Love the Driver X for the stiff flex, vibram sole and reduced footprint. This boot is slightly shorter than the Ion, making it the perfect choice for Big Foots like me, who want to reduce toe and heel drag. It’s a bit narrower than the normal width Ion boot, so if you have wider feet choose the Ion or even Ion wide.Unfortunately this boot doesn’t last super long. After 40-50 days, the lacing slowly starts to rip out from the side and the sticking on the tongue and toe cap breaks apart. After 60 days this boot is done. Until that happens, it's an awesome boot!

Don't be afraid of how "stiff" most reviewers say this boot is. The fact of the matter is that there is a big trend right now toward boots that are very soft and very light, which means they often sacrifice quality construction, high rebound materials, and overall support. This combination can lead to boots that look great on the shelf, ride awesome for 10 days and then breakdown fast. Even high-end boots like the Nike Lunarendor, which features adjustable flex inserts in the liner breaks down quickly. The Burton Driver X is one of the only boots I've found that feels sturdy, comfortable, and doesn't breakdown quickly. If you're riding a reverse camber or softer-side double camber, the driver will be too much boot. Highly recommended for those riders who put in more than 20 days a season and send it hard in all conditions.Note: order at least a full size smaller than your sneaker size. The reduction technology on these are incredible. I wear a size 9 skateshoe, used to ride size 8 Nike Lunarendors, and was able to fit comfortably into a 7.5 in the Driver X.

So far so good. I purchased these because by the end of February my last pair of the same boot was falling apart and becoming unrideable in it's second season. I guess 160 days of abuse is too much to ask. I love the responsiveness of this boot, fits like a glove after adding an aftermarket footbed and heat molding the liner. Good grip from the sole and I can drive my Tacoma to and from the hill in my size 8s.

Love the boots. Quick lace system is super convenient and they don’t loosen throughout the day. If you’re looking for support and responsiveness, the boots have them in spades. My only qualm is due to the design of the quick laces, the top portion of the boot doesn’t tighten as much as I would like. The lace system tightens the loop closest to the ankle first and by the time that tension has been wrapped in and out the boot a couple times and reaches the top, there’s not much left. The result is you end up getting a little play up high before your shin gets the boots to respond. The support is still really good, and once that shin hits, the boots respond. Anywho, good luck and happy hunting on the dreadful snowboard boot finding pilgrimage. 4.5/5 final rating
After 15 seasons it was time to retire my last pair of burton drivers. i prefer a stiff boot and after trying on all of burtons current offerings I opted to go for another pair of drivers again. I couldn't be happier with my decision. These boots are comfortable and responsive right out of the box. My only complaint is that I'm not crazy about the lacing system, but I'm sure in time I will get used to it. If you like a stiff, responsive boot look no further. FYI the free shipping takes a pretty long time. I would pay extra to have quicker shipping next time
The boot fit wonderfully and performed how I hoped, for the first two days. Then the lower right speedzone lace jammed internally making the boot very difficult to loosen. I tried to replace the lace but the system is clogged inside somehow. After 2 days with this expensive of a boot this shouldn't happen. Burton's customer service has still not gotten back to me so I'm just going to make a claim and send them in. What an incredible disappointment. I'm sure it's just a defect in that one boot. But now I'm stuck waiting in the middle part of the best snow broke from the initial expense with zero support yet.
Easily the stiffest boot on the market, by a pretty wide margin. They make the Travis Rice boot and Burton's own Ion look like socks in comparison; this is your last stop before you pick up hardboots. If you were disappointed with the softness of last year's boot, you'll be pleasantly surprised. I've ridden the same Driver X's for 7 years (since '07), and aside from modern liners and fabrics, it's essentially the same boot I bought back then.On the other hand, these boots could use a crampon-compatible option. I would also recommend not running the boot without the plastic inserts. The downside to the boots stiffness is the lack of articulation at the ankle. I would also recommend not running the boot without the plastic inserts. The downside to the boots stiffness is the lack of articulation at the ankle. Without the insert, the boot bends rather awkwardly, and the narrow laces bite into the tongue creating a crease, which will wear out the tongue fabric much quicker. The tongue essentially lets the boot's character come out a bit better.
Amazing how comfortable these boots are right out of the box, it’s got a bit more lateral stiffness than I thought- exactly what I wanted. Test run tomorrow.Shipped and to me ridiculously fast- to Maryland in three days!Thank youSnozzelfondu
This is my third pair of driver x's. I went with my same size that I've worn and they feel good, maybe a bit smaller than my old ones but my regular size 10 was right. I knew my old ones were worn out but wow, I'm amazed at how much better the new ones looks and feel, can't wait to ride them this weekend. They are pretty similar to my 16/17 model that I have been riding. These boots are very stiff but comfortable and offer the highest performance for going fast and ripping the whole mountain. These are for advanced-expert level riders who demand a very stiff boot. I figured why fix it if it isn't broken and snagged another pair.I would normally not order boots online but no local shops carry this model of boot and they were on sale on Evo, plus I know my size in ... MoreThis is my third pair of driver x's. On my 2nd pair. First one lasted 8 seasons. Other one is now good for garbage. The front stiches holding the rubberish toe cap are all torned up. This part of the boot takes all the tension once firmly strapped in bindings (torsion and flex). Once broke, the boots looses stiffness, lateral and front flex hold. Poor design. Pretty disappointed… Else, very comfy and stiff. Was my favorite boots for 10 years.
