A classic chypre for those of us born in the era of the classic chypres, back when oakmoss wasn't banned and with patchouli it formed the Bonnie Clyde of perfumery: a take no prisoner, hippy, earthy perfume which was perfect for a trip on a 2CV listening to Indian music or Pink Floyd. Aromatics Elixir is the perfume for gutsy people who deserve better, and get it. A salve to a misogynistic, frustrating environment. The first blast is a trio of oakmoss-patchouli-chamomile and a smooth-something similar to cardamom underneath. Otherworldly and captivating, Aromatics Elixir smells of damp forest soil, earthy patchouli, infestant mosses caressing oak branches, exhilarating herbs, geraniums dripping with morning dew and a fusion of aldehydes and incense coalescing to exude an aroma that is luminous and invigorating, yet impure and fetid. AE is an exquisite and timeless chypre concoction worthy of experiencing at least once in a lifetime. Very strong still, even since the original.

First started using this in my teens when I got my first paycheck. At the time it was one of those fragrances that would elicit a reaction whenever you wore it. The formula has changed over the years as certain ingredients became scarce, but it still elicits those same responses. When you wear it you will quickly realize people either love it or hate it. Not many it's okay with Aromatics Elixer. It also seems to be popular with men. It is considered a chypre-floral fragrance. Has all my favorite notes in it. Patchouli packs the biggest punch for me but the florals are quite lovely as well. Rose, geranium and white jasmine keeps it from being too heavy and adds a nice sweetness. Would highly recommend you test this on you before you purchase it. It's also one of those that smell great on your friend but like cat urine on you. Try before you buy and if you buy be ready to hear how much people you walk by love it or hate it. A word of caution if you work in a enclosed space you may want to refrain from wearing this to work-it is pretty strong and will permeate a space quickly.

Clinique, you have completely changed this scent so you need to change the name. Loyal customers deserve that. Such a shame.

Absolutely gutted………!

Have adored this perfume for years - it was my signature perfume. Sadly, no longer. I asked the staff at the Clinique counter at a large store what had changed, the perfume still seemed the same but it no longer had any 'staying' power. It used to last for hours on your skin and lingered for days on clothes - my wardrobe was always very fragrant ! Now, as soon as it evaporates on your skin, the perfume vanishes completely. I was told that they had removed a critical ingredient ( presumably for ethical reasons ? ) and this was the cause of the problem. I now have to try to find a replacement and no idea where to start. Please do not waste your money on this - I am sad having to write that - even Avon perfume would probably be a better bet.

Ive worn Clinique Aromatics off and on for over 30 years and, until recently, it was my alltime favorite scent. Aromatics delightful, spicy fragrance never failed to bring on the compliments. Perfect strangers would stop to ask what I was wearing But in the last several years, the scent has changed and not for the better. It now smells like someone sprayed an unwashed wig with cheap cologne and hairspray, nothing like the wonderful Aromatics Ive loved for so long Interestingly, the Aromatics lotion and cream still smell great only the Elixir has changed.Trying to find that original scent, I purchased four bottles of Aromatics Elixir over the last two years from different vendors, but they all smelled horrible. I couldve cried.I hate to write this review because what I really want is the original Elixir scent back. But I dont want to see anyone else pouring goodmoneyafterbad in a quest to find the original scent the way I have, because as far as I can tell, Clinique isnt changing it back anytime soon sigh. I will be moving on to a different scent.

Glad I took my chances on this

Aromatics has been around forever and I honestly did not know they still made it. I came across it one day with my young daughter and took my chances and bought the purse size. It brings back good memories of my Mother, Aunt and their friends wearing it. It is an either you love it or hate it fragrance and a little GOES A LONG Way. I do two light sprays onto my clothes by spraying and walking into it and it is perfect. I was concerned it would have that old lady scent but I have received tons of compliments. If sprayed lightly, it is a clean smell and just different from all other fragrances. I have been a Happy fragrance wearer for many years and I like wearing Aromatics for the colder months just to swtich it up. A BIG plus is that Clinique is clean beauty. It's just not the same Aromatics Elixir
20 January 2023

I have worn this perfume since the 1990s. People would often stop me to ask what I was wearing. The scent would last on my clothing or when I left a room in a good way. Then, the company reformulated it. This "new" Aromatics Elixir is awful. It smells cheap. The scent is very unpleasant (maybe it's a good thing that it doesn't last) and I don't receive the compliments that I got with the "original" AE. Apparently I'm not the only one who feels this way because I've read similar negative reviews online. I realize that companies often change their perfume formulas, but this is a drastic change. Please, bring back the old formula. If anyone can suggest a perfume that smells like my signature fragrance, please tell me.

This is a beautiful perfume from Clinique . I used it many years ago ,loved it then and love it now . I believe it is an oil based scent and tend to spray it lightly above my head so that the vapour falls on the hair . This way it will not mark any clothing .It can be used post shower on the skin giving it time to soak into the skin before dressing .I have had numerous comments about this product and have purchased it as a gift for friends . It is reasonably priced and lasts all day . A real favourite of mine .It is easy enough to pop into a handbag ,the bottle is tactile and a lovely shape .Worth a try , you will be hooked on this divine aroma !

I've worn Aromatics for the past 20 years. I've bought countless bottles, lotions, and body wash of this. It's ethereal, earthy, and unique! Sure...it smells slightly different and isn't as long-lasting as it used to be. I think it still has the exact same Aromatics DNA I fell in love with. We can all complain about it and wish for something to "come back", but in this day and age let's just be grateful we still have this wonderful fragrance. I think it would be a travesty if they discontinued it and we had to hunt down every last discontinued bottle. That "I'll have it or no one else will" attitude is exactly what gets perfumes shelved. The vintage amped up the patchouli and the oakmoss (oakmoss is now banned in perfumes by the way) so they had to reformulate to accommodate the new restrictions. This perfume still gets me the same compliments and I still feel like "me" when I wear it. It's still a relatively strong scent and will last for hours. Clinique please continue to do what you do best! Thanks for letting us enjoy this in every incarnation it goes through! (My only "complaint" is that I wish you still made the candles of Aromatics. Heavenly!)

I have worn, as well as my mother, the Aromatics Elixir and think it's wonderful! It stays on all day and into the next day.
