Cleo loves coming along for bike rides in her bark ranger XL. She is part German shepherd and husky so this was the best size for us. I can also vouch for all the accessories. We have the pet bed, treat pouch, and bark ranger bag. I’ve been impressed by the quality of all the burley products and everything is handling repeated use well. The only improvement I would suggest is adding some sort of shock absorption that the more expensive kid trailers have.

The idea is excellent. The reality is a little challenging. I bought the ranger XL for my new puppy and old golden. The young one is happy to get in the carrier, the older one, not so much.Setup is a little challenging and takes muscle. It's not a simple flip-up and get moving. Some plastic parts broke on the first use, so not super burley.I am using it only for the winter so had to purchase the ski conversion kit separate. It works well on groomed nordic trails but using it in any backcountry terrain is quite a bit of work.Overall I would say it is good, not great, and the price tag is a little steep for what you get.

Great Dog Bike Trailer

I've been looking for a bike trailer for my 50 lb dog for months and finally decided to purchase this one. The size is perfect for her to stand, sit, or lie down. It's very easy to attach/detach from the bike. It pulls very smoothly on various terrains (i.e. paved, small gravel, large gravel). The only complaint I have at this point is the weight of the trailer itself. By the time you add the trailer and your pet(s) you're easily pulling an additional 80+ lbs of weight. Otherwise, Burley did a great job with this product! Highly recommend for anyone who wants to take their pet with them and can't have them run along side the bike. Please just take the time to acclimate your pet to the trailer before taking them for a ride. Great Dog Trailer!
21 June 2022

We have a 20 pound terrier mix that was a rescue. She is super skiddish and using handlebar bags and other bikey carrier products just didn’t work out. We considered the smaller tail wagon from Burley but opted for the more expensive Bark Ranger since it also converts to a stroller mode. Pick up at our local REI store was seamless and the product was not damaged. Out of the box we noticed the usual high end Burley quality that always shines. Assembly was easy even for me. We left the wheels off and left it in the living room, throwing treats and her toys in it on occasion. This helped a ton! Once we were ready for the wheels she associated it with good things. She loved it in stroller mode right off the bat. We kind of blew it when we went for a bike ride at a local trail that is frequented by mountain lions. She always freaks when we walk it but we thought the safety of the trailer would help but nope didn’t happen. Freaked out right away. Subsequent rides around the neighborhood have been fine. I love that the Bark Ranger has easy access, pockets, full mesh sides and front/back, and can stow almost flat. It is pretty big for a smaller dog, but that’s not a bad thing. Plus when she gets older she might like the stroller mode more. Great Burley product!

Great quality
27 July 2023

I previously had a Burley child trailer and I knew the brand is high quality. Same thing with this trailer, which I got in XL. I have a 75 lb lab and wanted something I could use when I ride to the park, to the brewery, or to outdoor parties. This trailer is perfect. Very spacious for my pup, but still fits easily in my garage. Lots of good airflow keeps my pup cool when I ride on hotter days. Definitely go for the do bed as well. This trailer is lightweight but very strong, very easy to hook up to the rear through axle of my Specialized cruiser, and I get positive comments everywhere I go, especially when I let my chocolate lab out of the back and he knows he’s about to have some fun wherever we’re going!

After purchase/delivery, I discovered that the attachment used is made of rubber. After numerous attempts to communicate with the manufacturer, by me and my bike shop to see if there was a more durable alternative, my bike shop noticed that Burley offers a replacement part for said rubber piece. I pressed on, now more suspect that this rubber attachment between my bike and the trailer holding, in my case my precious dog, would not last as they offer replacements. On my 3rd or 4th email to Burley, after not getting clarity on this part's durability, when I raised this issue, I was finally told that "on page 15 of the owners manual, we suggest that this piece be replaced every 3 years". This confirmed my suspicions about their dubious prior and evasive non answers. My bicycles manufacturer's rep also alerted me to this issue. Burley replied that they and other big brand name manufacturers use this method as well. That gave me even less confidence. I have found other, higher weight capacity trailers, for ½ the cost, that do not have an attachment piece requiring replacement as they are made of steel, not rubber, which they know degrades over time. I cannot believe that this is sold this way and there is no alert in big red lettering on page one of the owner's manual. I shudder to think of those kids and dogs being towed around with a degradable/degraded attachment piece and having little to no idea it requires replacement/maintenance. Burley should be making it crystal clear regarding the need to replace this part and not hide from doing so by either burying the point deep in the owners manual or evading the question when asked.

My little guy falls asleep while going for walks.-- Since our little guy has been attacked multiple times by off leash dogs, we will continue to use this post surgery to bring us stress relief in high stress environments. He's definitely comfortable it in and tries to get in it even when we aren't planning to use it.-- As mentioned, we have a whippet and greyhound. We bought the XL so it could fit our greyhound, if needed. It'd be tight for our greyhound for sure so use caution with expectations around the size. It's big but our dig is likely bigger.-- We swapped out the single wheel for the stroller wheels (extra $100) and, with the stroller wheels on, it fits collapsed into our 2021 Outback without taking the wheels off. We also have some room to spare on top of it. The stroller wheels are noisy and not as pleasant to use as the single wheel but it isn't practical to use the single wheel in daily applications like going to the farmers market or other things that are tighter spaces.-- We noticed tipping towards the back when our dog was it in and we weren't holding it. As such, we bough the kickstand... and, the kickstand isn't great. It works but it's difficult to use with a dog in it. You can't just sweep your foot underneath it and get it out. You have to lift up the stroller to do so and bend down to manually get the kickstand out. The design of the kickstand could have definitely been improved.

No durability, don't reccommend

This trailer completely lacks long term durability and falls apart quickly. I've owned my Bark Ranger for one year and almost all of the zippers, and the parking brake have completely failed and are irreparable. Look at any well respected bikepacking bag brand and you'll notice that they use much larger/chunkier zippers. This is for a reason. The small/normal zippers on the Bark ranger just don't hold up to outdoor conditions, especially if you're riding dusty unpaved roads. With the failed zippers I am unable to keep my pup completely enclosed, making the trailer far less safe. As mentioned, the parking brake has also almost completely failed. After having such a positive experience with the Coho XC I am astounded at the poor quality of the Bark Ranger. I am an experienced cyclist and have used all kinds of gear and accessories over many years and countless miles. This trailer is hands down the worst piece of equipment I've ever owned. It seems that Burley invested more time designing upgrade accessories they can sell you, rather than caring to build the trailer out of durable materials. I sadly sold my Coho XC to buy the Bark Ranger, a choice that I now highly regret as it stood the test of time. I would have expected the more expensive Bark Ranger to have at minimum the same level of durability.

We have an adopted whippet and a retired greyhound and bought the XL in hopes it would fit each by themselves. It's cumbersome to take in/out of our vehicle and I definitely haven't found an easy way to do it with one person -- it's awkward but I manage.I'm upset with myself for spending $700 on a stroller PLUS $100 for stroller wheels PLUS $30 for a kickstand. I'm also upset that it tips over given the price range without the kickstand.

Sturdy wheels/floor, wish it came with rain cover
16 October 2022

This trailer is very spacious for my corgis. Despite their short height, they can see out the windows. They didn't seem to get any motion sickness and the zippers seem durable. Some of the seams of the fabric had threads coming out fresh out of the box. I'm hoping it lasts. I wish it came with a rain cover being that it was very pricey. I went with the XL due to the slightly larger dimensions, even though the combined weight of my dogs would've been under 75 lbs. The trailer goes on bumpy terrain, on grass and over hills just fine.
