The shoes look amazing! The leather is very stiff when you first put them on. Expect to have blisters in the first month. Once worn in they are very comfortable. They recommend thick socks to stop blistering but that did not work for me. Find what works for you! Also, these are woman’s size Dr Martens so they are more narrow than the unisex ones. Make sure you take measurements correctly. If you have wide feet I recommend the unisex ones.

These are amazing legendary boots. My first martins! I chose between model 1460 and 1490 for a long time. The difference is only in the number of eyes. Well, I thought so. It turned out that when choosing the size, the difference is also noticeable! Almost all Dr. Martens run big, so it's best to take a half size - a size smaller than usual. I should have thought about it. My size is 38.5 and I decided to order 39. It was a big mistake! They are too big for me! I put two insoles in each, put on another sock and still they remain large. I didn't realize it right away, so I won't be able to return it. I wear them as they are. But they don't rub! Important: model 1460 is oversized, but 1490 is oversized even more! Be careful. It's better to wear them at home a little to be sure they fit you. And resize if necessary. Otherwise, the boots are excellent: very beautiful, made of good leather, they look amazing.

Very disappointed!! I ordered these boots on the premise and belief that they were "Made in England" I've wanted DM's since I was a teenager, I'm now 59ys old. Because of the relative high price of this British Icon I've never been in a position to warrant spending such an amount on a pair of boots. Then I watched the Greg Wallace programme about how the boots are made in England!! Just 180,000 pairs a year and exported all over the world. I watched and thought a proper BRITISH!! success I what apart of that.Unfortunately there was absolutely no mention of the fact that this BRITISH icon is also produced in various manufacturing bases around the world and EXPORTED TO TO ENGLAND!! I love these! They are my first pair to wear which are mine! I have always borrowed my cousins.I was told being new that I should expect them to hurt as they would need breaking in, however I have worn them twice now for full day events and had no problems which has been great.I bought a size 6 which is my usual size and they have plenty of room round my feet. I have worn 2 pairs of socks each time though which has possibly helped with not getting blisters. They make them lovely and cosy to wear though.I bought the shoecare kit with them and followed the instructions before my first use. Then applied the Wonderbalm again afterwards.
Bought a month ago and these boots are super comfortable, surprising given I’ve tried several different pairs of Dr Martens, didn’t have to break them in at all as the leather is soft and buttery. Also believe the reviews when they say it runs large - they really do. I’m a USW5, but with DMs I’ve been wearing a size bigger as they are narrow. Though I got a USW6, they were way too big, I returned them and got the USW5 and they fit PERFECTLY. Shoe laces are long so as most reviews say, I’ll probably buy a much shorter length one. Highly recommended, super stylish and perfect for any occasion.
Omg my first pair in years! The nostalgia on opening the box was amazing! The quality is just fabulous and the iconic yellow stitch and tag looked better than I remembered. You just can’t beat it! The fit is true to size and although do need breaking in, I only felt an issue on my left bridge! The design may have slightly changed (for the better) over the years, but am so glad I purchased. I’m in then now waiting for a train, feeling quietly smug as I catch those admiring glances!
My 1st pair of Doc’s back in the late 80s were made in the UK, and they were AWESOME! They fit well, and were Durable and Comfortable straight out of the box. I didn’t have to replace them until the early/mid 00s. I bought a pair of 1460-ish mid-calf lace-ups in Smooth Black, and a pair of Greasy Black zip-sides whose name escapes me at the moment. The zip-sides were UK-made, but the lace-ups were from China, I think, (bought both from DM’s online store) for some reason. I read later that Production was being moved there for the stereotypical reasons. There was an easily-overlook-able difference in Material Quality and Workmanship; the Chinese lace-ups needed more Maintenance than the British zip-sides, as the leather tended to dry out more quickly, and they arrived ... MoreMy 1st pair of Doc’s back in the late 80s were made in the UK, and they were AWESOME! The zip-sides were UK-made, but the lace-ups were from China, I think, (bought both from DM’s online store) for some reason. I read later that Production was being moved there for the stereotypical reasons. There was an easily-overlook-able difference in Material Quality and Workmanship; the Chinese lace-ups needed more Maintenance than the British zip-sides, as the leather tended to dry out more quickly, and they arrived on my doorstep with no insoles, which the Staff at my local Doc Marten’s store immediately comped me a pair when I stopped by to complain (that’s where they shipped from, so I figured I’d go straight to them with my problem). Not a BIG Issue, but worth mentioning - they recently started eating into my heels due to a pair of inconveniently-placed wrinkles that have dried into place. I recently found my tin of Original Formula Wonder Balsam that I bought with my 1st pair of Doc’s (I’ve heard that they’ve changed the formula within the past 10yrs or so, but that may be no more than hearsay), and am in the process of trying to rescue those Smooth Black mid-calf lace-ups, as they are my favorites, and I’m loathe to let them die so easily. The only way that style could be improved is by offering them in Greasy Black. My most recent purchase is a pair of Greasy Black 1460s that are marked as being Made In Thailand.Honestly, I had Issues with them straight out of the box. The Greasy Black finish was closer to Smooth Black, except that they were covered in what I can only describe as “micro-wrinkles” (like the fingerprints on a baby), they felt notably dry to the touch, and the insoles were thin and adhesive-backed (that’s a 1st in my experience), making it much more difficult for me to replace them with the better-quality insole options available (personal habit).Wonder Balsam to the rescue! I got the finish back to the Greasy Black that I love in about 36hrs, but that should NOT be necessary before the 1st Wearing. It took me about 30min to rip out all that adhesive-backed insole, which is about 29min longer than it should’ve taken to remove insoles.Oh, and the included laces are thinner, and some sort of synthetic fiber. Yes, they’re easier to tighten for a snug fit, but they also loosen quickly while being tied. I’ll have to swing by the DM Store downtown to see if they have the old-style laces. Another Minor Issue, but I’ve NEVER had an issue with my Doc’s if they were marked “Made In UK”, but they seem to have moved Production to Asia on a permanent basis…
I have owned Dr Martens boots for over 25 years and my most recent purchase of the 1460 Smooth Leather was a disappointment to be honest. The 'Smooth Leather' is thin and has a finish that looks and feels like plastic, the welt is finished poorly, the inner sole is completely synthetic and the outer soles are softer and lighter weight than my past boots. Is the leather split leather with a synthetic top coat these days? It feels like it.These boots cost £150 and I feel the quality is just not there anymore. Dr Martens, have you maximised profits over quality and now rely on your heritage brand image and bygone reputation to boost sales? It seems like it sadly.I use these boots for work and fear it may be my last purchase from Dr Martens. It seems like it sadly.I use these boots for work and fear it may be my last purchase from Dr Martens. You used to be able to know you were getting a solid, reliable pair of boots that would last a long long time. Not the case anymore.I have some great memories of my Docs over the years but Dr Martens is a high street fashion brand now with a much lower standard of build on their main lines (unless you pay a much higher premium for the 'Made In England' line). It's quite sad. Thanks for the old times guys, but I think I'm done. All best.
I bought the standard leather 1460 boots online, but I have really high arches, and the tongue seam was constantly pushing on the bridge of my foot. I bought them into the Nottingham store and the sales assistant recommended the smooth leather instead. I tried them on and with them being softer and narrower, they fit like a glove. Already the comfiest pair of boots I’ve ever owned. They did a straight swap for me, no issues. The quality of the boot is amazing, and I just know I will be wearing these for the next 20 years. Chuffed!!
This is my first pair of Dr Martens and after reading the reviews of how painful they are I was really nervous to purchase them. So glad I ordered them now because they are gorgeous and had so many complications. So of course you'll get some pain but I'm not going into week 4 of wearing them every day for work and they are starting to shape to my feet. A few tips...Wear two pairs of socks, I have some of the special Dr M ones and a pair of their thicker socks.I put a dressing on the top of each foot where it hurts and that helped a lot or just double up on plasters. I got a tiny blister on my heel but that went and not had one since.Don't tie the laces too tight, on their website it recommended doing it to help the leather mould to your feet but don't!! ... MoreThis is my first pair of Dr Martens and after reading the reviews of how painful they are I was really nervous to purchase them. That's what I did and suffered badly then started wearing them loose and the pain instantly went away across the tops of my feet.In the evening I would stuff my boots with big pairs of socks to fill the boot out.I purchased the wonder balsam and it is ment to soften the leather but you only use it once a month so it is a slow process but worth it in the end.I'm on week 4 now and they feel like I've had them years and don't need any plasters. No pain no gain, lease boots will last a life time and it's really worth.I hope this helps someone :)
