I initially bought a pair of 1461's which sadly developed tears on the sides within a year. I took the shoes back to where I purchased them in Carnaby St and the team kindly replaced them, but advised me to get the 'Made in London' ones which although more expensive (they did give me a discount) were deemed better quality, more flexible and less likely to tear. I've worn the new ones for a few weeks now and they are lovely, more plaible, smart and very comfortable to wear.

I'm of the age that I was into the whole Ska/Mod seen back in the late 70's and the 80's, still am really, and had a few Made in England DM's shoes and boots. Well they have long gone and the versions that I have purchased here in the US just aren't them same. Two years ago while back in England, Christmas 2019, I popped into my local shop in Brighton and picked up some Made in England boots and what a difference in feel and fit. So returning this Christmas I ordered some Made in England 1461's in black and had them shipped to my mother's house. I am very pleased with them, although the leather is much tougher than the leather on my boots purchased 2 years ago. They will take a lot of breaking in too. But the fit and finish in great. These shoes look really nice. However, the break-in is exceedingly long and uncomfortable. The shoes cut into my heels and skin over the lateral malleoli -- very painful with bleeding -- despite wearing even thick socks. These need to be better made for comfort in mind!!

I’m a large 11 / small 12 (G width) shoe size and I bought your size 11 online after trying a 1461 black pair (made in england) in your Manchester store. They fitted well but the store didn’t have the colour I wanted in stock, hence I ordered an Ox blood coloured pair online. Don't waste your time buying the regular Docs - the Made In England ones are the only ones I will buy these days, purely based on quality. They will last you much longer, and are more comfortable. Not like in the old days of course, but these are the best docs you can buy these days. Definitely worth the higher price... word of warning though, I'm usually a size 10.5 / 11 but i'm wearing a size 9 in these. 100% go for the size down, even more maybe, best to try in store if possible.
Marks over both toe boxes, looks to be heat damage from when the sole was bonded. Also, my pair had a 2 inch grain line in the leather on the left toe box which looked awful and the leather piece should not have been selected for a Made in England premium pair of shoes.Reached out the DM about 3 weeks ago but no response given. Unsure how they passed the quality check. Returned and disappointed.
I adore these shoes! They are handsome AF, and because they were made in the original Dr. Martens factory they are a pair of living history, which makes this working-class descendent's heart sing!It took 3-4 times wearing them for the leather to mold to the contours of my feet, and now that they have I anticipate many years of wear. Long live Dr. Martens Made in England line!
These are my third pair of Dr Martens 1461. These are the ones “Made in England” version, which are a few pounds dearer than the other 1461’s.The fit is generally good, but the width of one shoe is tight.The leather uppers needed a good balming to bring them up to a perfect finish. The balm is worthwhile getting as it does protect the upper part of the shoe.I followed the online guide about breaking in the new pair of Docs, it is very helpful and so far accurate as I haven’t had any problems.
I had a pair of these shoes in black when I was attending college ages ago, and thought it was time to treat myself to a new pair. They're not only stylish, but very well constructed. My advice to newly interested folks looking for a pair of Docs would be to go into a store, and try on a pair before purchasing them online. I'm a US size 10, and this translates into size 9 for British footwear. They're stiff at first, and you'll need at least 5 or 6 hours of walking around in them until they loosen & conform to the shape of your feet. One more thing, try and buy the Made in England brand. Yes, they do cost more, but the quality of the leather, soles & workmanship make it all worth it. These shoes should last you for years.
My Husband loves Dr. Martens. He only has the ones made in Vietnam, but has always wanted the hand made ones from England. So I purchased these for my husband as birthday surprise. And wow was he surprised until he opened them. Both shoes had bubble like defects. When I contacted customer support, they offered an exchange. The ones I got in exchange were the same shoes! When I reported it to customer service they completely ignored what I said and instead of helping me further they offered me a 15% off on my next pair of shoes. I never thought that purchasing $230 made in England 1641 from Dr. Marten would be so embarrassing. I will NOT buy from Dr. Martens again.
