Fine quality! A bit large in the size recommended (42) which is also a size larger than I usually buy except in boots and sneakers. But I am used to them now and I am very sure this size is best: they are loose only at my narrow āquadā heel, and perfect over the rest of the foot and especially the toes, where I have bunions and other problems. The HIGH toe box, and not only its width, is a key factor. I have owned and enjoyed two comparable prs. of Docs (US) before, but these are a thing apart and I am SO glad I took the chance and spent the money. My back is definitely more relaxed, and really my torso and shoulders as well! In a way, these oxfords are ābootsā anyway, so thatās another reason to accept the larger size. They just look so cute āonā, with both skirts and pants/jeans! In effect, I am saying they donāt look cloddy at all, and are in fact elegant. I already knew that Docs are one of only three brands I can wear without orthotics for my absolutely flat feet. These Made in England ones, though, are even more comfortable in that way. They kind of lift my step and energize me. That white stitching is a nice snobby perk, too, lol!

I ordered these in a size 8 US women. With thin socks they were so loose. I tried a thicker sock and they were a tad better. I then tried a Dr Martens classic insole - game changer. I did order a size 7 for comparison but they were too tight and also didnāt look right proportionally on me because they were shorter in length (so those are going back). Iām settling on the size 8, but I absolutely have to wear an insole or my foot will be flopping around. I think this is a universal Dr Martens sizing problem if you have a narrow heel. If they sold a 7.5 itād probably be perfect, but the insole takes them down a 1/2 size for me and the comfort level is astounding. No painful breaking in period. Plus - they look phenomenal. Cool shoe ! More toe room than the vintage Quilon and lengthier as well ! Top quality leather ! More dress casual of a shoe ! Evenly cut leather around ankle & heel(as my vintage made in England Quilon oxblood 1461 gibsons are unevenly cut around the ankle and stitched crooked and lean inward, like the leaning tower of Pisa on the right foot, but life isnāt perfect now is it ? No, itās not, but we can learn from our mistakes ! And Iāll most definitely still where them, because my Gripfast steel cap wing tips are not perfect either, it happens ! Hand-made is hand-made ! Take it or leave it ! Otherwise the oiled Steeds leather is super cool, but fits a bit different and no break-in period is needed ! Strap āem on and bounce away ! Haha ! I dig āem ! I'm of the age that I was into the whole Ska/Mod seen back in the late 70's and the 80's, still am really, and had a few Made in England DM's shoes and boots. Well they have long gone and the versions that I have purchased here in the US just aren't them same. Two years ago while back in England, Christmas 2019, I popped into my local shop in Brighton and picked up some Made in England boots and what a difference in feel and fit. So returning this Christmas I ordered some Made in England 1461's in black and had them shipped to my mother's house. I am very pleased with them, although the leather is much tougher than the leather on my boots purchased 2 years ago. They will take a lot of breaking in too. But the fit and finish in great. Iām a large 11 / small 12 (G width) shoe size and I bought your size 11 online after trying a 1461 black pair (made in england) in your Manchester store. They fitted well but the store didnāt have the colour I wanted in stock, hence I ordered an Ox blood coloured pair online. Once they arrived through the post I tried them on and they fit reasonably okay but not as well as the black examples I tried on initially in your store.Immediately below the laces there is an excess of leather upper material that puckers once the laces are tied, unlike the black pair .Having said all this, Iām still fairly happy with them but a bit disillusioned about the supposed quality of craftsmanship for a pair of hand made shoes of that price.I have numerous pairs of Grensons and a ...Ā MoreIām a large 11 / small 12 (G width) shoe size and I bought your size 11 online after trying a 1461 black pair (made in england) in your Manchester store. Don't waste your time buying the regular Docs - the Made In England ones are the only ones I will buy these days, purely based on quality. They will last you much longer, and are more comfortable. Not like in the old days of course, but these are the best docs you can buy these days. Definitely worth the higher price... word of warning though, I'm usually a size 10.5 / 11 but i'm wearing a size 9 in these. 100% go for the size down, even more maybe, best to try in store if possible.
I have two pair of 1461s that I purchased many years ago. Both pair were made in England and both pair have been the most comfortable and best fitting shoes I own. Sadly I cannot say the same about these. The footbed in these must be E or EE width as they are huge. My old pair has a smaller footbed in comparison. Doubtful I can return these for a refund so they will either get donated or resold online somewhere. Would not recommend these unless you have very wide feet.
I ordered size 13 US, which is the same size as my boots. They were huge. Returned them and ordered size 12. They are a bit to tight. Killing my feet. Trying to break them in.Frustrated I couldn't do an exchange. I had to return the first pair. Waiting for refund. Had to do a separate purchase for the second pair. When ordering that pair I couldn't use the discount code I used for the first pair.Hopefully this new pair will break-in for me. My Doc Boots are the most comfortable shoes I own.
These are my third pair of Dr Martens 1461. These are the ones āMade in Englandā version, which are a few pounds dearer than the other 1461ās.The fit is generally good, but the width of one shoe is tight. The leather uppers needed a good balming to bring them up to a perfect finish. The balm is worthwhile getting as it does protect the upper part of the shoe.I followed the online guide about breaking in the new pair of Docs, it is very helpful and so far accurate as I havenāt had any problems.
I had a pair of these shoes in black when I was attending college ages ago, and thought it was time to treat myself to a new pair. They're not only stylish, but very well constructed. My advice to newly interested folks looking for a pair of Docs would be to go into a store, and try on a pair before purchasing them online. I'm a US size 10, and this translates into size 9 for British footwear. They're stiff at first, and you'll need at least 5 or 6 hours of walking around in them until they loosen & conform to the shape of your feet. One more thing, try and buy the Made in England brand. Yes, they do cost more, but the quality of the leather, soles & workmanship make it all worth it. These shoes should last you for years.
