I run several times a week and rotate shoes(so not more than twice a week per pair), but the bottom colored layer starts to peel off long before it should and both the heel edges and center of the forefoot wear down quickly. Gone are the days of long-wearing carbon soles.

I was compelled to give a review based on an excellent customer service experience I had with a problem with a different shoe (and I would give the customer service 5 stars, or more if possible), I felt very well taken care of by Brooks and note the company and customer service agent went above and beyond to help me. As for this shoe, I picked it as a replacement to the now-defunct Levitate line as I needed a neutral support shoe with which to replace it. The Glycerin 21 certainly avoids a blister problem I had previously on the last iteration of Levitate#6 (sadly! It's more of a walking than running shoe in this regard, I think it might hamper my speed if using for running, but I use it exclusively for long walks and at work, and it will fit my needs just fine for the season. It also kind of looks like a "clown shoe" due to so much rubber on the bottom/sides - I don't care about this myself, but just to note for those ordering this online. The fit and feel of this shoe is everything I know the Brooks brand to be. Durable materials, lightweight and well made. They are comfortable, snug without being tight, cushioned well from the balls of my feet through the arches to my heels. I feel like I'm almost bouncing when I walk. These are overall very nice shoes, especially in functionality, which is paramount for me. I've worn these at the running track and around my neighborhood and really like the feel.I will say, though, that I don't love the look and design of these. The toe box is pretty wide, and the bottom bubbles out in a way that make my feet look kind of boxy and weird. I typically like a slender shoe or sneaker, and this just isn't that. I have flat feet, prone to plantar fascistic, allergic to microbial treatments in many shoes, and I have old ankle, knee and back injuries.... finding a shoe that does not aggravate any of these conditions is critical. The Glycerin meets my requirements with adequate cushioning, wide toe box and laces that do not slip I prefer a firmer arch so I remove the insole and replace it with another that I prefer.I prefer the darker shoe and lace colors because I find the oyster/cream/white colors look soiled quickly. I walk 3 miles of dirt trails, asphalt roads and city sidewalks daily. A pair of Glycerin last 3 months for me.I highly recommend following the Brooks sizing recommendations. Of those 20, only three were acceptable, and from there I narrowed it down to two: this Brooks Glycerin 20 Wide, and another pair from a different brand from a different website.Basically, this Glycerin 20 checks ALL my boxes.The sole is cushiony. These shoes are very lightweight and breathable—I owned a pair of Brooks a bunch of years ago (that I used almost exclusively for running, not daily casual wear) and I loved those, too.There's a kind-of-thick seam that runs across the top of my foot, where the laces end toward my toes, where the bottom of the tongue meets the upper. There was a day recently when I felt it surprisingly strong, some pressure. But then I haven't felt it since during the next few times I've worn them, so I'm not worried. Loosening the laces helped. Not concerned, just something to watch for. I felt it more just sitting around, and less when I was actually taking steps, so I bet these would be great for running. Sorry I'm not running in these, Brooks. However, I did need to run to a meeting across town the other day, and they felt good.The arch support is good. On a scale of 0% = flat and 100% = waaay too much, then 55% is probably right where I would ideally want it to be in a shoe. These shoes are probably at 51% on that scale.I only just barely made my final decision about 2 weeks ago. So, I have limited experience—you're not getting an "I've worn these for six months and here's my report" review from me here, but I hope someone out there still finds value in this. And it's going very well so far. I recommend you give these a try.You've done it, Brooks. You have created one of the best shoes I've ever worn. Give the designer(s) a raise. Thanks.
The issue I have with all of the Brooks shoes I have ordered in the last two years is the tongue of the shoe. Full disclosure: I'm not a runner, but I am a shoe wearer who wears these Brooks shoes all day long for comfort and stability. This has gone on for so long that I went to see a doctor and got scans only to finally come to the conclusion that it's these Brooks shoes I've been buying/wearing all day. The tongue is especially long in the center and also can slide to the side leaving the corner poking into that part of your ankle. I bought Ghost Max because tongue piece appeared in the ad pic to be a little straighter, lower, less angular than these, but it still causes an aching discomfort when I remove my shoes at end of day just not to the degree that the Glycerins do. I didn't get an Adrenaline version this year because of ugly colors/design. Aside from the tongue piece issue, which sadly is proving significant or I would not have sought a dr and been willing to pay the medical bills, the shoe feels great. It has a similar Ghost Max cushiony sole (without the heel drop feeling that Ghost Max has). Brooks please reduce the size of the tongue pieces! You did before 19 versions and prior, I know you can do it again. If this is a runner enhancing design, can you make a shoe with a removable tongue piece and sell an alternate piece for non-runners that could be attached?

Then Glycerin 20 went on sale at Fleet Feet so bought an additional 3 pairs on line due to better color selection and a 4th pair at the store. NONE of them fit my right foot correctly. Now my right foot has not changed but something with these shoes has. The arch support in the right shoe partially hits my foot arch with the rest of it hits my heal. It is extremely uncomfortable as it feels like I have a large rock in my shoe. It causes my foot to throb and cramp. I have run many miles in lots of different running shoes, I am not particular about a certain brand as long as they are comfortable! I love to run outside - I run for enjoyment, fresh air and relaxation! I can run in almost any running shoe, I have no injuries, and need no special support when I run. I just lace up shoes and take off.These shoes run a bit small in length- I would order a half size up next time. They are definitely more soft and cushioned than I have ever run in before. I even feel taller when I wear them. They have a wide cushiony base that you can see (and feel) when you look down at the shoe. I just lace up shoes and take off.These shoes run a bit small in length- I would order a half size up next time. They are definitely more soft and cushioned than I have ever run in before. I even feel taller when I wear them. They have a wide cushiony base that you can see (and feel) when you look down at the shoe. It’s a little too much cushioning for me, and the shoe base feels wide on impact (the fit isn’t too wide!)- so i would only want to run forward in them- not do any lateral fitness exercises. My favorite thing about these shoes is how incredibly light weight the shoe is- particularly given how much cushioning it feels like it has. The material is light and breathable, and the laces hold well when tied. If you are looking for a light-weight but durable, well-cushioned shoe, Glycerin 21 is the one!
