I had just ordered and promptly returned two pairs of boots by better-known boot-makers. The first were just glorified shoes and looked as though they wouldn't last a fortnight. The second (nearly twice the price) were so uncomfortable they seemed not made for human feet. Third time lucky here. The women's size 6 were out of stock but I saw that men's were made in size 6 and – even better – were trimmed with brown instead of pink. (Pink is ok for party frocks, but boots??) They were comfortable first time on, my feet and ankles well supported, good grip, lacing system sturdy, and – although only tested so far in wet grass and the occasional puddle – they look to be genuinely waterproof. At this rock-bottom price it all seems too good to be true!

Bought these 6 months or so ago. Work on a golf course that sells/uses Columbia products so expected solid results. After 4 months, hole appeared where mesh meets the sole. Needless to say, water enters at will. Hole appeared on the other shoe in the same location a short time later. Appears to be a design or mfg flaw but too long since purchase at DSW to return. Guess I'll try another brand.

A great shoe. I am on my fourth pair. The soles wear out quite quickly. I have difficulty finding comfortable, well fitting shoes. These are a home run every time. Unfortunately the lace guide in the middle position has broken. Disappointing.

Light Weight Decent Grip Waterproof but Its too narrow and uncomfortable for long Hikes
29 May 2020

I own the indestructible Columbia Peakfreak XCRSN II XCEL so I though I'd purchase a different model as an addition since I really love my PeakFreaks but I was very disappointed. First off, the boot's Good lookin, fits good but is too narrow at the mid part of the foot. The tongue of the boot is attached to the shoe as a one piece instead of free moving like any other shoe so you can't adjust the tightness by loosing up the laces. It literally constricts your foot like an anaconda and for hikes longer than a few miles it feels really uncomfortable and hurts. The grip is decent, waterproof is good and they are light about 14.5 Oz per boot. The shoe lace hooks are weird and they cut the laces after walking long distances. If they offered a wider shoe this would ... MoreI own the indestructible Columbia Peakfreak XCRSN II XCEL so I though I'd purchase a different model as an addition since I really love my PeakFreaks but I was very disappointed. If they offered a wider shoe this would probably be my 2nd favorite boot in the world but for that reason I'll keep this boot as spare and not a primary hiking boot.

Lighter With Good Support
9 November 2022

I like mid-hi boots for most of my walking as my ankles are a bit weak. These boots definitely provide the support I need. They are a bit lighter weight than other boots tried in the past. They handle almost all of the weather (water) I've run into. They give excellent traction for the price. The laces seem to wear like other boots I've owned, but the uppers seem to be tough and the soles are lasting longer. I'm very pleased with these boots.

Men's Crestwood
9 April 2024

Pulled these out of the box, when I first put them on, they were a little snug. Wore them for about two hours, and I was surprised with how comfortable they became. I may put a fresh insole in them just for some more arch support, but these were very comfortable and light. I really wasn't expecting the shoes to feel that good after such a short time in them, so I'd definitely say that I'd recommend getting a pair and trying them out.

Price was good but comfort was terrible...
5 October 2023

I wear a size 15 and normally ware either Keen or Merrell everyday . This was only the second pair of Columbia Hiking boot that I purchased. By far the worst pair I have ever purchased. Virtually no padding at the bottom so I added insoles. Seams inside the boot rub thru your socks and my feet are sore after wearing all day. I will continue to wear but not for hiking just for short periods. If anything I should have order a wider size to minimize the rubbing

Slipery and Insecure
29 February 2024

I insisted with these boots on some trails, but the results were always totally unsatisfying. It makes me feel unsafe and insecure during the whole trail, even on the sidewalk they are slippery. It can be even risky at some parts, so that I had to test only on easy trails. They slip on dry earth, wet earth, dry stone, wet stone... in sum, everywhere. They're definitely not boots for hiking. I feel so disappointed that would never buy from this brand ever again. I don't even know what to do now, because I spent my money in a product that is a total waste. Maybe I could use it only to go to Church on Sundays.

Waterproof and holds together without falling apart.
5 May 2021

Bought these last May 2020. It is now May 2021. I was on furlough for 4 1/2 months and wore these every day 12 hours a day working around my property. They are now worn out. The tread is still good. The sole did not separate. The laces did not break. The eyelets and hooks did not pull out. The stitching did not break. The waterproofing did not fail. The cushioning in the sole has broken down. The mesh has several holes/failures. The heel loops broke after the first few weeks. This was frustrating as the loops are important and should not be considered "just for looks". The arch / sole bridge area has failed. I would say all of these, with the exception of the heel loop, is normal and expected as I am sure I put more than the max expected life of 500 miles worth of ... MoreBought these last May 2020. I also bought a pair of Redmond boots on the same order. IMHO the Redmond boot is better quality than these. The price, I think, accurately reflects the difference in quality level.Last note: I had to replace the insert with an aftermarket one to compensate for my flat feet. The inserts I used are in the $40 - $50 range. I do not think the insert influences the quality or lifespan of the shoe. I never expect the shoe to conform to my flat feet needs and always expect to need to supplement.

excellent product

I have been wearing Columbia hiking boots of a very similar manner to this for years and have been very happy with my purchases. These have been no exception, they have good grip as I wear them in the winter as weather allows. So yes they have seen some ice and snow. This leads into their next good feature the wind and waterproofing is excellent, again weather dependent and I think I have reasonable expectations for them. I have yet to have wet feet in reasonable situations. I do not wear them out in areas where I expect to see snow a foot deep or if I might have to cross a creek where the whole boot is submerged. The first few days I was actually skeptical if their fit as I ordered a wide and they seemed snugger than I expected but after two days of casual wear ... MoreI have been wearing Columbia hiking boots of a very similar manner to this for years and have been very happy with my purchases. The first few days I was actually skeptical if their fit as I ordered a wide and they seemed snugger than I expected but after two days of casual wear they actually loosened up to a good tight fit. Which is why I said they run a little small up above, but given a little break in time I think they do run true to size. But I also know people who would have sent them back after a few hours of wear for the tightness and corresponding discomfort for various foot ailments. So so.ething a prospective buter might need to consider. Overall a good light duty boot.
