Blades need to be sharpened before first use. Bauer X-LP are created for people who are seeking their very first pair of “real” hockey skates for recreational and amateur play. There’s no denying that below certain price threshold it is very hard to balance cost and quality, but Bauer has managed to pull it off and result is impressive. X-LP may be low tier, but they are also a great introduction to playing hockey. X-LP are based on polycarbonate, injection molded shell. It is lightweight and offers a good trade-off between ankle support and flex – just right for beginners. The thick padding is covered by fabric made out of wool, making the boots comfortable and warm. The felt tongue comes with additional reinforcement to protect foot and shin better. It also help locking your foot in place. Symmetrical toe cap provides additional room and enhances comfort even further. The LS Pro II blade holder used in X-LP does not allow for swapping blade, but other than that, it is of design very similar to one found in higher end models, preserving the benefits like rigidity, precision and level of control. The blade has wider curve, being flatter than in higher end models which is once again by design to make X-LP more welcoming to newcomers, providing a more stable base. The blade is not pre-sharpened, so be sure to take care of it before first use! In our humble opinion, these skates are perfect choice if you want get basic, but decent skate to start playing hockey. It is affordable and comes with everything you need.

Haven’t skated in 30 years and went out on a limb and switched to hockey skates so I could skate with my kids every week. Skating was always uncomfortable, downright painful and not very enjoyable wearing figure skates. Enter the Bauer X-LP skates…First off, I was sized in-store and even though I have a relatively wide foot I fit comfortably in the Regular width of the Bauer skates. For reference I am a women’s 9 or 10 reg width depending on shoe brand and I ended up buying this skate in a size 6. Went skating the next day and skated for nearly an hour with ease and no pain or discomfort during or after my skate. WOW I am just blown away by the comfort and ease of use (since I have never skated in hockey skates). I would totally recommend these skates. I like them ... I had a pair of Bauers as a teenager that I loved but outgrew. Now 46, and possibly in the grip of a slight midlife crisis, I decided it was time to get back on the ice with a new pair of skates (the skate hire ones give me blisters!). I paid £5 for the skates to be given an additional sharpening as I wasn't sure that they'd be sharp enough for me straight out of the box and they feel absolutely perfect. Great next day service as well from a UK based company meaning the price you see is what you pay (no nasty surprise when the delivery arrives and you're due £50 in tax and import fees). Highly recommended.

At last I'm done with the horrible rental skates. These have a perfect combination of stability and softness, first time ever I am comfortable in skates and the skates work as I want them to.I just make this strong recommendation: Go to a store to fit them. The size table is what it is, while I used size 13 and 14 rentals because of the width of my feet, these fit me in size 11. Don't know how it works for other sizes. Plus, in the store you get them sharpenned, and the staff is helpful in chosing the sharpness caracteristic which fits your weight, style, etc.

These Bauer X-LP hockey skates are very comfortable, very good quality for low price and wide enough for comfort. These are great beginner hockey skates and would highly recommend! Needed skates for Open Skate and rentals are so uncomfortable. I could wear couple these Bauer skates for couple hours without any problems. Am very happy with my purchase.
I am an absolute beginner at ice skating. These skates are working out well for me. So much better than the rental skates at the local rink. They seem like they will hold up fine for recreational use.
I have a very wide foot, EEE for shoes. I tried the Supreme Fit 3 and CCM, but could not fit, but I was able to fit into a Size 9 regular with with this skate. I got the SuperFeet insole as well. The person in the store said that my feet may hurt a bit the first couple of times as the skate and insole adjust to my foot. Went skating the next day and they did not hurt all. Very light and comfortable skate and about half the cost of the Supreme and CCM skate. If you are looking for a good skate at a reasonable price I would definitely recommend this skate.
Got what I ordered for a great price. Not sharp. Would have liked to see an option to add a fresh sharpening for a few extra bucks. Hard to find somewhere to sharpen them in my neighborhood. Other than dull blades, no complaints here. Great product at a great price.
I'm very pleased with these as a first pair of skates for my adult-sized 12-year-old. Assembly quality is good and there's plenty of interior and tongue padding. The outer shell is plastic all around, but they look cool nonetheless. These skates look and feel much nicer than the entry-level CCMs I nearly bought him from the big box store. Top-notch customer service from Pure Hockey.
I've played hockey my whole life, and I play in the most competitive leagues in the area. When my skates broke, I was going to purchase these. The guy at the store told me not to since they would not survive the duress of the movements a player at my experience level would demand. The guy at the store was right. I almost died at least three times from using these skates. But the price was even more killer than the edge I caught flying face first into the boards.
My last forward skates were the Bauer Flexlite 3.0s. I love(d) them, they felt like putting on slippers but they were a half size too big. I wanted to find a properly sized skate that would make me feel like I never left my Flexlites. These have done a fantastic job, and after 3 games, I am back to feeling like I'm not in new skates.Apparently these skates were not manufactured to be baked (read other Pure Hockey responses), so I'm surprised at how well they feel without baking. The tongue has an incredibly thick padding to reduce lace bite (and plan on replacing the laces). The factory inserts were easy to take out to replace with my own. For the price I'm considering picking up another pair and storing them so that years down the road, I have another seamless ... MoreMy last forward skates were the Bauer Flexlite 3.0s. For the price I'm considering picking up another pair and storing them so that years down the road, I have another seamless transition into 'new' skates.I'm not impressed with the stock laces, but I'm sure most manufacturers expect skaters to have different lace preferences, so if you're a new skater, do yourself a favor and get some wax or semi wax laces before you return these skates... you're going to need them anyways. These stock laces have no grip and will make you feel like the boot itself is too loose. While you're at it consider getting a lace size shorter than 96", it is way too long in my opinion. And the wider the better... that will also help reduce lace bite.Lastly, I am unsure how much of an effect it has had so far, but on my way to the rink I put these under the heater in the front seat. If nothing else, they're warm... Highly recommend.
