Love the color and the quality of the boot for sure. The customer service on the other hand is what will make this purchase memorable. Bought these because I didn't like the performance of the Flows that I had previously purchased. Chat Online care turning into Red Carpet service with quick responses and great communication which got me a return in turn making this purchase. THEN visiting the Denver location while in town and had them heat molded along with insole recommendations. Super Happy with the experience.

Fit a bit different that non-SO Photons. A little more snug by my pinky toe (where the cleat is), but so far it seems to work. No getting the hotspot people complained about in previous generations (judging by other reviews/comments, this seems to have been addressed). Also a little more volume above my forefoot than my old photons.Be VERY careful about fit. Boots are the most important part of your setup (imo), and they're even MORE important with Step Ons. I recommend getting educated on proper fit, if you're not already. I ended up with a size above what Burton recommended based on mondopoint — but I also have weird feet.

Also, the attachment (between boot and binding) occurs at your heel and outside your forefoot - this allows you to get deeper into your turns than everbefore.I ride some forward lean so there was a very brief learning curve and technique required to get in/out efficiently but in a few runs I was proficient. Also, there is slightly less flexibility in your ankles but nothing that I would consider to be limiting.Overall 10 out of 10! Now we need a Splitboard Step On setup.

Comparing Soft and Regular Photon Step On
30 October 2022

Since there's been so little info online to compare these against the regular Photons, I got both to try them out. Haven't gotten either of them on the snow yet, but here are some initial things I noticed. The *only* difference I found was with the articulated cuff. The soft version has a neoprene joint between the upper and lower sections on the outsides only (not both sides) making the shell softer flexing. I noticed the flex difference mostly front to back and not as much difference laterally. Not convinced that's a great design choice because the flex point lands right at the top of the Snugger Strap. Seems like it would start to hang up / wear funny very quickly as the boots broke in. The heel backstay was identical between the models (Burton's own website ... MoreSince there's been so little info online to compare these against the regular Photons, I got both to try them out. The heel backstay was identical between the models (Burton's own website shows some photos of the Soft with a shorter backstay support).I was a bit worried the regular Photons would be too stiff but in the end the Soft version seemed too soft for my tastes. The regular seems to have quite a bit of range of stiffness available with the boot Boa and Snugger Strap. Leave the Snugger relatively loose and things flex pretty well, crank it down and everything stiffens up nicely. For someone who doesn't ride Park anymore, the regulars seemed perfect for all-mountain charging. Both versions seem very solid with the new Soft model allowing for a noticeably softer flex profile if that's what you're after.Hope that helps anybody else on the fence between these two models.

First time trying Step-Ons
3 February 2022

I have been snowboarding for almost ten years and have never tried Burton Step Ons before. The main concern I had was that the bindings were going to feel loose and be unresponsive. After testing them out, I realized I was completely wrong. The Burton Photon and the Step On bindings were very stiff and super responsive- just the way I like my set up. The step on's felt very secure and rode like normal pair of boots and bindings. I spend a couple runs doing some aggressive turns trying to put the step ons to the test, but they never budged! It was an awesome feeling being able to roll of the chairlift and just step on and go without ever stopping! I 100% recommend the Burton Step Ons. The Photons were my first experience with Burton Quick Pull, and I really liked them. One downside with the Quick Pull system and the Photons specifically is that there’s a lot going on and when the boot is all the way undone, with wires going everywhere. They make it easy to store the laces after the boot is done up or when you’re ready to put them away, so it’s only a problem if you’re tired/lazy and don’t put the boots away properly.

Never Strapping in again.
23 January 2022

Background, Used to snowboard as a kid n early teens many moons ago. Fast forward to me at 33yo trying to pick up snowboarding again and failing so hard my butt is paying for it, literally. I rented normal shoes last year and was pretty disgusted with myself at how many times I had to unstrap from getting stuck on greens. HELLO STEP ONS! I found myself waiting at the bottom of the hill and at the top of the mountain for my friends to strap in and I never had to sit once to get going. Even after stalling I'd quickly step out, give a lil push and step right back in. It feels no different to me than normal bindings n shoes. The insoles that came with the boots were high quality and didnt need to be replaced with custom ones since it fit so perfectly to my feet ... MoreBackground, Used to snowboard as a kid n early teens many moons ago. Tossed the thermal liner into the oven at 200degrees for 15min and after molding they fit like a glove. Highly recommended shoe!

Stiff, comfy, and easy to setup!
12 March 2023

I love these boots so much! The boas and quick pull setup make tying up an easy and painless task. No fiddling with laces in the cold anymore. The insoles that come with are incredibly well built and also very supportive, plus they dry very fast!!!The boot itself is really stiff which is what I was looking for. They were comfortable the first day I took them out, and are getting more and more comfy every ride. The wide model really helped me have enough room in the front.

Such a great boot
12 June 2023

I've had the Burton Ion step ons for the last few years. While they've been the best fitting boot I've had (5th boot) I felt that the toe could've had a little more room after 6-7 days straight on the slopes.Combine that with also wanting slightly less stiff boots (the Ion's had very little give), I thought I'd try the Photon wides. While I haven't taken them up the mountain yet but have worn them all day at home. Exactly what I wanted - A wider front, stiff but not so stiff and painless/numb-free after a day walking around in them at home.

The best Step On boots of the season
15 March 2021

Burton Photon Step On Boots are definitely fantastic boots to pair with Burton Step On bindings. They bind securely and comfortably with a very minimal learning curve. After riding it for a day, I can confidently choose the Step On over any conventional binding solutions. This binding system is definitely far more convenient without sacrificing any performance. The boots have really nice build construction and seem to have the ideal stiffness to my liking. They hold me in place without having any discomfort. The lining feels nice and snug which helped me enjoy a long day on the mountain without any issue. I also personally like the look and aesthetic of these boots especially among the limited options of Step On boots so far.The rope BOA system in these boots are clearly better than other BOA boots I've ever tried on. This system uses one single BOA coiler for tighten both upper and lower zone of the boots and use another coiler for the ankle hold. I honestly find this to be better than dual zone BOA coilers found in many other Step On boots such as DC Control Boa Step On. The ropes on this system seem to be durable and reliable which may make these boots last quite a bit longer than the competition.I have experienced the two top criticism of the Step On system which are the clicking noise and some hot zone in the boots. The clicking noise happens when I went on very bumpy ride shaking the board and my foot apart. Nevertheless, it doesn't always happen and was easy to ignore in my opinion. After a full day riding, I also felt a very mild hot zone on one of my foot where the boot binds with the side anchor. It was very minor and I no longer noticed it after resting on a ride up the chairlift. There was also an odd rust colored mark on snowboard socks on top of my foot after riding my brand new pair boots. But I suspect this will wash off easily. To sum up, this is the best Step On Snowboard Boots for me in this season. I am completely satisfied. #sweepstakes

This setup changed my snowboarding experience
9 March 2022

For the 1st time I tried the Burton step on boots and bindings on the slope. It was just perfect. Extremely fast and easy stepping in and out. Very responsive combination, better than any bindings with straps I had tried. The boots get locked in the binding very perfectly, as if they are just one unit. And to the Photon boots, they are very stiff but also comfortable. The foam inside shapes to your feet. After about one hour, they feel comfprtable but also holding so tightly that there is no room for your ankle to move loosely.I could really not expect better!
