. Finally, the visibility of the runner in low light conditions is increased by a large number of reflective materials in the rear foot area. The GEL-KAYANO 27 model is an excellent choice for all competitive or recreational runners looking for an everyday running shoe that combines comfort and support.

A little disappointed

However, not 2 weeks after starting to use them for my daily runs I noticed a tear in the shoe. I have since sent two emails to customer care with photos of the problem and have politely requested assistance. Other than this issue, the shoe is a great shoe and I am hoping that they will remedy the problem.

So I’ve been using a lot of other brands, and was always hesitant to buy ASICS due to a bad experience before. So, I spent some time researching the GK and how it did for very flat feet and plantar fasciitis pain. All the reports/reviews were fairly equal in saying that people were able to run again, while using this shoe. So, I ordered a pair.I have been able to run, and it has been good jogs, with minimal foot pain after, something I haven’t had in awhile. My only gripe, and it’s a minimum one, is that the shoes are slightly narrow. Not a lot, but enough to notice.Other than that, this is a good shoe, and it works for the intended purpose of running and providing stability for a flat footed runner.

Overall great looking sneaker. The tongue wasn’t stitched properly in the inside leaving it quite raggedy. However as it is on the inside I am the only person privy to that information. There was a couple of white specs, perhaps paint? on the blue part on the side unfortunately. Which took away from its overall look. Again not heartbreaking. I find the laces are not long enough if your foot is wide and you loosen the laces wider you don’t have any room to tie the laces properly, it would need at least 3 more inches each side. A final point would be even taking the width of the laces to the maximum the sneaker stops expanding so if you have a wider foot it has a tightness. I am hopeful that through time this will ease. Besides the small flaws the company and brand are undoubtedly my first choice in this attire.

I began running in the 1970s with a pair of leather Adidas Countries then moved on to Brooks and the Brooks Vantage which was my favorite. I went through some Sauconys, Nikes, New Balance and many others and most were good shoes. I started wearing Kayanos sometime in the 90s until I decided to try Hokas about 7 years ago and that same year injured my knee and was told the cartilage was totaled destroyed and would not be able to run again. I stayed totally away from walking/running for a few years then started back on my treadmill with fast walking. What a difference! The first couple of days they felt a little tight and flat. Now they feel like heaven...like that first modern running shoe from Brooks back in the 70s. Fits like a glove, supportive in all the right places, and makes me feel like I'm a runner again. My steps flow and I put in 28 miles on my treadmill last week (I'm 67)and don't feel the least bit sore or achy. I am totally back to ASICS. Think I only wandered because they were so good the started to seem boring...won't make that mistake again.

Manufacturer defect and no support
14 February 2023

I was gifted a pair Gel-Kayano 28 size 11 for my birthday on 01/25/2023 as my hiking shoes had worn out. I used them approximately a week later on a 4 mile hike and developed a blister on my left heal. I took it as this was a new pair of shoes and needed some wearing in. About 2 weeks later took the same hike and developed a new blister in the same area while wearing the shoes for the 2nd time. I began examining the shoes better and discovered that material was bunching up on the heel and was different than the one on the right heel, which was smooth and padded. Instead of asking the gift giver for a receipt, I looked at Asis website and they indicated that they covered manufacturing defects. Instead of asking the gift giver for a receipt, I looked at Asis website and they indicated that they covered manufacturing defects. Called the company and they sent me over a form to fill out along with a bunch of questions to answer and requesting photos of the damage. Filled the form out and sent the pics and was surprised at the response. Quote: ASICS has reviewed your application for a warranty and determined that your shoes do not meet the criteria for a warranty, as the product has been determined not to have a manufacturing defect. This warranty does not cover any defects due to improper fit, normal wear and tear, damage due to improper use, misuse, improper transportation or storage, failure to follow product instructions, modification or alteration to the product, unauthorized repair, or negligence. ASICS has determined this product is not defective and the damage to the shoe is not a result of, or caused by, the materials used in the manufacturing of the product or an error in the manufacturing process and is a result of either improper fit, normal wear and tear, damage due to improper use, misuse, or negligence. The area on the upper heel of these shoes is a soft, flexible cushioning material that is intended to cushion the back of the heel against the top part of the upper heel structure of the shoes. These shoes are intended to have a tight, non-slipping fit against the heel (a finger should not fit between the foot and the shoe). These shoes are intended to be fully unlaced and loosened before being removed, and are intended to be tightened around a foot rather than being tied before inserting the foot. Can Customer service explain how the above mentioned items could have occurred after one use? This happened after one use, then again after a 2nd use. Improper use? Wear and tear? Fully unlaced? Thought I was getting a quality pair of shoes which failed on the 1st try. Asics now indicates that it was my fault after 1st use?

My third and forth pair 27s inconsistencies
18 April 2022

This is my third and forth pair of Kayano 27s. I ordered 2 other pairs when they first came out and absolutely loved them. I'm an avid runner and have every pair of Kayanos since series 19 came out. Average about 30 to 50 miles a month, when I can fit in more I do.The reason Im not so impressed with the two pairs I just received is do to the inconsistencies between the first 27s and the now 27s. For some reason The tonge on the shoe normally works its way to the outside of my foot when running, and I fell in love with the earlier model of the 27s because like a couple past years, the tonge stays flush centered due to two elastic nylon connections to the side of the sole. I would hope for less inconsistencies from Asics Kayanos.

This is the most painful thing I've had to write
18 September 2022

This is perhaps the most painful breakup I've ever had. I've been wearing Gel Kayanos for roughly 20 years. They were the only shoe that really fit my foot and supported my over-pronation. I bought two pairs every year until two years ago. That's when they started not to feel right. I bought two pairs of 27's about two weeks ago. The crease in the toe box was so extreme when I walked or ran I had to return them. I tried on the 28's and they were really no better plus the hard plastic arch support was gone (buried in foam is what the salesperson told me but I couldn't feel the support). After all these years, I've had to switch brands. What a bummer. I hope that Asics goes back to the drawing board on the Gel Kayanos and while they do it, use the blueprint of a model ... MoreThis is perhaps the most painful breakup I've ever had. I hope that Asics goes back to the drawing board on the Gel Kayanos and while they do it, use the blueprint of a model prior to the 26's just to get a decent shoe out to the public. Again, I used to love these running shoes and even wore them to the office. I have 8 old pairs in the closet to prove it but they're wearing thin in the soles. So very sad. Goodbye Asics... it wasn't me... it was you. (wish it was the other way around)

Toe crumpling is unsightly
25 October 2021

I was in love with them at first but the first day I wore them I started noticing the crumpling everyone is complaining about in the toe box. You'll get them somewhere around 11:00 or 1:00 depending on how you walk & they just are there & will not go away once the dents & crumples show up.Depending on how you walk or run it will either rub against your toe & annoy you or hurt. But either way it's unsightly on an expensive pair of shoes to have this happen right away. I'm honestly just tired of feeling it rubbing against my big toe on my right foot. It's completely obnoxious.Otherwise the shoes feel good although they seem to run a little odd. They fit like gloves from the front of my arch back to the heel but in the toe box although I like them roomy like it is ... MoreI was in love with them at first but the first day I wore them I started noticing the crumpling everyone is complaining about in the toe box. There's just simply no way that it won't have these creases, dents and crumples because it's too weak of a material.

What a perfect show

I really wish the designers would check themselves. The Kayano 31s pale in comparison to these. They're comfortable, sure but they look silly with the toe box flaring upwards and the ridiculously chunky sole. The 27s were sooooo darn good right out of the box. I hate to switch to Brooks because my 27s are wearing out but I can't wear the new ones. They just look silly.Get it together, ASICS.
